- Opening Match -
Matt Slater Vs. Seth Iser
Jill Matthews: In the heart of Texas we welcome to you Tension in Texas live from Waco, Texas. I’m Jill Matthews alongside Vince Walters and Vince…this might be the only time we agree tonight but we have one hell of a show for you here tonight.
Vince Walters: You bet your tits Jill. We have Ricky Cassels, one of the brightest shining stars in our industry, challenging the large redneck bitch in our World Champion Ryan Pugh.
Jill Matthews: We also have a T.A. Title match hotly contested between Nocturnal and Hunter. Hunter has goaded Nocturnal about straight wrestling but knowing the emotions between the two you can expect more brawling than wrists locks.
Vince Walters: and the match I’m probably looking forward to the most…we have a last person standing triangle match for the X-Core championship between three of the most barbaric stars in our industry.
Jill Matthews: But right now…let’s kick it off with a grudge match that’s been brewing between these two stars for years and they finally meet up one on one for just the second time.
Tom Davis: The following contest is the opening match for Tension in Texas and it’s scheduled for one fall! Introducing first…from Manchester, England…weighing in tonight at 227 pounds…the silver knight…Matt Slater!
The crowd cheer loudly as "Hero (Instrumental Version)" by Skillet begins to play. Blue and white strobe lights flash around the arena, introducing the arrival of Matt Slater. The Silver Knight walks out from behind the curtain, wearing his customary wrestling gear and a white hooded top. Slater scans the crowd from the stage before he noticeably exhales, embarking on a brisk walk to the ring as he acknowledges and slaps hands with the fans next to the aisle.
Slater reaches the ringside area and uses the stairs to ascend onto the apron. Looking around momentarily, Slater mounts the turnbuckle adjacent to the stairs and rests his left foot on the top rope. With a brief bow, Slater lowers his hood and gazes around the arena, soaking in the numerous reactions from the crowd. Upon listening to their calls, Slater hops down into the ring and strolls to the opposite corner of the ring, whereby he mounts the turnbuckle and periodically raises his arms. The crowd continue to cheer him as he steps down from the turnbuckle, taking off his hooded top and throwing it to the outside.
Jill Matthews: Matt Slater, the ultimate professional in professional wrestling and there’s a reason for that. A noble man who is true to his word while mastering a multitude of styles of wrestling highlighted by his brilliant technical excellence at this point in the game…it’s really easy to understand why he’s considered one of the game’s greats.
Vince Walters: But it looks like there’s a little more aggression brewing in there…a little more tension ever since someone that in a way he’s always been compared to…has entered his life in a different fashion.
Jill Matthews: Don’t get me started on that snake already.
Vince Walters: He’s entering the ring now.
Jill Matthews: Fair warning…I will do my best to be professional but on a personal level…I detest this man and his conduct that’s about to enter the ring.
Tom Davis: and the opponent…from Morgantown, West Virginia…weighing in tonight at 250 pounds…Seth Iser!
‘I DESERVE YOUR RESPECT!’
The lights dim down as the music begins to play. Soon enough, Seth Iser slowly walks through the curtain with that familiar scowl on his face. He absorbs the reaction he gets from the crowd as he slowly walks down to the ring. He then rolls underneath the bottom rope and performs a crucifix pose in the center of the ring which brings the lights back on. He then slinks to the corner in a seated position to await the bell.
Vince Walters: One half of the tag team champions and representing the Styles Mafia.
Jill Matthews: I’d normally rant about it but listen to the fans already.
As soon as Iser takes off his ring jacket…a very loud and profane ‘FUCK YOU ISER’ chant deep in the heart of Texas rattles through the stadium here in Waco. Iser, already in a relatively volatile mood even by his standards, has exited the ring and is shouting at some of the fans in the front row before he pulls out of his tights a U.T. logo and does the hook’em horns salute in front of the Baylor crowd and the audience grows even louder with disdain toward the Morgantown Native before he throws the orange into the crowd…and the U.T. logo goes flying back into the ring with a huge roar of approval. Slater then punts the U.T. logo out of the ring and to the ramp to an even bigger reaction of approval and Iser just scowls at the man before sliding into the ring.
Jill Matthews: These fans are firmly behind Slater and firmly against Iser.
Vince Walters: These ingrate fans! That Texas logo cost a fortune for a sticker in this horrific state!
The bell rings and there’s an aggressive lock up by the two men. The stronger Iser takes a couple of steps forward to showcase his power advantage. Slater, the quicker of the two, ends up using his speed and goes behind Iser and floats back around with a headlock and just does what he can to keep the leverage on that one headlock. Iser drops to one knee for a second before getting back up and he’s countering that with a top wrist lock…something rarely seen from him before Slater just uses his free hand to grab the top rope, back flip out of the situation and then arm drag the bigger man down and after that Iser doesn’t hastily get back into…opting instead to take it slow to prevent a momentum gain.
Vince Walters: There’s the athleticism of the Silver Knight in full spring right there.
Jill Matthews: I’m kind of surprised though that Iser is straight wrestling…it’s a tactic we rarely see from him and I’m surprised because he’s pretty good at chain wrestling based off of his amateur wrestling background. Just I don’t think that’s enough against a technical wrestler of Slater’s caliber.
Vince Walter: But it’s also a smart move by Iser that he didn’t rush in. A more inexperienced guy would rush in and probably get another arm drag or three for his troubles…but not a veteran like Iser.
Slater’s gaining some confidence as Iser’s putting his hand up for the old knuckle lock and after a brief moment of stalling…Slater goes in and the two end up going with the old knuckle lock with Iser using his power to get a brief advantage including using his leg to help bend Slater’s body back and it looks like he’s trying to get him to use his neck to bridge out but as soon as Slater gets to the ground he uses his feet to break the hold before getting to his feet and as soon as Iser steps in, Slater drop toeholds Iser to the ground and floats over with a front headlock and Iser’s slapping his foot on the mat in a little bit of frustration.
Vince Walters: I hate admitting this…but Slater might be one of the very few guys who can match Iser’s mental wits in the ring. Iser’s considered one of the smartest men in wrestling…and Slater’s right up there as well.
Jill Matthews: The last time Iser was tested like that in terms of mental wits was with Hazard and that’s under a different style…and it’s been a while since Slater’s been in there with a man who also has those same mental wits. I’d expect to see more things you normally wouldn’t see between the two.
Iser ends up after a moment spins his weight and crosses up the legs of Slater for a moment just so he can get to the hammerlock he wanted but the hammerlock was a little too deep with Iser doing the European styled with the head on his back for more pressure and Slater counters that by switching back into the front face lock and this time Iser spins out and has his own front face lock with a slightly bigger base due to his amateur wrestling background. Slater however spins out of it and there’s an arm lock that follows with the elbow right at the point of Iser’s own elbow.
Jill Matthews: This is the European style of wrestling. It’s a very methodical, grind your opponent out style. Slater’s born from England and Iser spent significant time in England at a certain other company.
Vince Walters: There aren’t many wrestlers who have the English style of wrestling in their arsenals…but these two well-traveled former World Champions have them.
Iser uses his height advantage to get back to his feet before going back to the old top wrist lock and this time using his leg for leverage on the back of Slater’s legs just to try to get him arched over but Slater uses his flexibility in his lower body to get out of the predicament and they’re now dead even with the wrist lock before Slater goes back to the drop toehold to take the larger man down and before he can swoop down for the hammerlock, Iser rolls out of the ring to a loud chorus of boos and kicks the steps in anger.
Jill Matthews: Iser’s losing his temper. We might want to step out of here.
Vince Walters: Come on Iser…keep your cool.
Iser’s getting an earful from the fans in the front row who begin the dreaded ‘PUSSY’ chant directed at him from the fans in Waco and he mouths off at the fans right away giving one the finger and audibly yelling ‘Fuck you too’. That moment though is enough to get Slater running and then when Iser turns around he gets a baseball slide dropkick to the mouth as Slater exits the ring and retrieves the stunned Iser by tossing him into the ring.
Vince Walters: Cheap shot!
Jill Matthews: It was not. He saw an opening and took advantage.
Slater re-enters the ring and Iser’s staggered and there’s that side headlock again. Iser shouted ‘FUCK’ loudly in frustration before he tries to belly to back suplex Slater out of the hold but Slater lands on his feet by going up and over and back to that headlock again he goes. This time…Iser tries something different. He goes up top like he had before with the top wristlock before taking a step forward and adjusting to a front headlock and just drops the point of his elbow right on the neck to stun Slater before decking him with a big right hand to a chorus of boos from the crowd and as soon as Slater goes upstairs to protect his head and neck, Iser goes downstairs with a dropkick right to the shin and Slater’s clutching at that joint.
Jill Matthews: Not the most sportsmanlike move…but it’s clever and effective.
Vince Walters: Iser’s one of the few wrestlers that knows you can go around the world before coming back to a body part you want to go after and set it up…and he did just that. He knows Slater’s neck is weak but it looks like he wants to slow the faster man down.
Iser sees that Slater is hurting at both his neck and his knee but he just slowly goes over and grabs the left leg that he dropkicked and starts stretching on the hamstring muscle by pulling on the foot for a brief second before glancing at the audience that’s booing loudly before he drops an elbow right on the knee joint methodically just once before rising while still having hold of that joint with his one hand and methodically drops that elbow a second time on that knee joint.
Vince Walters: A methodical assault. No wasted motion but he knows what he wants to do when.
Jill Matthews: The man certainly has a brain.
Iser then takes the next step in the assault by dragging Slater toward the corner before he slides out of the ring still having a hold of Slater’s left foot before he makes one big drag and the ref is chastising him from doing anything illegal so he just rams Slater’s left knee into the ring post and as Slater sits upward from the impact, Iser punches Slater in the mouth, kicks him in the left knee and then grabs Matt’s left foot and rams his knee into the ring post again. When the ref barks at Iser to get back in the ring and wrestle…all he gets is a middle finger salute before Iser rams Slater’s knee into the ring post a third time.
Jill Matthews: Iser’s taking some liberties with the rules here.
Vince Walters: He’s from the Mafia and he deserves leeway. They plead that in court so you should be able to plead that to officials.
Iser finally takes that moment to roll into the ring before continuing the assault on the left leg of Slater by placing his foot on the bottom rope. After a brief hesitation, Iser is stepping on that foot and uses the rope and the foot to elevate himself upwards and drops a knee drop on the left knee of Slater and Matt slides away from the situation smartly while trying to get up as best he can. When Iser gets near, Slater launches back with a big chop and the crowd woos in approval once…and then a second chop and Iser is stung and rocking back so Slater tries to explode but doesn’t quite have the speed he would have and Iser catches him coming in and there’s the release belly to belly suplex and as soon as Iser poses he poses relatively arrogantly as the audience is booing.
Jill Matthews: Slater’s continuing to fight but Iser still has that pop in his suplex at his age.
Vince Walters: Thirty-three years old and look what he’s doing. He’s put together a masterful game plan.
Jill Matthews: He couldn’t out wrestle Slater but that one change in tactic and the whole match has changed.
Iser goes back on the assault slowly as Slater pulls himself back up and one kick to the back of the leg and Slater flips over and lands on his stomach after that hard kick. After a scowl and Slater tries to get back to his feet but Iser again goes right back to that boot to that knee joint and again Slater goes down but when Slater gets up for a third time, the crowd trying to will Slater on…he fires back up with a back elbow and then another stinging chop that gets the crowd to woo. Then a quick low kick to Iser’s bad leg to get the big man reeling again but when Slater goes for the clothesline…Iser ducks and there’s the waistlock and the release german suplex by Iser.
Vince Walters: Another violent suplex by Seth Iser.
Slater had fortunately flipped over and landed on his stomach rather than the back of his neck on the suplex because Iser put a little too much force on it but Seth just methodically takes his time over and grabs that ankle and then goes to applythe figure four leg lock. There is agony on Slater’s face as Iser’s cranking up the pressure on the hold with his own leg strength but Slater is trying to adjust his body weight to get Iser over on his stomach. Slater goes one way and Iser’s fighting it but Slater then quickly spins in the other direction to get Iser in the Indian Deathlock but Iser’s right at the ropes and he grabs on and the ref unties the legs as Iser’s barking at the ref to hurry up with breaking it up.
Vince Walters: Come on ref! Do your job!
Jill Matthews: Oh for God’s sake…
The ref ends up untangling the mess as Iser pulls himself up to his feet and Slater’s shaking his leg to get feeling in it. Slater’s rise up is on the slow side as is Iser as he’s grunting in discomfort. As Slater finally gets to his feet he eats a left jab from Iser and then a second one and then a third one before Iser goes for the discus clothesline but Slater ducks the discus clothesline…gets behind Iser and then drops the bigger man with a reverse DDT on the canvas and the crowd is roaring in approval knowing this is a turning point. Both men are down as Iser’s growling in pain and Slater’s got total discomfort on his face on the ground.
Jill Matthews: Slater had Iser scouted knowing he likes going for that combination. One veteran knowing another’s tendencies and now the tide of the match has turned again.
Vince Walters: Dammit Seth. Come on.
Iser rolls over toward the ropes to pull himself up to use minimum effort as Slater’s sitting up getting a breath of air before pulling himself up through pure will. Iser’s to his feet first barely and cocks his fist before going to throw a right hand but Slater blocks it and Slater comes back with a forearm shot to the cranium and then a huge knife edged chop that reels the big man. A second right hand and then another chop and Iser’s back in the corner. Slater comes in and using a burst of adrenaline despite the grimace on his face he monkey flips Iser and Iser splats on the mat.
Jill Matthews: Slater’s throwing everything he can throw right now against the depraved Seth Iser.
Vince Walters: That’s slanderous woman.
Iser starts to pull himself up but Slater keeps on the physical assault quickening the pace on the bigger man with a couple more chops before a quick kick to the stomach follows and there’s a snap suplex and Iser’s trying to pull himself up, reeling from the suplex throwing a desperate wild hand but Slater again ducks it, another chop follows and the crowd woos in approval before irish whipping the bigger man and then Slater returns the favor from earlier and there’s that release belly to belly suplex by Slater to the roar of the audience!
Jill Matthews: Payback is a bitch.
Vince Walters: That’s thievery!
As Iser pulls himself up to his knees and Slater comes in…Iser just goes with a thumb to the eye to shut the momentum Matt’s been getting down and then gives Slater a vicious lariat. After that clothesline with both men down you can see Iser have a sadistic smirk coming across his face and he’s shouting verbal abuse to Slater who is using every bit of his pride to pull himself up and Iser’s grabbed Slater by his ankle and continues the bad mouth before Slater uses his good leg and enziguri’s Iser in the back of the head hard enough that it echos through everywhere and Iser looks out of it on his feet before wobbling face first hard on the mat. Slater goes for a quick cover after that hellacious kick.
ONE!
TWO!
THR---Iser kicks out!
Vince Walters: That was almost it. Thank God Iser’s such a tough customer…
Slater continues firing up knowing the advantage is his and it looks like he’s going for a different way to go for the victory and it looks like he’s going for the STF. He has the first portion applied but Iser’s using his hands to prevent Slater from clasping his hands together as best he can while nudging his way toward the ropes. Finally after a fight, the crowd roars in approval when Slater can finally get the grip across but Iser grabs the bottom rope quickly after sliding in that direction without having to deal with the torture of the move and Slater breaks the hold and just waits for Iser to get to his feet.
Jill Matthews: Slater looks like he’s going to try to dig for something to end it all.
Vince Walters: I think he wants the Shockwave.
Seth gets to his feet and there’s a look of desperation knowing the match isn’t going his way as Slater soon gets him on his shoulders for the Shockwave. Slater’s left knee is noticibly shaking having to carry Iser’s weight on top of Slater’s weight and that hesitation prevents Slater from executing right away. Iser squirms out, low kicks Slater in the back of the leg and then pushes the silver knight so he’s laboring running and as soon as he bounces back from the ropes there’s the Pillar of Truth slam on the mat! Iser makes the cover.
ONE!
TWO!
THR---Slater kicks out!
Jill Matthews: What a display of heart by Slater.
Vince Walters: Why couldn’t he just stay down?
Jill Matthews: The pride of a warrior keeps him going.
Iser has this scowl over his face waiting for Slater to get to his feet almost like he’s waiting to go for the kill. After Slater limps to his feet Iser ends up putting him on his shoulder and the crowd gasps knowing this could be the end because he’s going for that black magic. Slater’s squirming for all his worth and gets behind Iser…and tiger suplexes Iser to the mat to the approval and relief of the audience but his leg is too damaged to bridge the way he wanted to.
Jill Matthews: Phew…that was a close call.
Vince Walters: That could’ve been bad for Matt and he knows it.
Slater rubs his neck and stretches out his neck knowing how much of a close call that was before he starts to walk toward Iser and starts to hook his legs up ready to put him in that Texas Cloverleaf. Iser is squirming and fighting as hard as he can desperately not wanting to be in that hold before he finally kicks Slater back as hard as he can in full force before both men rise and Iser kicks Slater in the shin to stun him and then he spikes Slater with the Deprivation DDT in the center of the ring as hard as he can and floats over for a cover as quick as he can.
ONE!
TWO!
THREE---Slater kicks out!
Jill Matthews: Wow!
Vince Walters: That was all heart.
The crowd roars in approval as Iser has this angry look on his face before slapping the mat in frustration while shouting ‘SHIT! SHIT! MOTHERFUCKER!’ in plain frustration that he couldn’t put Slater away with that knowing he desperately needs to beat Slater. He shoves the ref and throws three fingers, losing complete composure and the ref gives him two to tell him all he got was a two count. Slater moves his hands on the mat knowing he still has feeling in them before he pulls himself out before you hear Iser ‘That was three! That was three dammit!’ half yelling and half pleading that he wanted that three count but as soon as he turns around Slater is up and explode quickly with the Raining Shadows and Iser crumbles to the mat! Slater winces knowing the pain it put on his knee and his neck for his own fall before he covers Iser.
ONE!
TWO!
THREE---NO! Iser puts his foot on the bottom rope!
Jill Matthews: Slater is unfortunate that Iser ended up falling near the ropes.
Vince Walters: No, I think Iser just made sure as best he can he was near the ropes for the fall so he can put his feet on the ropes because there was a good chance that might’ve been it for him.
Slater now shows a bit of frustration being unable to put his adversary away and seems tentative to call for the Shockwave knowing what happened last time. Knowing this…he’s going back for that Texas Cloverleaf but instead of kicking his way out…Iser desperately rakes the face of Slater to temporary blind him for that moment before Iser pulls himself up and as soon as Slater instinctively charges…Iser catches him and there’s the Stun Gun on that throat!
Jill Matthews: Oh God…that’s vicious.
Vince Walters: Slater’s throat and knee appendages can’t take much more punishment from Doctor Iser as he dissects both.
Iser senses the end is near and grabs Slater’s foot and after an evil snarl and a chorus of boos from the audience…he goes for a move that hasn’t been seen in years…the dreaded spinning toe hold! Everytime Iser spins it puts a little more torque on both the foot and knee joints and the ref is in position to see if Slater’s going to throw in the towel. After a couple more rotations…Slater uses the momentum Iser creates for his own move and puts on a small package!
ONE!
TWO!
THREE---ISER REVERSES THE PACKAGE!
ONE!
TWO!
Iser HOOKS HIS FEET ON THE ROPES!
THREE!
DING DING DING!
Tom Davis: The winner of the match…Seth Iser!
Jill Matthews: Oh COME ON!
Vince Walters: That’s absolutely brilliant.
Jill Matthews: That cheating son of a bitch.
Iser rolls out of the ring fatigued in front of the announce table and raises his arm in victory before nearly falling back down in exhaustion knowing he got the victory he wanted but the audience is screaming and booing in absolute disgust. Slater mouths something darkly in the ring as he gets to his knees realizing what just happened as Iser starts to retreat toward the ramp.
Vince Walters: How could these people hate this result!? He won! He said he would!
Jill Matthews: He won…but it wasn’t the most…respectful way to win the match.
Iser has disappeared from sight as Slater pulls himself up, the frustration and disappointment on his face as his tough year continues but the audience gives him a loud applause and a very loud ‘Slater’ chant out of respect for the man. Slater acknowledges the chant by raising his arm before pulling himself up to the turnbuckle, fatigued and soaks in the very warm reception out of pure respect he’s getting.
Vince Walters: How can they cheer this man? He lost!
Jill Matthews: They’re cheering this man because he lived up to his word…
Vince Walters: Wait…a minute.
Jill Matthews: No.
As soon as Slater gets off from the turnbuckle…he is met with a thunderous crack from a steel chair shot by a returning Seth Iser…and instead of the brief moment of juvilation he had when he got the victory…it looks like he’s infuriated…almost distraught at the turn of events that just happened. We see that the chair is dented vilely after that one loud crack and Iser just scowls down at Slater who is now trying to do his best to pull himself up but a trinkle of blood is coming down his forehead and the trinkles are growing in a few spots as it goes down into his eyes and down his nose.
Jill Matthews: What a lousy piece of garbage that man is for that post match assault. You won the damn match…can’t you let a man live in peace?
Vince Walters: It looks like he isn’t through yet.
Iser just tosses the chair out of the ring…the rage getting the best of him and after a moment he realizes after that chair shot…Slater’s not getting up quickly but with one last final burst of strength and will he can muster he’s pulling himself up by the ropes but as soon as he does Iser puts Slater on his shoulders and glares out into the crowd coldly as they’re booing relentlessly before he leaps up into the air an spikes Slater with that version of his tombstone piledriver. For the second time in many weeks that gong like sound when Iser spikes Slater is heard but it’s a little louder because he put a little more force into it. The kids that attend the show look away after the spiked piledriver and Iser just looks down at the motionless Slater after the move…with no emotion in his eyes anymore.
Jill Matthews: No…good God…this was absolutely revolting…
Vince Walters: I hate to say it…but even I think Iser might’ve gone too far this time.
Jill Matthews: Even YOU think that? He just deliberately attempted to end the man’s career there and the son of a bitch might’ve succeeded. What a vile, disgusted piece of shit that man Seth Iser is…and I hope everyone in the locker room that isn’t for eVo or this violence comes after this man for what he’s done to Matt Slater physically and psychologically.
Vince Walters: This is a very scary situation…this is only the first match on the card…and we need a stretcher…now.
Jill Matthews: This isn’t a good omen.
Iser rolls out of the ring…from the less squimish fans he’s getting very loud hatred, middle fingers, and death threats and Iser’s not even responding to them as he looks back at the carnage he just created. He just backs up the ring and sneers at the ring not giving any emotion at all before he ducks back into the curtain as there are a couple kids shown in the audience in tears because of what just happened and another female turning her head not wanting to see any more of this situation.
Jill Matthews: Here come the EMTs…and the stretcher…and this is a very serious situation.
Vince Walters: I disdain Slater personally but…not even he deserves that one. Nobody deserves to have a promising careerand a hall of fame career taken away from them prematurely.
Jill Matthews: and dammit…if Iser wasn’t close to the ropes with either the Deathlock or the Raining Shadows…he was a beat man and deep down I know he knows that! The man was damned lucky to escape with the victory and then when Slater was taking the loss with grace he attacks him like it wasn’t enough! It’s like he knew another match it wouldn’t end with him in victory! It’s disgusting!
The EMTs have entered the ring and they check to see how responsive Slater is. The neck collar is the first thing they apply before they gently move him on the back board and as a precaution, they put on a brace for his left knee that Iser assaulted during the match. Matt is then placed on the actual stretcher and wheeled out as the audience just looks on hoping that Slater can give them any positive sign…but the grimness sets in when he doesn’t even raise his arm and there’s this stunned silence that Iser had unfortunately lived up to his word.
Vince Walters: We will do our best to update you on Slater…either later on tonight or on Ignite…but wow…
Jill Matthews: I’m revolted at that pariah Seth Iser and I’m revolted that the Mafia is proud at what this man just accomplished as well.
Vince Walters: Don’t taint the Mafia’s name!
Jill Matthews: To hell with their name! We have a man going straight to the hospital thanks to one of the members of that Mafia and I think Jesse is just fine because it’s going to give him even more money. It’s disgusting!
