Show Opener
After the opening video package and traditional pyrotechnics display, the latest edition of Ignite is underway. Plenty of fans hold up their created signs as the cameras pan around the arena, capturing the excited atmosphere inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Soon enough one lone camera concentrates on Jill Matthews and Vince Walters at ringside, focusing on their last-second priorities before they both look at the camera.
Jill Matthews: Welcome ladies and gentleman to another edition of Ignite, coming to you live from Tampa Bay, Florida! We are three weeks away from Justice 5, and a lot of tension is building already after what happened last week! Nocturnal and Seth Iser captured the NEW World Tag Team Championships against Domestik Disturbance and the former champions Kronin and Matt Slater, Davey Dynamo joined up with United, and in the biggest shock of the night, we all found out that Ryan Pugh now has a 25% ownership share in NEW after tricking Jesse Styles into signing a contract that was supposed to remove those powers from Inkt altogether!
Vince Walters: I'm still pissed off about those things, but I guarantee that Jesse Styles is pissed off more than me! But don't worry, because in the Main Event tonight, the Styles Mafia are going to destroy United and Unstable at the same time, along with that fat fuck known as Ryan Pugh!
Jill Matthews: It will be a Stand and Survive Tag Team Match, with Jesse Styles, Cera, Hazard, Al Envy and Johnny Stylez taking on Ryan Pugh, Nocturnal, Scarlet, Kronin and Valora! The only way to win is to eliminate your opponents under Last Man Standing rules!
Before Vince can respond to the description of the Main Event, "Hurt" by Johnny Cash starts to play throughout the Tampa Bay Forum. The crowd boos thunderously as a clearly agitated Jesse Styles storms out onto the stage, not wasting any time as he makes his way to the ring.
Jill Matthews: Well here comes Jesse Styles now, and as you said Vince, he is not pleased at all!
Vince Walters: I hope he fires somebody! I heard that's a great stress reliever!
Tom Davis doesn't even have time to introduce Jesse, who tells Tom to get out of the ring before he quote "kicks his ass". Davis accepts these demands and hurriedly gets out of the ring as Jesse enters, now looking far more annoyed at the reception coming from the fans.
Vince Walters: He's going to burst a blood vessel!
Jesse Styles: Cut my music!
Beginning to handle his anger, Jesse listens to the crowd boo more before he speaks.
Jesse Styles: I guess you people like Ryan Pugh being my partner now, huh?
This statement causes the crowd to cheer loudly, even resulting in a "Ryan Pugh" chant.
Jesse Styles: Well to be honest, I don't give a shit what you people like!
Jill Matthews: I think that's been made pretty clear in the past.
Jesse Styles: Ryan Pugh and Inkt pulled a fast one on me last week, getting the better of me as it were, but if you all think they'll continue to upstage me then you're all fucking stupid!
The crowd boo loudly again, leading to a continuous "Asshole" chant.
Jesse Styles: Now last week, two things were settled between me and Ryan Pugh. At Justice 5, Ryan Pugh will be taking on Hazard for the X-Core Championship in an Insane Iron Man Match...
This announcement causes the crowd to cheer like crazy again, just like the fans in Atlanta did last week.
Jesse Styles: But tonight, there will be a 5-on-5 Elimination Match, where the participants will be eliminated under Last Man Standing rules! And I assure you all that after tonight, Ryan Pugh, Scarlet, Kronin, Valora, Nocturnal ... fuck, everyone who watches that match will never be the same again! The Styles Mafia will be victorious, and all you idiots will accept the fact that we are UNSTOPPABLE!
Jill Matthews: That's a rather arrogant declaration...
Vince Walters: You're just as ignorant as these fans!
Jesse Styles: However, with Justice 5 just around the corner, there is still another matter that needs to be solved. And since I am the majority shareholder of New Edge Wrestling, Ryan Pugh will play no part in this. That means that I will oversee this situation by myself and make it official. So that fat fuck can stay in the back with his buddies, and I will handle this on my own!
Vince Walters: Damn right! Ryan Pugh needs to follow the rules!
Jesse Styles: So with that being said, allow me to introduce to you ... the NEW World Heavyweight Champion, Hunter Valentyne!
"Selfish And Cold" by Rev Theory plays from the speakers shortly before Hunter Valentyne walks out, carrying the NEW World Heavyweight Championship on his shoulder. He scowls at the fans as he walks down to the ring, but he soon ignores them and concentrates on Jesse Styles.
Jill Matthews: Well last week, Hunter failed to win back the NEW World Tag Team Championships with Johnny Stylez. The two were part of a Three Way Tag Team Match inside a Steel Cage, a match that was won by Nocturnal and Seth Iser when Iser sacrificed his body to win the titles.
Vince Walters: He also took Kronin with him, and they broke our announce table! At least my headset is working this time.
Jill Matthews: I wish it wasn't, but I can't have everything. Nonetheless, Hunter also gave Matt Slater the choice to name their match for Justice 5. Maybe that's what this is all about?
Hunter now has a microphone as he tours the ring, looking sharp in his Armani suit that he is wearing for this occasion.
Hunter Valentyne: I can feel your hate and it fuels me. Each time you morons boo me or chant something stupid it means I have done my job. Whether you idiots like it or not and whether the idiots backstage like it or not I am the World Champion. If you do not like it find someone to take it from me. I can promise you that is easier said than done.
This comment elicits a strong, negative response from the crowd, something which Hunter doesn't react to.
Hunter Valentyne: I made it perfectly clear last week that I would continue to compete inside this ring, because that is what a World Heavyweight Champion is supposed to do. However, after listening to Jesse a second time...
Hunter acknowledges Jesse again as he pauses.
Hunter Valentyne: I am still pissed off about it. The World Champion should be on each show to represent this company like it deserves to be repped. I am still not thrilled about having Cera rep my crew. The Styles Mafia was built on the brains of Jesse and the in ring work of Ray and myself. Before Hazard and Johnny jumped aboard we built it from the ground up. Bit Jesse made the match and gave me the night off. That does not mean I cannot come out here and tell you idiots how it is.
Vince Walters: Jesse was right. He needs a week off to relax and unwind. That's not a bad decision.
Hunter Valentyne: But that didn't mean I had to stay away. I could have gone to Las Vegas, I could have gone to New York, I could have gone to Chicago, but at the end of the day, this show would have felt poor and empty without me. I am the World Heavyweight Champion ... and whether you fuck mooks choose to accept it or not ... you need me here.
A "Shut The Fuck Up" chant starts to increase in volume as Hunter pauses, letting them get it out of their system before he continues.
Hunter Valentyne: I do not care who the hell likes it. Matthew has a decision to make and he better get his ass out here. Now Jesse you have business to tend to. Get that fat piece of shit away from the NEW ownership. We do not want a repeat of the destruction of New Edge now do we? I got business with Slater that does not concern you.
Jesse: What do you mean does not concern me? This is my damned company and don’t you forget it you arrogant prick.
Hunter Valentyne: You misunderstand my statement. That was not meant as a show of disrespect but a statement of pure fact. You have business to handle with that fat piece of crap Ryan Pugh. You need to kick his ass like it has never been kicked before. I have my own problem with Slater to deal with. This issue is not about you. It is not about United or The Mafia. It is not about what happened years ago in TEW. It is not about the NEW. Hell this shit is not even about the World Title. It is about beating respect into that English piece of shit. He has looked down his nose at me and others who built this place when Avalanche wore the title that is now around my waist. Now get Pugh the fuck out of ownership and make his bitch ass bleed.
Jesse: I intend on doing just that. You can handle this shit. For once I agree with you this is not about me. Make sure you beat his ass and make the world forget about the steroid issue.
Hunter Valentyne: Let’s be honest Jesse who needs their performance enhanced more than that toolbox?
Jesse takes his leave from the ring as he has other matters of business to attend to. The man walks up the ramp as pissed off as we have ever seen him, but it is not at Hunter. It is at Ryan Pugh. Jesse is focused on giving the fat man the beating of his fucking life, something that is made pretty clear as he walks through the curtain.
Hunter Valentyne: So Slater ... if you're not being a fucking coward and you're in this building right now, then come to this ring so we can...
Before Hunter can finish his sentence, "Long Forgotten Sons" by Rise Against plays throughout the Forum, making the crowd cheer loudly for the entrance of "The Silver Knight". Matt Slater then walks out onto the stage, dressed in a smart white shirt with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows, faded jeans and shoes. He is also carrying the briefcase he retrieved in the Terrordome at Kamikaze, something that he doesn't acknowledge as he walks to the ring, staring coldly at Hunter and Jesse.
Jill Matthews: And here comes the no.1 contender to the World Heavyweight Championship!
Vince Walters: He's no longer one-half of the World Tag Team Champions, and he damn sure won't be the World Champion by the time Justice 5 is over!
Jill Matthews: Matt Slater has been more determined than he has ever been in his entire wrestling career. He wants to put an end to debauchery and injustice, and he wants to help restore New Edge Wrestling to what it was before this war threatened to tear the company apart.
Slater steps into the ring and collects a microphone. All three men now have microphones, a requirement that will help this process run smoothly. The crowd chant "Slater" as his music fades away, a chant that grows bigger with each passing second.
Jill Matthews: Matt Slater seems to be a fan favorite here in Tampa Bay.
Vince Walters: Does that make any sense at all? Jesse's right. These people ARE stupid!
As the crowd die down, Slater raises the microphone to his lips and glares at Hunter.
Matt Slater: I suppose this falsifies your claim that I'm a coward ... although, I doubt these fans in Tampa Bay would believe that, coming from someone like you.
The crowd cheer again, agreeing with Slater's point that he will accept any challenge put forward.
Matt Slater: Now since Jesse is out of the equation ... I guess I can't ask him why he decided to sanction my spot in the Main Event at Justice 5 instead of making me earn it again. So I'm going to allow you to explain, seeing as how you usually have all the answers.
Hunter Valentyne: What you fail to grasp is that this whole issue has not one fucking thing to do with Jesse Styles. It has not one thing to do with the people you hang with or the people I hang with. Hell like I said earlier it doesn’t even have anything to do with this strap. This is about two people who absolutely hate each other like nothing else before or since. Jesse and I have come to an understanding and he has more important things to take care of as do we.
The crowd murmur as Hunter pauses.
Hunter Valentyne: You see this is your stage to show why you are who you have tried to convince the sheep in the back you are. You have yet to convince me. Jesse wanted to take your little Justice match away from you but I am the one who convinced him otherwise. This is about beating your ass at Justice 5 when I should have done it at Justice 3 had you not been a selfish prick. You cost me a lot of money with your greed.
Matt Slater: There you guys go again, bringing money into this...
Hunter Valentyne: Don't interrupt me when I'm talking!
This aggressive snap causes the crowd to boo loudly, a snap that also makes Slater glare at Hunter.
Hunter Valentyne: I am still the World Champion as I will be after Justice. You see I saved your ass bitch. Jesse was ready to void your contract after winning Terrordome but I talked him into seeing things my way so to speak. It makes sense Matt. Sometime Karma is a bitch. You should have faced me at Justice 3, but it shows just how selfish you always have been. Now you will face me at Justice 5 live from Boston. The World Title will be on the line. This is quite frankly the biggest match in the history of this company whether any of the jackasses in the back like it or not. Four years, Matt. Four years and we have never faced one on one.
Instead of getting angry at these comments, Slater merely smirks. The crowd, however, are still booing loudly.
Matt Slater: I'm glad you've put those thoughts into perspective, Hunter, because it would satisfy me more to prove you wrong once ... again.
The crowd roar with approval as Hunter coldly stares at Slater.
Matt Slater: Now instead of beating around the bush, so to speak, let's get this out of the way.
Hunter Valentyne: First, you will hand me that briefcase.
Hunter motions towards the briefcase that he failed to win at Kamikaze. After staring at the blood stains on the surface of the briefcase for a moment, remembering what carnage and havoc he went through inside the Terrordome to get it, Slater hands the briefcase over to Hunter. Unfortunately, he doesn't let go of the handle. With Hunter and Slater holding onto it at the same time, Slater talks into the microphone.
Matt Slater: You know that the paperwork has been signed. The details are iron clad. So whatever changes are made to that contract ... they'll be null and void.
Hunter pulls on the briefcase to get it out of Slater's grasp. Slater, seeing this happen, willingly lets go, causing Hunter to stumble backwards. The crowd laugh as The World Champion re-adjusts his posture and puts the briefcase down beside his leg.
Hunter Valentyne: I think it's time that I made a few extra comments before Slater tells me what match he came up with for our little showdown.
Hunter's words peak Slater's interests, making both nemeses stare at each other.
Hunter Valentyne: To tell you the truth, Slater ... I'm actually glad that you won the Terrordome. I'm glad that you have the chance to challenge me for the World Heavyweight Championship, because now I can prove to the world that I was correct this entire time. I've always been better than you. And at Justice 5 ... I'm going to end you.
The crowd boo maliciously as Hunter lets those words sink in, having said them with abundant confidence.
Hunter Valentyne: But for the longest time I felt honestly like it was fear on your part. Now I know how wrong I was. You are one of the best in the ring that I have ever seen and really nothing to be afraid of from me or anyone else for that matter. It is about how you have looked down your nose at me and felt like I was not even worthy of stepping into the ring with you. I am going to prove just how wrong you are.
Matt Slater: Well if you want to stretch this out, I'll make my own statements.
Hunter lowers the microphone as Slater pauses.
Matt Slater: For three or four years ... whether you want to include 2010 as the first year or not ... we've gone back and forth with accusations, gone back and forth with attacks, gone back and forth with insults, and they haven't proved anything. At Justice 5, there will be an end ... an end to this rivalry that we've never had the chance to finalize until now. This match will prove who truly is the better wrestler and the better man between us, Hunter. I never doubted you as a talent. I know you're capable of getting the job done inside this ring. The only thing I doubted ... was your respectability. You've never really been a respectable guy, Hunter. You've always wanted to do things your way. But if you think I'm just going to forget about everything you've put me through for the past three years ... then you need to come back to reality.
The crowd cheer mildly as Slater pauses.
Matt Slater: Now all of these people here, and everyone watching at home, has come up with their own match type. But to generate suspense, let's cut away all the things that won't prove anything when this match is all said and done.
Vince Walters: What's he talking about?
Matt Slater: You see, Hunter ... it's not going to mean anything if I climb a ladder and retrieve that belt from above the ring. It's not going to mean anything if I put you through a table. It's not going to mean anything if I escape a cage first, if I set you on fire first, if I bury you alive first, if I make you bleed first, if I keep you down for the count of ten ... for the count of twenty ... for the count of thirty ... I could go on and on. There's only one way we can truly say that we defeated the other, Hunter, and that is utilize what we're both good at, what this sport should genuinely be about, what we have spent years crafting our skills and abilities to improve month after month, year after year, skills and abilities that separate legends and icons from mere mortal men.
The crowd applaud this description of Professional Wrestling, a sport that has been tainted with excessive gimmicks over the past couple of decades.
Matt Slater: We're going to lace up our boots ...we're going to walk down that aisle ... and we're going to work through a good old-fashioned wrestling match for the richest prize in this organization. But it's not going to be an ordinary wrestling match. I would prefer things to be that way, but you have a tendency to make things interesting, Hunter. So here's what I came up with.
Hunter raises an eyebrow as Slater pauses, allowing the suspense to build.
Matt Slater: Two Falls ... of Honor.
Jill Matthews: Two Falls of Honor?
Vince Walters: What in the world is that?
Matt Slater: It's real simple Hunter. The first wrestler who scores a successful pin-fall ... AND a successful submission ... will be declared the winner. There is no strict order. You could make me tap out and pin me, or you could pin me first, and to add insult to injury, make me pass out in front of the fans in Boston to retain your title
The crowd elicit a mixed reaction after Slater finishes explaining the match. They seem to like the concept, but they're booing the possibility of Hunter doing those things to Slater at Justice 5.
Matt Slater: But here's what we like to call ... the twist. You see, as much as this will be a wrestling match, where the falls will only count inside the ring ... I know how much you want to make me suffer. I know how much you want to watch me bleed. I know how much you want to torture me in Fenway Park. So here's some additional information that might wet your palette. It's Anything Goes.
Being blood-thirsty, the crowd cheer this announcement. Even Hunter looks surprised by most of the rules being thrown out the window.
Matt Slater: There will be No Disqualifications. There will be No Count-Outs. You can use anything you want to, Hunter, just as long as you score those falls inside the ring.
Hunter Valentyne: You know what, Slater...
Matt Slater: I'm not done.
Slater's interruption sparks more cheers from the crowd.
Matt Slater: There's also going to be no Special Referee ...and no Outside Interference. That means everyone is banned from ringside. No Johnny Stylez, no Jesse Styles, no Barack Obama ... not even Charlie Sheen can get involved.
The crowd chuckle at these names being dropped, but it doesn't take away from the seriousness of the situation.
Hunter Valentyne: That also includes the faggots from United as well.
Matt Slater: Agreed.
Slater nods their banning, not that they're "faggots" too.
Matt Slater: Just like you said earlier on, this has nothing to do with anyone else. This is going to end between the two of us, Hunter, and when the match is all said and done, there will be zero excuses for failing to win. But what you need to keep in mind ... is how much honor you will have when the match is underway. Will you rely on mind games by targeting my friends and relatives before Justice 5 ... will you rely on weapons and brutality once the match is underway, making it easier for you to beat me ... or will you rely on your skills as a wrestler and defeat the version of Matt Slater that you want to beat? You need to beat me when I'm at my absolute best, Hunter. You need to prove to the world that you can defeat me in this match, because if you provide anything less and weasel your way to victory ... then the moment that defines your career will be soiled and tarnished by your pathetic actions.
The crowd cheer loudly after Slater concludes his speech.
Hunter Valentyne: Bitch I have nothing to prove to you. I am the one who did the thing you failed to do, and that is to win this strap in the middle of the ring. I have done it all here in the NEW, and I have not one fucking thing to prove to you. I have everything to prove to myself. For four damned years I have claimed you were not worth a shit and when I kick your ass in Boston I will once again be proven right, just as I was proven right when I won this fucking strap in the first place.
The crowd boo loudly as Hunter glares back at Slater.
Hunter Valentyne: But I want to include one little thing to sweeten the deal. We already know that I have the NEW World Heavyweight Championship on the line. That means I have everything to lose ... and you have everything to gain. So why don't we equal the playing field?
Wanting to hear Hunter out, Slater keeps his microphone at his side.
Hunter Valentyne: In my opinion, I think it's a fucking travesty that you're being inducted into the NEW Hall of Fame. I don't know what idiot verified that, but they obviously weren't paying attention when they came up with the inductees for this year. I think it's an abomination that you'll be amongst the people who helped build this company from the ground up, when you haven't done anything to deserve that monumental accolade. As a matter of fact ... I deserve to be in the Hall of Fame instead of you.
These comments make the crowd boo louder than ever.
Hunter Valentyne: So why don't you put your Hall of Fame spot on the line? Your spot in the Hall of Fame against my World Heavyweight Championship? Can you accept that ... or will you prove me right and back down like a coward?
Slater scowls as Hunter waits for his answer, watching his opponent hang his head in deep thought.
Jill Matthews: Slater's Hall of Fame spot is being put into question here! What will he do?
Vince Walters: I say he accepts it and takes his beating like a man!
With the crowd waiting to hear what Slater says, they watch as Slater gets nose-to-nose with the champion. Hunter continues to glare at Slater as the challenger to his title raises the microphone up to his lips.
Matt Slater: You're on.
The crowd cheer Slater's acceptance, knowing that he will be determined now more than ever to finally defeat Hunter Valentyne in a one-on-one contest.
Matt Slater: And I'll tell you this right now, Hunter. Once Justice 5 is over ... I will be a World Heavyweight Champion Hall of Famer ... and you will be left with nothing.
As Slater drops the microphone onto the canvas, Hunter does the exact same thing. It looks like both men are about to fight, having a stand-off in the middle of the ring. The intensity grows as Hunter flinches, looking as though he is about to make the first strike ... but instead he picks the microphone up again and smirks arrogantly.
Hunter Valentyne: There's no point getting into a physical confrontation with you now, Slater. It will be a waste of my time. I'll see you at Justice.
Without dropping the microphone, Hunter puts the World Title back on his shoulder and collects the briefcase from the canvas before he steadily backs away. The crowd boo loudly as he exits the ring, wanting to see him get his ass kicked by Slater. Slater continues to focus on Hunter as he walks up the aisle towards the stage.
Jill Matthews: I think we have ourselves a confirmed match, Vince! It will be Two Falls of Honor with Anything Goes rules, but not only will Hunter's World Heavyweight Championship be on the line, but Slater's Hall of Fame spot will also be put on the line! I can't wait to see what happens at Justice 5!
Vince Walters: Hunter was right! Slater doesn't deserve to be in the NEW Hall of Fame! In my opinion, Hunter should be in the Hall of Fame, and Slater should be in the Hall of Shame! That would be more accurate.
Jill Matthews: Instead of getting into a debate that will go on until the early hours of the morning, I think we should get on with the show. Our opening match for the evening will be ... wait... wha...
Vince Walters: Why are you stammering? What's ... hey!
Jill and Vince's confusion arises from a hooded figure jumping over the barricade from the crowd and sliding quickly into the ring. With Hunter walking away and with Slater focusing on him, Slater is unaware that someone is waiting for him to turn around. Just as Slater turns, the man lifts him into the air and drops Slater to the matt with the Wrong Turn! Jumping up, Colt pulls off the hoodie and grabs the microphone off the matt.
Jill Matthews: What the hell?
Vince Walters: Holy crap, is that Colt? What the hell is he doing here and why did he just attack Slater?
Holding the microphone in his hand, Colt looks down at Slater and laughs before turning his attention to Hunter who has stopped at the top of the stage and is watching intently what just happened in the ring.
Colt: Are you two girls done boring the crowd yet? The two of you walk around this ring talking like you are entitled to this, or entitled to that. Why, because you won some lame ass match with a bunch of nobodies?
Colt looks down at Slater and kicks the man as Slater rolls in the ring. Shaking his head Colt turns back to Hunter and simply smiles.
Colt: A match that you couldn’t even win?
Hunter slowly begins to raise the microphone but nothing comes out as Hunter tries to talk into it.
Colt: Yeah you had your time on the microphone, now you get to listen to me uninterrupted. Besides you were simply going to tell the world that you beat me in this ring, and you did. But that was a month ago, and when I was less dedicated. Fact is this piece of shit right here is in my spot, and you are holding my title. Either way you look at it Hunter, you are a marked man, whether you lose the title or not.
Tucking the microphone into his pocket, Colt helps Slater to his feet, and hits him with another Wrong Turn. Jumping up, Colt grabs the microphone out of his pocket.
Colt: Enjoy your moment, because I will be coming for my title.
With a subtle wink, Colt pulls the hood over his head and drops the microphone on the matt before slipping out of the ring and back into the crowd.
Jill Matthews: Jesus, Colt just attacked Slater, and now claims he is coming for Hunter and Slater!
Vince Walters: What the hell is going on, I thought Colt was a good guy, but he just took out Slater, and now he is going to take out Hunter?
Jill Matthews: Don’t forget, Slater and Hunter have a huge match coming up, with huge implications, and now Colt is in the way.
Vince Walters: This just got really interesting; I can’t wait to see what Jesse has to say.
Jill Matthews: Forget Jesse, I want to know what Hunter and Slater have to say about what just happened.
With Slater hurt on the canvas and with Hunter watching the departing Colt, the scene changes to a thirty-second commercial, promoting a new show that will be debuting on the Showtime Network.
