Team Abel Training Facility
Chicago, Illinois
A simple red brick building. That's all it is. Nothing that is really going to stand out or pull your attention away from the street if you were passing by. And at it's current location in Chicago, there is a lot of foot and vehicle traffic that pass by it every day.
On both of the double glass doors "Team Abel Training" is printed in a plain font. Other than that, there is nothing on that building that would tell you that this building houses one of the best Mixed Martial Arts training facilities in the entire country, let alone the world.
This is the kind of name the Abel family has made for themselves. Trainers of champions...yet yielding none that the family can claim as their own...Besides one.
That one has traveled the world wrestling for the last 6 years. That one has finally come home...and that one is standing next to his older brother staring up at that same red brick building with his hands in his jean pockets.
Jimmy Abel: So this is what you spent all your money on?
Robert Abel: Yeah, isn't it beautiful?
The former UFC fighter places his burly arm that is covered in tattoos around his scrawnier yet taller little brother and pulls him closer to his body in a mixture of love for him and pride in his gym. He playfully shakes his brother's head and shoulders with a contagiously gigantic smile on his face.
Jimmy Abel: It's certainly something. I'm just amazed that someone who lost a lot more matches than he won is someone people are lining up to learn from...
The smile on elder Abel's face slowly drains into a look of mock hurt.
Robert Abel: Hey, screw you kid. Last time I checked, I had more than enough skill and talent to whip your scrawny ass from corner to post.
Jimmy Abel: I'd like to see you try. Just make sure you don't break your hip old man.
Robert Abel: "Old man?" Come here you cocky little shit...
Robert tries to get Jimmy in a headlock but the younger brother slides out quickly and backs away with a bit of a skip in his step. Jimmy smirks confidently and wags his right index finger at him. The older Abel points at him with a smirk as he places his free left hand in the front pocket of his grey hooded sweatshirt.
Robert Abel: I'll have you know that 34 isn't an old man's age. And we both know that I'd still be in the octagon whipping all kinds of ass if it wasn't for my damn concussions and headaches. I was in line for a shot at the strap.
Robert smirks at his younger brother as he continues.
Robert Abel: But all of that still won't stop me from laying down a beating of a lifetime on you and messing up that pretty little baby face of yours. We'll see how that new wrestling company of yours would like you with a couple of shiners on your first night.
Jimmy chuckles at the thought.
Jimmy Abel: I didn't realize that owning your own gym would make you so damn delusional. First, how in the world do you think you would even begin to catch me? And secondly...why would you ever want to mess up such a world class face like this? I know you're a little jealous because you sorta look like Shrek...
Robert chuckles and rolls his eyes at that statement.
Jimmy Abel: But sometimes younger siblings end up with all the looks...And talent. And humor. And basically everything else. Basically, they had you first...but then they improved the design when I came along.
Robert Abel: You know, we do have a loading dock on the backside of the building. Maybe we should go back there so we can account for your giant head and ego to get inside of the building.
The brothers laugh but then walk up to each other and give each other a giant hug. Robert pats his brother on the back as they embrace.
Robert Abel: I'm really happy you're back home Jim. I missed you. Hell, we all missed you. It's great having you back.
Jimmy Abel: I missed you all too. You, Mom and Dad, Emma. Everyone. But it was something I needed to do for myself. I needed to prove to myself that I could make it on my own in this world. I thought if I stayed around here, I would just be relying on you all to carry me along. I just needed to see the world through my own eyes and make it on my own.
Robert breaks the hug but keeps his right hand firmly on his brother's shoulder as he responds, staring him in the eyes as he does.
Robert Abel: Listen to me kid, you don't have to explain a damn thing to me. I get it. I'm so proud of you for everything you did and everything you are doing. Now you're back. That's all that matters. I got my little brother back and I couldn't be anymore proud of what you've done. I can't wait to see what's next for you buddy. That new company-
Jimmy Abel: New Edge Wrestling.
Robert smirks at Jimmy as he corrected him on the fly.
Robert Abel: New Edge Wrestling got a great guy in you. They know it. I'm going to be watching your first match. I'm ready to see you prove yourself here in America.
Jimmy Abel: I'll make you proud Robby. I promise you that I'll make you proud of me.
Robert smiles broadly again and puts his forehead against his younger brother's in a show of affection.
Robert Abel: Shit, I'm already proud of you. Go out there and kick some ass for me kid. That's all I really need you to do.
The older Abel brother pulls back and claps Jimmy on the back as they turn back towards the gym.
Robert Abel: Enough of this mushy bull crap...let's get in there and show some of these new recruits how the Abel's train.
Jimmy Abel: Sounds like a plan. I mean, I hope they train a bit better than you did. I'm sure they would like to win once in a while.
Robert Abel: You're on thin ice, kid. Real thin ice.
Jimmy just laughs and holds the door open for his older brother to walk through as the scene fades to black.

International House of Pancakes
St. Louis, Missouri
The family restaurant is packed with a wide range of different customers. College kids, families and older customers fill the establishment. Most of them with a pile of pancakes stacked on their plates and smiles plastered on their syrup covered mouths.
In one of the corner booths of the restaurant sit Bliss Fischer and her boyfriend Jimmy Abel. Abel is wearing just a plain white t-shirt and a pair of jeans, which is a direct contrast to the stunning tan and blue low cut dress that Bliss is wearing. Jimmy has a piece of bacon that he is snacking on as as he looks adoringly towards his girlfriend.
Bliss notices this and bites her lower lip as she smiles back at him. With a shine in her eye, she leans forward and speaks.
Bliss Fischer: Penny for your thoughts Mister Abel...
Jimmy Abel: Oh, these thoughts I'm having aren't proper breakfast subjects. I'll just keep them to myself babe.
Bliss turns a bit red in flattery as she playfully slaps her boyfriend's hand. Jimmy just winks at her and leans back in his seat and outstretches his arms on the back of the booth.
Bliss Fischer: You are a naughty one Jimmy. What exactly am I going to do with you?
Jimmy Abel: Well, taking me out to the breakfast this morning is very nice start. I'm telling you, all this food you keep putting in front of me is going to make me look like a sumo wrestler soon enough.
Bliss Fischer: Well, that just gives us a reason to keep working it all off. Now doesn't it?
Jimmy Abel: You're an evil genius...
Fischer shrugs slightly.
Bliss Fischer: I prefer the term "goddess"...but you can refer to me however you want to I suppose.
Jimmy Abel: I'm particually partial to the term "girlfriend" myself...
Bliss Fischer: Well, I guess I can live with that one too.
Bliss and Abel lean over the booth's table and give each other a sweet kiss on the lips. As the pair sits back down, a little girl walks up to the table holding a small little notepad with a pen. Abel notices her first with a smile.
Jimmy Abel: Hey there. How are you?
The little girl is obviously shy as she looks down at her feet. Bliss and Jimmy share a look before Bliss speaks to her.
Bliss Fischer: Hello. What's your name pretty girl?
The little girl doesn't take her eyes off the floor as she answers.
Little Girl: ....Katie.
Bliss Fischer: Why hello Miss Katie. What can we do for you?
Little Girl Katie: ....Can I....
Katie takes a deep breath to gather her courage and then looks up at Bliss with stars in her eyes.
Little Girl Katie: Can I have an autograph?
The little girl holds her pen and paper up to her hero Bliss Fischer with a look of pure joy on her face. Jimmy can't help but to smile and watch the scene play out in front of him.
Bliss Fischer: Of course. I take it you watch my company on TV huh?
Katie nods as Bliss scratches a little message and her autograph on the pad.
Bliss Fischer: Well that is great. Did you know that he is a wrestler too? He's going to have a match next week! It's his first one here in America! Isn't that cool?
Bliss hands the paper pad and pen back to Katie who looks over at Jimmy. Katie looks at the autograph and runs her fingers over it.
Little Girl Katie: Thank you.
The little girl runs back over to her table where her parents are waiting. The couple waves at them before continuing their breakfast. Bliss looks over and notices Jimmy smiling at her.
Bliss Fischer: What? Do I have something on my face?
Jimmy Abel: No, you look perfect. I just thought that was amazing. That little girl really looked up to you. That's astonishingly cool. That's something that I want for myself.
Bliss Fischer: Oh come on Abel. I saw that line last night to get a picture with you. You had plenty of people come out to meet you last night.
Jimmy Abel: Don't get me wrong. I know I already have my fans. A bunch of people came out last night for me and I am grateful for that of course. I mean, I just want to prove myself enough here that people want to cheer for me. Not just some women who like my pictures or some of those guys from Japan who were in town last night who saw me fight last year.
Bliss Fischer: It's going to happen. You haven't had a lot of exposure here in the states so far. NEW is going to change all of that for you and it's going to happen fast.
Jimmy Abel: I just want to give people someone to really cheer for. Someone who just isn't in it for themselves. Someone who isn't going to take it to Twitter when things don't go their way and point the finger at everyone else. I want to be a man that people can be proud to cheer for. Someone that people can look up to and feel pride knowing that no matter how far I go, I value their cheers. And I respect their boos.
Abel sighs and sits back into the booth, looking out the window to the parking lot that is directly to his right.
Jimmy Abel: This probably sounds silly to you...but I want to hear them chant my name. I want to see people holding a sign dedicated to me up in the air. I want to be eating breakfast and have some kid walk up and look for an autograph. I want all of that for myself...and now that I am in a position to possibly achieve that dream. I'm excited.
Bliss smiles and reaches over the table and takes her boyfriend's hand.
Bliss Fischer: That doesn't sound silly at all. In fact, I want all of that for you. I know it means a lot to you. But all you can do is focus on what is under your control. Go into that ring and do your best. Show them your skills and they will cheer for you. I guarantee it. You showed me some of your matches...You are one of the most talented wrestlers I have ever seen. Just do what we both know what you can do...and let the rest work out for itself. Things happen, that's all they ever do. And I can only see good things happening for you babe.
Abel smiles as he looks down at their interlocked hands on the table. He runs her hand with his thumb before lifting it up and kissing her hand. Abel looks into her eyes.
Jimmy Abel: You really think so?
Bliss Fischer: I've never been more sure of anything in my life. You're going to do amazing. I just know it.
Jimmy Abel: Thank you. I love you.
Bliss Fischer: Of course you do...I'm your biggest fan.
Jimmy chuckles as Bliss takes her hand back and picks up her fork.
Bliss Fischer: Now we better finish this breakfast. You still have a busy day today. Not to mention, you're going to need your energy to take me out dancing tonight.
Jimmy Abel: Yes ma'am.
Abel starts to work on the eggs on his plate as Bliss picks up her toast.
Bliss Fischer: Oh and Jimmy?
He just placed a giant forkful of eggs as she said something so he answers back with a muffled "mmmhmm?"
Bliss Fischer: I love you too.
The pair share a smile before they continue eating. The scene fades to black.
===========
The scene opens in a black room with a single spotlight shining down in the middle. There is nothing in the spotlight but an empty space. From the darkness in the room, Jimmy Abel begins to speak.
Jimmy Abel: For the last few weeks, one singular question has seemed to be on the fans minds when they see me. I have heard a variation of this same question at least a hundred times ever since I appeared on Demented. "Why did you choose New Edge Wrestling Jimmy?"
And each and every time I answered the question the same way. Opportunity. A place to make my mark and make a real impact on a company is right there at my fingertips. You see...there's a spot right there for me. A spot...to make myself known. A real, tangible opportunity-
Jimmy Abel walks into the spotlight and stands there with a confident smile on his face. Abel is wearing a tan checkered suit with a white shirt and red striped tie.
Jimmy Abel: -for my share of the spotlight. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not here to make demands and tell anyone to move over because I've arrived. I'm not that naive or foolish to believe that anyone would do such a thing! No, what I am here to do is prove myself not only to my family and fans...but to each and every other wrestler in the New Edge Wrestling locker room.
I'm grateful to be entered in the tournament to crown the first ever Heartland Champion. And I won't lie that I'm grateful to be facing someone like Nacho as my first opponent in this new company. You see, most people want to overlook someone like Nacho because it's obvious that he wants to take a little bit of a humorous approach to this business.
We all saw his first promo video. I won't lie, I laughed when he was trying to push that donkey manually and then...well, we know what happened with that. Nacho is a natural born entertainer, that has no limits when it comes to trying to entertain his audience. But what I also see in Nacho is a fantastic wrestler forged in the greatness of the "lucha libre" style of professional wrestling.
While I was performing in Mexico, I met many different wrestlers who I had the honor to face in the ring. I learned so much during my time in the lucha libre circuit. To compete in that country, you have to push your own personal limits when it comes to training and when it comes to wrestling. There are no shortcuts. If you don't do the work, it's going to show and it's going to show very fast.
Abel reaches down and unbuttons his suit jacket as he continues to speak.
Jimmy Abel: Nacho, I can see that dedication when I watch your match tape. You and I are going to have an absolutely amazing match at Ignite. I have no doubt about that. Our wrestling styles meshes very well and I know we are going to absolutely steal the show. Win, lose or draw...the fans are going to be talking about you and I for weeks to come after our match up. I'm excited and I am honored to have you as my first official opponent here at New Edge Wrestling.
And to everyone else who has welcomed me with open arms, and those who haven't...I want to say thank you. Jimmy Abel is here to prove to everyone that I deserve a spot in this company. I'm here to win and to prove to each and every one of those NEW fans that Jimmy Abel is exactly what I've claimed to be.
A Fighter. A Wrestler. A Man Who Refuses to Quit. And a Man Who Can Fly.
I'm here to burst through that glass ceiling and to take New Edge Wrestling to greater and higher places than it's ever been before. I'm here to raise the bar and I am here to prove that I belong with the best of the best. The cream of a the crop.
Jimmy runs his fingers through his longer hair as he gathers his thoughts.
Jimmy Abel: It feels great to be home. After wrestling all over the world, to be back in America...to be back in Chicago....feels absolutely amazing. To be entered into the Heartland Championship Tournament is a massive undertaking. It's something I don't take for granted or take lightly. When the next champion is crowned...I want it to be me.
I'm not here to take a backseat just because I'm the new guy. I'm here to show I can run with the big boys and I am going to show that at Ignite as I face Nacho. I'm going out there to show everyone in attendance and each and every wrestler in the locker room what I can do in that ring.
Nacho, let's tear the house down this Tuesday Night. I'm excited to show everyone what the "lucha libre" style of wrestling is all about and there is no other person in New Edge Wrestling I would rather compete with for my first match than you. I'll offer you my hand to shake before and after the match no matter what happens. I know the kind of talent you possess and I am excited to face you. Nothing more to say other than it will be an honor...win or lose.
This week, I'm going to show everyone that the game has changed. And I am going to show everyone that Jimmy Abel is not going to be overlooked or overshadowed. This week, I am going to show everyone that I'm going to have my turn in the spotlight.
Abel looks up at the light with a smile on his face. The camera zooms in until only Jimmy's face fills the screen. Abel looks into the camera with a fire in his eyes and a confident smirk on his face.
Jimmy Abel: This week...I'm going to prove that I'm Abel to Win.
