Jeremiah Vastrix stood by his window in his office in the Sears Tower. He sipped at some tea as he waited for his sparring partner for the night to arrive.
He had gotten a text message not long before to state that his opponent had left his hotel, but that his actual arrival would be a surprise.
Much like the match would be one surprise after another. It isn't like NEW has the clout currently to evacuate the building. So it'll be just another day as a match destructively goes through the building. It's surprising that the elevators were really going to be shut down for the match instead of just "off limits".
And so, as Jeremiah waited for his warm up fight for Ignite, he sipped at a nice tea instead of the normal spirits. He figured full sobriety would be a grand idea.
He hadn't seen much activity yet from his opponents to be in this Battle for Chicago. Still, it wasn't going to an easy match with all the surprises that could be involved in the tower as well as from his opponents.
The motion of a reflection off of a black glossy surface is the only warning Jeremiah gets to hit the deck.
Armor piercing bullets shatter the glass window seconds before a person in the ebon black armor of the Solar Guard swings into the office. The armor bears the markings of Commander Silverus Faust.
Jeremiah rolls backwards to his feet, keeping his distance as his opponent replaces the gun into the holster on the right thigh. He has his helmet in place, concealing his face, and making him seem the faceless killer that the Shocktrooper was designed to be.
That is, with the exception being the insignia that says who they are by rank, and there was only one Commander.
Silverus strikes out at Jeremiah with an elbow strike, but Jeremiah dodges it. He grabs Silverus, sends him face first into the wall, and then brings him to the floor with a Russian Legsweep.
Jeremiah is up quickly, but so is Silverus.
Vastrix: "You forget the door?"
Silverus doesn't respond, but grabs Jeremiah by the lapels. He throws himself backwards to fling Jeremiah in a back roll throw to send Jeremiah into the door hard enough to knock it off of its hinges.
Jeremiah is slower to get up, but smiles.
Vastrix: "Very funny how you remembered the door."
Silverus lunges at Jeremiah, but is caught. Jeremiah grunts as he hits a hip toss with the extra weight of the Shocktrooper armor.
Silverus sits right up, but is flattened when Jeremiah catches him in the face plate with a side kick.
Jeremiah smiles to himself. Trained soldier and easily handled by him. Of course there will be more than one wrestler to deal with, but nothing beyond his-
Is Silverus drawing his gun again?
Fuck!
Jeremiah jumps up and rounds the corner into another part of the office space as Silverus draws his side arm and opens fire.
Jeremiah leans against the holed wall panting. He hears Silverus getting up.
Vastrix: "I don't think that bullets was a part of the deal, Commander Faust!"
He hears nothing in response. Jeremiah listens to the wall for the vibration of the heavy foot steps of the Shocktrooper.
He nearly shits himself when a bullet flies by his ear through the wall instead.
Vastrix: "You mother fucker!"
Jeremiah grabs the bottle of water from the water cooler nearby, flips it so that the neck faces up, uses the bottle to charge through the wall, and smash into Silverus.
Jeremiah takes the gun, throws it out of the window, and mounts Silverus to lay into him with lefts and rights. He stops when Silverus lays still on the floor.
Jeremiah looks at his hands with a grunt. His knuckles are torn open from battering the armor of the mercenary under him.
Vastrix: "You just had to take it to the extreme. Didn't you?"
Silverus moves, looking at Jeremiah through the cracked face plate, and holds out his left palm to him.
A circle on the palm flickers to life, glowing brighter and brighter.
Vastrix: "What the fuck is this? Oh shit-"
A beam of energy from the palm strikes Jeremiah in the chest, sending him backwards through the wall, and into one of his extra offices. He hits the desk in the room, rolling over it, and landing on the floor.
Vastrix: "Ouch. Fucking ouch."
The wall explodes inward as Silverus bursts through the hole made by Jeremiah's flying body. He looks around the office, his vision seemingly affected by the broken face plate. Jeremiah considers for a moment the why he doesn't take the helmet off, but decides the why is not important.
Jeremiah jumps up from behind the desk, ripping the top off of a computer printer. He throws the lid at Silverus to distract him. It gives him the second he needs to rip the ink cartridges out of the printer and smash them against the face plate of Silverus to splatter the ink all over.
Jeremiah grabs the blinded Silverus as if for a bodyslam, turning him over quickly, and dropping down to piledriver him onto his head.
Vastrix: "You think this is fucking helpful? Huh? Speak, you son of a bitch!"
Silverus answers by grabbing Jeremiah by the arm with his right hand.
Jeremiah let's out a scream of pain as electricity rips through his body.
When Silverus releases Jeremiah, he rolls away quickly, slamming into the wall, and twitching violently from the attack.
Silverus stands up, holding his hand over his leg until a compartment opens up to reveal a combat knife. He draws it with a hand while using his other to try to clear his face plate so he can better see Jeremiah.
Jeremiah grits his teeth in pain. This isn't the kind of training that he signed up for. This isn't even training. This is someone trying to kill him.
Jeremiah staggers to his feet, diving back through the hole into his own office when Silverus stabs at him, and stabs into the wall.
Jeremiah gets up, grabs his monitor, and smashes a display case on his wall where the name sake of the company sits. A Warhammer that's flat on one side and a spike on the other.
He hears Silverus smashing the wall to get his combat knife out of the wall. Jeremiah picks the warhammer up, grinning in delight that he didn't get a prop like most executives do.
He waits for Silverus to come in through the wall, and dives at him with the warhammer. He intends to knock Silverus out, but the spiked side rips through the armor and into the heart of the man.
The combat knife hits the floor and Jeremiah lands on top of Silverus.
Jeremiah sits up, groaning as he rips the warhammer out of the mercenary's chest.
Vastrix: "You stupid mother fucker. I guess this readies me for surprises that could be found during the Battle for Chicago match. I guess?"
In the silence following the chaos of the fight, Jeremiah hears a door open and close. He hefts the warhammer with a low growl.
Vastrix: "You better be someone important, mother fucker, or you quickly find yourself dead!"
A man in the dress uniform of the Solar Guard and a duffle bag over his shoulder walks into the room. He looks at the scene before him in shock. Jeremiah frowns at the sight of the man.
Vastrix: "Commander Silverus Faust?"
Silverus salutes.
Faust: "That I am, sir. Who is that in my armor?"
Vastrix: "This dead fuck tried to kill me. I thought he was you!"
Faust: "Let's find out then. Shall we?"
Silverus reaches down to hits the buttons to unlatch the helmet when beeping noises begin. Lights begin to flash on the left side of the armor as if there were a screen just under the surface.
Faust: "We won't be finding out today. This armor is rigged to explode."
Vastrix: "How big-"
Faust: "Your whole office. Hold on!"
Silverus picks the dead man up, rushes to the window, and hurls him out. He dives over Jeremiah's desk.
Faust: "Get down!"
The corpse falls outwards a good distance away before exploding. Dozens of windows on several floors shatter from the shockwave of the blast.
Silverus rises and helps Jeremiah to his feet. He chuckles as he surveys the damage done to both office and Jeremiah.
Faust: "I'm going to say that you've probably had enough of a work out today."
Vastrix: "Right. I think a drink sounds grand while the police are on their way."
Faust: "I like it. So, any of your opponents really stand out? Think any of them would have called a hit?"
Vastrix: "My opponents this week are wrestlers, Commander. None of them would have done this. I would say that this is the work of someone who wants to make some inroads into seizing control of the CEO position. Or dad..."
Faust: "I think if your dad did it that it would have worked. And that it would have been a bit more destructive."
Jeremiah just shrugs.
Vastrix: "Well? Find out who stole your armor and how they managed to bypass the biological security protocols and you'll find out who did this. I'm seeing a rather large bonus if you can find out and help me nail whomever did this to the wall by their nutsack."
Faust: "I don't need extra money, but a favor for a favor sounds much better."
Vastrix: "Done. Let's get that drink."
