PART ONE
Demented was over and done. It was a show people would be talking about for a long time too. Lots of big returns, big surprised and huge matches where people cemented their spot on the NEW roster. Of course it wasn’t the best of nights for everyone including Tegan Taylor. Tegan had entered into a Silver Briefcase ladder match and ended up being inches from winning only to get knocked off the ladder by someone who wasn’t even in the match. It was a huge disappointment for her and for the fans who seemed to be rallying behind her as she climbed up the ladder. Normally after her match Tegan liked to watch the show after he match but when the ladder match was done all she did was lay on the bench in her locker room, trying to recover from the brutal match.
She still had on her ring gear with an ice bag over her face, which was still sore from landing on it on a number of occasions during the match. Part of her was mad about the loss because she felt like she had it and that Scarlet stole it but also proud of herself that she didn’t give up and headed straight into the match with everything she had. As she laid there, zoned out and replaying the match in her mind to find a way it could of went better, she didn’t notice the door opening up and her dad walking in.
SIMON TAYLOR: Weren’t we suppose to go get drinks when the show ended?
TEGAN TAYLOR: Tegan is dead right now. Please come back later.
SIMON TAYLOR: Dead? I was a bit worried for you but you are as tough as they come, Tee and I knew you’d be able to bounce back from everything that happened in there. That weird fellow who interrupted the match is a dick though.
The comment of calling INKD a dick of course made Tegan smile under her towel and ice. She pulled them off her face and sat up, looking at her dad who was sitting in a folding chair next to her.
TEGAN TAYLOR: My face busted up? Do I look gross?
SIMON TAYLOR: You look fine. It’s a bit red but you will be fine, darling.
TEGAN TAYLOR: They told me to go see the trainer but I didn’t feel like it… Hopefully I don’t get in trouble for that but I just wanted to be left alone for awhile. How was the rest of the show?
SIMON TAYLOR: It was really good. The main event was killer too. You should watch it when you get a chance. I spent most of the time talking to Denise though.
TEGAN TAYLOR: Denise?
SIMON TAYLOR: You know, your friend Blair’s mother.
TEGAN TAYLOR: My friend Blair? I don’t know if she is my friend at all. She’d probably beat me up for the fun of it if she had a chance. I’m glad you made a friend though and had fun. You did have fun, right? It was a fun night.
SIMON TAYLOR: I did. Did you?
She glared at him for a second, unsure if she did have fun or she was too disappointed to appreciate the parts that were fun. After a second though that familiar Tegan smile crept across her face and she nodded a few times.
TEGAN TAYLOR: I did actually. It was a challenge and I think I proved that I can keep up with some of the best NEW has to offer. We will see what people say later but in the end I almost had it and nobody can dispute that. Right? Or am I making my performance sound better than it was? It’s hard to tell when you are in the ring how good you are doing or how good you look like you are doing.
SIMON TAYLOR: You are worrying too much about it. You did fantastic, even Denise said so, and you’ve got a bright future in this company and everyone knows it now.
Her dad always tried to make her feel like she was doing a good job so his words helped but not as much as if they had come from someone else probably. She nodded her head, tossing the towel and ice on the bench next to her. It was time to get up and get over her loss she knew.
TEGAN TAYLOR: You got a thing for this Denise, don’t you?
SIMON TAYLOR: We are going out for drinks but we’ll see…
TEGAN TAYLOR: Ha! I knew it. You old dog.
SIMON TAYLOR: We are just friends right now. Speaking of friends, are you sure you want to be associated with that Nikita girl? She did assault someone during a match she had no place being in. She causes trouble like that and makes enemies they could become your enemies even if you don’t want them to be.
She had no say in what Nikita or Sasha did, they were her good friends though and they had made a sort of stable because of that but in the end they did their thing and Tegan did hers. She had no plans on talking to Nikita about it either but having back-up was always a good bet especially someone like Nikita who was willing to bend the rules more than Tegan was.
TEGAN TAYLOR: I had no idea she was going to do that and that is her style I guess. I know it’s nothing like what I would ever do but she’s my friend, she’s fun to be around and if she wants to cause trouble that is on her. If it does come back to me somehow than I’ll back her up because that’s what friends do. I don’t like it but I’m sure she knows me enough to know I wouldn’t be for that kind of thing.
SIMON TAYLOR: Just be careful who you are around, they may seem like friends but sometimes people will turn on you if it benefits them at the right time.
TEGAN TAYLOR: Nikita isn’t going to turn on me and neither is Sasha. We are besties, pop, and I’m not going to praise her play but I’m not going to give her grief on it either…. Now, didn’t you say something about getting drinks? They were supposed to be to celebrate my debut win but we can just celebrate the debut part.
SIMON TAYLOR: If you don’t want to go…
TEGAN TAYLOR: No. I do. I need to go out and let off some steam probably. Just be prepared if I start to rant about how much I dislike people who interfere in matches they are not a part of, okay?
SIMON TAYLOR: I have no problems with that.
TEGAN TAYLOR: Plus you get to tell me more about Blair’s mom.
Tegan laughed as she saw her dad’s cheeks turn a bit red. She had no idea how much he liked her but he was going to poke fun of him a bit because he would do the same to her. They were all the family they both had so they were super close when it came to talking about things, even relationships.
TEGAN TAYLOR: I need to go change and shower. I probably stink a bit after that ladder match… Plus I think Ricky or someone had greased themselves up with some weird stinky oil or something too. It was kind of gross.
SIMON TAYLOR: Sounds like it. I’ll leave you for a bit then and go wander around for a while. I’ll come back in a half hour?
TEGAN TAYLOR: That works. I’m not going to get too fancy, hotel bar is cool right? I don’t know how much energy I have.
SIMON TAYLOR: You always say that and end up staying out all night. I don’t think you ever run out of energy.
TEGAN TAYLOR: True! We’ll start at the hotel bar though and go from there.
SIMON TAYLOR: Alright. I’ll see you soon.
Her dad walked over and kissed Tegan on top of her head. She smiled as he turned and walked out of the room, leaving her alone once again. She jumped to her feet and walked over to the long mirror hanging on the wall, staring at her own reflection in the mirror. Deep down she was still disappointed but she had another match coming at up Ignite probably, a new challenge and she was determined to overcome it. Jesse had picked her fifth to be drafted to Ignite and there was no way she was going to let him down.
PART TWO
The St. Louis arch was the most famous landmark in the city. So naturually Tegan felt like standing on top of her hotel with the arch in the background was a perfect place to record her promotional video for her match coming up against Jane Crowe. After Demented she was excited to hear she had a one on one match instead of a big group match. She wanted to showcase her abiliites more and felt like the more people in the ring the harder it was to shine. Of course after she found out her opponent was it became a bit scarier.
The camera crew was finished setting up as Tegan turned a bit to avoid the wind blowing her hair around too much. It was a beautiful view of the city and Tegan was excited to get to meet the fans of St. Louis coming up and to speak her mind about what happened at Demented but mostly she had to speak about Jane Crowe. The camera guy signaled they were ready and Tegan turned, put on her biggest smile and was ready to say what she had to say.
TEGAN TAYLOR: So Demented was crazy, huh?
I didn’t win but I am proud of what I did do in that match. I almost had it too. I was just a fingertip away before INKD ran out and put his nose where it didn’t belong. I could vow revenge on him or something but he’ll get what’s coming to him sometime. Karma is a bitch, INKD and it’ll catch up with you. I would of loved to of had that guaranteed title match but I’ll earn a shot at a title some other way. NEW is a big company with lots of opportunities. Demented wasn’t my night but Ignite will be.
And guess what?! My first chance at earning a title match starts at Ignite. The Heartland Championship is without an owner and someone has to fight their way to get it in this tournament Jesse Styles set up. There are tons of big talents in this tournament from Nacho to Gravedigger to my friend Jimmy and of course me! It’ll be a tough tournament to get through but I’m willing to take on whoever they throw at me to earn this championship. I came to NEW to prove I can stand tall with the best in the business and there is no better way to do that then holding a belt, even a new one like the Heartland.
There is one small thing standing in my way though… Actually it’s a huge thing and it goes by the name of Jane Crowe. This guy is straight up Gigantor, guys. He’s huge and weights two and a half times more than I do. He is also a foot and a half taller too. They found the biggest, meanest guy they could and they put him in the ring with the smallest, happiest girl they had to see what would happen. To some it may seem like they want me to get thrown around and beat up but I see it differently. I see it that they think I can take on anyone, no matter their size or demeanor. It’s a test to see what kind of challenges I’m willing to take on and what kind of opponents I can deal with. This guy is the opposite of me physically and in the ring too so it’ll be one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever faced in the ring for sure.
She paused for a second, thinking about the giant man and how badly he could hurt her if she wasn’t fast enough was kind of intimidating. In the ring though she couldn’t think about that because it could cost her the match. No, she had to be ready for everything and be ready to sneak out of whatever moves he’s going to throw at her.
TEGAN TAYLOR: Now honestly when I saw the name of the person I was fighting I was expecting some goth girl. I mean he kind of has that kind of name but then I looked him up on the NEW website and started to find out about him… And that is when I started to worry a bit. You see first off I noticed that he stands at six foot seven inches and weighs nearly three hundred pounds. Now I stand at five foot one and I weight just over a hundred pounds… So I guess I was wrong earlier, this guy is almost three times bigger than me. He’s big, strong and from the sound of it he may be crazy too. Can I beat him? You are darn skippy I can!
He may be big but I’m faster and smaller. I can do things in that ring he has never seen before and I’ll be running circles around him all night. He’s scary but I’m not going to let him get to me. I’m going to get right in his face, even if I need a step stool, and I’m going to let him know that Tegan Taylor won’t be pushed around by anyone no matter how big and scary they are.
But let’s talk about that scariness thing because this guy is straight up horror movie crazy. He’s been to prison, he was in a cult and he has a nickname from Mexico like a dead man would have. In fact he looks like a big redneck from where I’m from but he’s actually from Mexico by way of Chicago. Now that tells me he has probably faced other quick opponents because in Mexico they wrestle in the lucha style so while I’m fast I’m sure he has dealt with speed before. I’m probably a bit quicker though… But we’ll see what he can do and how quick on his feet he is himself. I don’t know why he’s been in hiding in Mexico or even if he was wrestling there but I’ll be ready for anything.
As for the creepy side of Jane, I don’t want to speculate if he did run a cult or murder someone or anything. I don’t care about that really because that has nothing to do with his in ring performance. Maybe he made it up on Wikipedia to scare people? I mean I wouldn’t put it past some people in this business to do something like that. I could go on Wikipedia and say I’m a professional Ninja Warrior champion or that I have a degree in rocket science. Whatever Jane does outside of the ring is his business. I care about what the man does in the ring and how much fight he has in him. I’m small but I have lots of fight in me and I don’t back down. I’ll get in his face and tug on his beard just to get him riled up.
People think I’m too happy or spunky or hyper and I don’t mind it. I go out to that ring and I put everything I have into each performance. If I come up short at least I know I put it all out there. Can Jane say the same thing? Or is he the type who expects to win because he is big and scary? I’ve seen that type before and I’m not impressed by them.
I’m sure some are wondering if I’ll be sneaky and have my Blondes United ladies come out with me or something but I’m not about that. I fight my own fights and you’ll see that at Ignite. You’ll see what Tegan Taylor can do and hopefully… No not hopefully, you WILL see my first victory in New Edge! I’ll see you all again on Ignite.
With that Tegan pulled her hand out of her pocket, put her hands together and blew a whole bunch of glitter into the camera. With a bit of a laugh after that she skipped away and off frame. She hoped it went well and that she didn’t come off weird. It was a big match for her, the beginning of her singles career in NEW and she had a lot on the line. A win would make her a contender for a belt and a loss would put her from a top draft pick to a footnote on the roster or at least in her mind it would. Tegan sat in a chair set out for her and took a breath, waiting for the camera guys to pack up before leaving the roof.
PART THREE
It had been a wild night the night before. Tegan had gone out with Nikita and for some odd reason Nikita tried to get her to match her shot for shot which wasn’t a good idea. Of course though the next morning there was a fan event she had to go to so as her alarm blasted a horrible beeping sound in her ear she slowly got up, a bit grumpy and a lot hung over. Ignite was coming up fast and while she was training hard she also wanted to have some fun before the event but far enough ahead of the event where she had plenty of time to recover. She rolled out of bed, thinking that room service needed to bring her a coffee before she could get ready.
She headed into the bathroom and grabbed her toothbrush, trying to get the odd taste out of her mouth from the night before. She still had on a pink shirt with a glittery pink Supergirl logo on it and a pair of Hello Kitty pajama pants, not the sexiest but she was single and not trying to impress any guys in her hotel room. Which was why when she heard a knocking sound she was a bit confused. Tegan walked over to the door, her toothbrush sticking out of one side of her mouth, and say a tall man wearing a black suit on the other side. Right away she thought about the night before and what she could of done to cause such an official looking man to come to her hotel room. She quickly looked in the mirror, fixing her hair and spitting out her toothpaste before she answered. Before she could open the door though the man knocked one more time but a bit louder.
TEGAN TAYLOR: Hi!
Tegan said in her most chipper voice she could muster. The lights in the hallway seemed extra bright and awful to her though. The man took off his sunglasses and reached into his pocket, pulling out a badge.
BURT JACKSON - FBI: Burt Jackson, FBI. Can I take a moment of your time?
The FBI?! Tegan’s eyes went wide and her confusion grew. She was drunk last night but she didn’t black out or forget something or did she? She didn’t want to question the guy though because he looked way too official and serious.
TEGAN TAYLOR: Uh… Sure? I mean I’ve never met a real FBI man before. You want to come in?
BURT JACKSON - FBI: No. This should only take a minute, ma’am.
TEGAN TAYLOR: Call me Tegan.
BURT JACKSON - FBI: Well Tegan, I’m here because of one of your associates, a man named Jane Crowe.
TEGAN TAYLOR: My opponent on Ignite? That Jane Crowe?
BURT JACKSON - FBI: That’s the one. He recently returned to the United States after being in hiding in Mexico and signed with your company. I don’t know if you know but he was linked as a leader of a cult back in Texas a few years back…
TEGAN TAYLOR: I read that on Wiki! I didn’t mean to sound so excited about that… But yeah, I heard about it. Is it true? I totes thought it was some crazy fake backstory gimmicky thing. Like you know how some wrestlers pretend they are vampires or something weird. One time a promotor asked me to dress like a cheerleader and I totally didn’t want to do that because I’m not a cheerleader anymore and I just wanted to be me, you know? I’m rambling, aren’t I?
She was nervous for some reason, maybe because she was talking to a real federal agent or maybe because he was acting like her opponent was actually a dangerous man. Either way it was a weird situation to be in. Burt stood in front of her without an expression on his face as she rambled about nothing in particular.
BURT JACKSON - FBI: A little bit. He was a suspect to some crimes and we couldn’t link him to anything. I don’t know much about your business but I do know that if we can somehow get him linked to anything we could put him away. You haven’t met him though?
TEGAN TAYLOR: Nope. He’s new to NEW… That is a weird thing to say but he’s new and this is his first match I believe. I haven’t even heard much from him on Twitter or anything. He’s kind of a mystery. I’ll met him in the ring in a few days though.
BURT JACKSON - FBI: You won’t talk to him?
TEGAN TAYLOR: Probably not. I’ll kick him though.
BURT JACKSON - FBI: If you do have a conversation with him before or after I’d like you to let me know. We are trying to link him to crimes he’s committed and we believe he is a very dangerous man. Why are you fighting him? Seems a bit unfair.
TEGAN TAYLOR: I know! I’m totally going to kick his big hair butt!
Tegan did a kick in the air, almost hitting the agent as she laughed a bit. He just shook his head, a bit confused by how to take her. To Tegan though she had the match in the bag because she always had to believe she could win it one way or another. It was true to an outsider thought that
BURT JACKSON - FBI: I meant more you are very small and he’s very large and as I said, extremely dangerous. You need to be careful dealing with a man like Crowe. We aren’t sure what his intentions are or why he came out of hiding. In fact if you could get me into the show we could make sure nothing happens.
TEGAN TAYLOR: I’m not scared of him. We are just having a match, not a Bloodsport event or something.
BURT JACKSON - FBI: Still we would like to have someone on the premises to be safe.
TEGAN TAYLOR: I can ask my boss for a spare ticket… He may think it’s weird but I think he thinks I’m weird already so I guess it won’t be a big deal.
BURT JACKSON - FBI: Thank you, Tegan. Here is my card. Call me if you hear from Crowe or hear anything about him that you think would interest us.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a card, quickly putting it into her hand. She looked down at it and wondered if maybe someone was messing with her. The whole thing seemed suspicious but she was trusting so she hoped it was legit.
TEGAN TAYLOR: You aren’t just some weird fan who wants a free ticket, right?
BURT JACKSON - FBI: I assure you I am not. Thanks for your time, Tegan.
He nodded his head and walked away, leaving Tegan standing in the hallway a bit confused. The night before had been weird and so had the morning, she had no idea what kind of things the day had in store for her. She turned around as she kicked the door closed and headed to the bed.
TEGAN TAYLOR: I can’t wait to tell Nikita and Sasha about this…
After looking at the card for a few more seconds, trying to figure out if it is real or not, she threw it on the nightstand and grabbed her cell phone. She had a new text from Nikita already.
TEXT FROM NIKITA: Do you know where my bra is?
The text made Tegan laugh a bit and made her weird feelings about the FBI and Jane Crowe drift into the back of her mind a little bit. She glanced around the room until she saw Nikita’s bra sticking out of her purse. Maybe there were a few things about the night before she didn’t remember after all. Tegan started to text Nikita back as she thought about having to hit the gym shortly and how awful it was going to be. She had a big match with a big man coming up though and she needed to be ready… For anything.
Demented was over and done. It was a show people would be talking about for a long time too. Lots of big returns, big surprised and huge matches where people cemented their spot on the NEW roster.
