Opening
The IGNITE Video and Opening song plays as Ignite hits the airwaves once again on Showtime. As we cut in live we see the NEW Champ Matt Slater already standing in the middle of the ring with the title belt over his right shoulder and a mic in his left hand.
Matt Slater: Good evening, Los Angeles!
The crowd cheer loudly at Slater's greeting, causing him to smile fondly as he adjusts the World Title on his shoulder.
Matt Slater: You know ... quite a number of people predicted I wouldn't be standing in this ring tonight. After two gruelling, brutal weeks, they thought I would be out of commission until Annihilation ... and rightfully so. I've been slammed into the walls of a steel cage, my damaged ankle has been twisted and wrecked, I was put through two flaming tables, I was choked out with a noose, and I've been punished with so many submission holds and hit with so many weapons that I've honestly lost count. The punishment I've sustained after those two weeks has surpassed the punishment I took inside the Terrordome at Kamikaze, but I vowed ... I promised ... that even if I'm injured, I would always be here for you people. And just like I promised, despite being bruised, battered and burned, I am still standing in this ring ... as the NEW World Heavyweight Champion!
The crowd roar with approval and applaud Slater's difficult resolve, having defied the odds that were against him once again.
Matt Slater: Now tonight ... I'm going to be wrestling again, but this time the World Heavyweight Championship won't be defended. Obviously Jesse Styles has a problem with me still being the champion, but not only that, he seems to think that United are on borrowed time. Well I won't hate to tell you this, Jesse ... but myself, and United, are going nowhere.
Once again the crowd pop with cheers, supporting United's motive for a cleaner future.
Matt Slater: You all know by now that Kronin, my tag team partner and one of my best friends, will be my opponent in this ring tonight. Now I'm not in the greatest of conditions, having defended this belt against Hunter Valentyne and Nocturnal respectively in two consecutive weeks, but I told him that I didn't want him to hold anything back. That would be an absolute insult to not just us, but to you people, and all of you deserve to witness a technical wrestling classic in this ring tonight between two men who are considered the greatest technical wrestlers in the world today!
Slater's passionate words result in another strong cheer, anticipating the contest between Slater and Kronin later tonight.
Matt Slater: But Kronin isn't the only one I need to prepare for. You see, in two weeks time, New Edge Wrestling will be gracing the luxurious shores of Cancun, Mexico for Annihilation. And on that night, I am slated to defend this World Heavyweight Championship against the genuine No.1 Contender ... Valora.
Valora's name being mentioned gets a mixed reaction, with the majority of the crowd booing her affiliation with Unstable and her bitter attitude.
Matt Slater: I can see that a large number of you dislike Valora, and that's perfectly acceptable. You're all entitled to your opinion, and to be honest, I think she would approve of your negativity, using it as a fuel for motivation. But I'm not on that side of the fence. I don't hate or dislike Valora. In fact, I have nothing against Valora at all. She is one of the most talented wrestlers in this business today, and she rightfully deserves the chance to be the NEW World Champion. The competitors she has beaten in this ring read like a who's-who, and each of them have garnered so many accomplishments over the years that they can be defined as legends and icons.
Slater pauses, gathering his thoughts as the crowd wait patiently.
Matt Slater: Valora ... I understand how much you want to win this title. You have come so close on so many occasions, but it was always out of your reach. At Annihilation, you will no doubt have the hometown advantage. You will no doubt be more driven and more determined to win this prestigious accolade than you have ever been in your entire life. This championship means just as much to you as it does to me, and at Annihilation, we are going to give everything we have to earn this title.
Slater holds the championship aloft as the crowd cheer, basking in its legendary lineage and important aura.
Matt Slater: I firmly believe that we'll put on one of the best wrestling matches...
Suddenly, Slater is interrupted by "Prayer" by Disturbed playing over the speakers, causing him to face the entrance way. A few moments later, Valora strolls out onto the stage, not wasting any time as she walks towards the ring, scowling at some of the fans that jeer her presence.
Jill Matthews: Well it seems like Valora has a few words to say as well!
Vince Walters: She's talked about being the World Champion for months and months! I can't wait to see the look on her face when she loses that final chance!
Jill Matthews: So you're saying that Slater is going to beat her and retain the gold?
Vince Walters: No. I'm saying that she's going to be beaten up so bad tonight in the Tag Team Gauntlet Match that she won't make it to Annihilation!
Jill Matthews: Do you honestly believe that for one second? If Valora was terminally ill or in a car wreck, she would still go to Annihilation to achieve her dream! There is no stopping this woman from winning that championship!
Vince Walters: Except Matt Slater, sweet tits! And possibly Hazard, if Jesse thinks of putting those two in a match again!
Jill Matthews: You just want to see Hazard tear her limb from limb...
Vince Walters: Am I that predictable?
Valora enters the ring and studies Slater, doing so as her theme music fades away. She then acknowledges the World Heavyweight Championship on his shoulder, a goal that she has been holding on to for over a year. Finally, Valora lifts up her microphone and begins to speak, intently staring into Slater's eyes all the while. Finally, Valora smirks, giving Slater a golf style clap before finally speaking.
Valora: “Oh do you now? You really think you have any fuckin’ clue how bad I want that belt? Then hit me with it ‘professor’ How bad do I want it? What am I really willing to risk for it? How far will I go to get it? Come on. I grew up not that far from here in South Central Los Angeles. So why don’t you tell me. I’m sure they all wanna hear it!”
Slater’s jaw clenches slightly but he waits and stares at Valora, listening to her go on. At her challenge, he simply shakes his head no. Valora walks up and stands toe to toe with him.
Valora: “No, huh? Well maybe you better think about that. Cause in two weeks. You and I are going to fight for that belt. If you lose... well you got a rematch. You got another way back. If I lose... Well, I’m just out. The hell you went through with Hunter and Nocturnal?! Just a warm up because believe me when I say that if you plan on leaving Cancun with that belt... you’re going to have to kill me.”
Valora points to the World Title and nods.
Valora: “2 weeks, Matt. 2 Weeks and that belt is mine. Enjoy your match tonight ‘champ’ I promise you I’ll show you something you’ve never seen from me when we fight.”
The two pause as if they might trade blows but at the last second, Valora drops the mic and leaves the ring, walking to the backstage area, Slater watching her leave almost as if he expected her to attack as well. As she backs up, Valora holds up 2 fingers and mouths the words. “2 weeks.”
Jill Matthews: “Umm did Valora actually show Slater some respect?! She didn’t insult him or try to undercut him. Didn’t attack to try and give herself an advantage... What the hell?”
Vince Walters: “What the hell was that shit? Don’t hold shit back, I wanna see the good stuff now!”
