The Dragon’s Flame Chapter 2
So this was it. This was to be my rise to greatness. This was me getting my first shot at being the best damn wrestler in the world. It all has to start somewhere right? We can’t all wake up on day and be signed to a six figure salary and main eventing pay per views. Even though some of the roster think they are better than their skill set lets on we all have a humble beginning. A point in our life when we decided we wanted to be a professional wrestler.
Come on, we all have those stories? Even a Hawaiian high flyer like me has a back story, skeletons in our closets. No pun intended.
Well let me take us back to my beginnings and then take it from there.
I’ve come a long way to be where I am now. I had started off in some piss poor city in Hawaii. My mother was a Hawaiian native and my father was of Japanese descent who worked for one of the local mine companies. When I was a young kid, my doctors told my folks I had a problem, whatever the hell that means. Just because I like to hit other kids I’m trouble. It’s not as if there’s a lot else to do around here. I can remember this one time, my cousin and I were in the backyard one Thanks Giving, and I dared him to jump off the roof onto a trampoline. Like it was my fault he went to hospital with a broken leg.
It wasn’t until High School that I discovered wrestling. But those assholes wouldn’t let me compete. Those arrogant pigs thought that because I was small for my age that I would hurt myself or more importantly make them look silly. Thinking all I should do is just hold the camera so they would look cool. But to be honest it wasn’t like I saw on television, but I still got in trouble. I once popped a guy’s shoulder out. And there was this time I was pissed off with this guy who had got in my face so I choked him with a headlock until he passed out.
But it’s not like you can find a job wrestling anywhere these days. I was out of juvie when I heard about this wrestling school on the main island where they teach you the stuff you see on television. So I got on a boat and signed up. A lot of the guys there were pissed off ‘cos of me being a small guy in a giant’s game.
One day this dude showed up at the school, he worked for a local wrestling promotion, he liked what he saw in me, and why wouldn’t he? I’m great. He said that he’d got the perfect gimmick for me. So I got a contract to wrestle for them.
There’s nothing better in life than the sound of a folding chair smacking into someone’s head. I’ve done whatever it takes to get the win as I don’t care how the job gets done as long as it gets done; when I fly around the squared circle it a quite cool feeling.
But this was my last night there. This was to be my swan song. Osiris and I faced each other one last time before I left for the big times; before I left for the fun that was New Edge Wrestling.
Osiris stood in the ring with the trainee, “So you think because you’ve passed your basics in the ring that you deserve a shot at the big times on the Mainland?” He was facing Kaupena Yoon aka the masked wrestler, the Dragon. They were standing in a wrestling ring at some show for hSw in Manu.
This was Kaupena’s last match for this promotion as he had been signed to the big time. New Edge Wrestling was a company on the rise once again. It was like a phoenix rising from the ashes.
Kaupena couldn't believe that Osiris had changed the stipulation of their match at the last minute. He stood in the ring with the referee clapping the cuffs to his wrists, annoyed all the more because he just knew the reasoning behind the switch in stip. As soon as Osiris stepped foot through the ropes, Kaupena went for him, wasting no time in kicking him.
Soon however, Kaupena found himself face planted into the mat, his arms beginning to ache from being in bondage at the small of his back. Osiris bent over him and with a snarl changed the stipulation once again, declaring the match to now be an 'I Quit match'. Osiris went to wailing on the floored Hawaiian born wrestler, beating him with the whip in his hand, and repeatedly shoving the microphone into Kaupena's face.
"You think because you’re leaving that I’ll take it easy on you? Say it, do you give up now?"
Kaupena panted, and growled behind his mask.
"No!"
Osiris pummelled the Dragon more and dragged him to one corner, propping him into the turnbuckle.
"Why should you get a chance before me?" Osiris shouted, tearing Kaupena's t-shirt completely off. Kaupena sank to the mat, the bits of his ripped t-shirt hanging limply around his wrists, hung up on the cuffs. Kaupena tried to cover himself.
Moments later the whole match had spiralled out of control. The rest of locker room had all took up for opposite sides. The match ended with Osiris walking back up the ramp, as the referee freed Kaupena from his bondage.
Kaupena was left in the ring, rubbing at his wrists, as he watched the referee stride back up the ramp. This was his last day here; he didn’t have to take any of Osiris’s shit any more. He was now moving onto the big time. New Edge Wrestling had approached him with a contract to elevate him into what they described as the big times.
With a shake of his head, Kaupena ducked out of the ring and took himself backstage, now more confused than ever. He plopped down onto the first thing he saw that she could use as a makeshift seat, just an overturned crate. He ran a hand across his mask and shook his head, catching his breath.
He knew why Osiris had done what he had done, though he was perhaps the only one. Osiris was one of those guys that on paper should have the big promotions in America all over him but they’d come for the Dragon instead. The people from New Edge had needed someone like the Dragon to bring it back to the big times.
So I was going to New Edge Wrestling? A company not short of being involved in controversy but hiring me was going to be an eye opener for them. They courted controversy but I was something completely different from what had been there before. Oh that I was.
New Edge Wrestling has been ahead of the curve with its wrestlers before but they hadn’t evolved with the times. Looking at their roster they were strictly 2 dimensional; they needed someone like me to get involved in all aspects of the game. They need someone that is not part of the old boy’s network and move the company on to its next incarnation.
People like Roger Wright, Johnny Stylez, Ryan Pugh and XXX have paved the path for me in this industry. If it wasn’t for them I would probably end up working in a fast food joint back home.
Yeah right. Do I look like a short order chef? Really?
But because of them and others like them I get my shot at this.
A professional wrestling promotion with television rights, now that is what beckons to me. I get my chance to wrestle the likes of Roger Wright, Valora Salinas and Hunter Valentyne. Now this will be a blast brah. I get to showcase my god given talents I have to a wider audience.
A chance to be all I can be.
I have finally received the call that I had been waiting for and I couldn’t let Osiris’s jealousy spoil that.
Finally collecting his wits, Kaupena got up to his feet and made his way to the dressing room. He opened the door and moved inside; peeling off layers of clothes as he went—although Osiris had already helped him with his t-shirt.
With a sigh, Kaupena took off his mask and threaded his fingers through his long hair. He grabbed his bag from his locker and sat in onto a bench, bending to rummage through it for a hair tie. The tie in his hand only seconds later fell to the floor as he automatically dropped it and yelped, as a sharp sting lit up his bare ass. He quickly straightened and twirled around, glaring when he came face to face with Kassidy, who was a valet for Osiris. She was holding a whip that she used in her act.
"You fucking stupid bitch!" Kaupena shouted, stomping towards the woman and attempting to snatch the whip from her. Kassidy stepped back and raised the whip above her head, wagging her finger.
"No, no Kaupena," she cooed, patronizing with a smirk.
"You know what, get out. Get out!" Kaupena shouted, stabbing his finger towards the door.
Kassidy just shook her head.
"No, I don't think so. You don't seem to understand Kau; I don't want to leave you alone. I know you’re heading to Chicago for this big show and have got yourself a great contract but you’re not leaving without me and Yolandi."
"What?" Kaupena bit out, once again trying to snag the whip away.
"You know you want to," Kassidy hissed, as she grabbed Kaupena and spun him around, pinning him against the tile wall.
For a moment all of Kaupena's breath escaped him. His eyes latched onto Kassidy's and he saw that spark which he had once loved so dearly. Kaupena shook his head, and blinked hard. No, he didn't want her but maybe taking her and Yolandi to the Mainland could work for him.
"You can make it happen?" she asked. “We can stay with you.”
"How would Osiris take it if his two valets left with me?” he said. "Probably be pissed.”
Kassidy tilted her head at Kaupena, watching him very closely as she moved her manicured fingernails softly over Kaupena's cheek, teasingly down his neck, and ticklishly over the soft skin of Kaupena's chest. The trail of her fingers slid slowly over the curve of Kaupena's left bicep, and then her hand came to rest there, cupping and squeezing the plump fleshy muscle.
"Stop it!" Kaupena shrieked, struggling to pull away from Kassidy, but she slammed him again into the wall, bringing one of her knees between Kaupena's legs.
"Are you sure that's what you want Kaupena?" Kassidy sang her voice like a siren-song. She rubbed the hard ball of her knee into Kaupena's crotch, trying to coax the man into a response.
Kaupena screwed his eyes closed tightly and demanded himself not to react to the pressure and taunting movements of Kassidy's knee rocking and grinding against him. Each moment and deliberate movement that passed made it harder and harder for him to stay still and ward off the moan that was steadily building and aching in his lungs.
"Come on baby, tell me one more time to stop, and I will." Kassidy leaned in close to Kaupena, her soft lips barely touching against the sensitive lobe of Kaupena's ear. Her breath came hot and wet against the shell, and Kaupena couldn't stop the cold-hot shiver that twisted down his spine and fanned out along each nerve that branched off from it. Kassidy chuckled.
"I just want to make sure…" Kassidy purred lowly. "That 'stop' is what you really want."
Kaupena's head tilted back against the wall, and his mouth opened in a grimace as a hoarse groan escaped past his clenched teeth. His body once again betrayed him as his hips moved, meeting the rolling and pressing of Kassidy's knee.
"That's what I thought baby." Kassidy sighed.
She moved away from Kaupena, and took in the beautiful, fiery, look of lust and need as it painted itself over Kaupena's face.
"I hate you." Kaupena spat, as he moved back towards his bag, cursing when he reached for it and both of them saw the trembling in his hand.
"Kaupena, come on." Kassidy reached for Kaupena's hand, and took it into her own. "Just throw on some sweats and a T-shirt, put your mask back on and we'll blow this place, go back to my hotel room, and we'll have one more night together before you head off to New Edge Wrestling."
Kaupena tugged his hand away from Kassidy's and wiped the sheen of sweat from his face, cursing again.
"Please?" Kassidy added, in a barely audible whisper.
Kaupena bent to retrieve the hair tie he'd dropped earlier, and then straightened again. His breathing was beginning to even out a little, but he was still aware of the need now awoken and burning inside of him. With a sigh he swept his hair away from his face and wrapped it into a sloppy ponytail.
"Fine. Alright Kassidy…" Shaking his head, Kaupena pulled a plain tee from his bag and slipped it over his head. "I'll take you and Yolandi to Chicago. You need to sort it with Osiris as I’m not taking his shit for you again. I have a match on the big 200th edition of Ignite to get ready for plus I have a lot of publicity to do for Jesse Styles."
Kassidy smiled, and stood up, moving over to Kaupena once more. She wrapped her arms around his waist, and kissed the back of his neck, grinning wider when she felt the shudder course through Kaupena's flesh. Her hands moved to Kaupena's hips and she turned him around, the grin on her face morphing into a dark smirk.
"It’ll be fun, I promise!"
Kassidy's laughter rang out through the dressing room as she hurried from it, leaving Kaupena only with the whip left behind on the tile floor, and his own frustrated scream to keep him company.
“Chicago’s going to be interesting.”
So this was it?
This was my big break. I only be a wrestler for about a year and now was heading off to the Mainland. It was amazing to watch it all unfold. This was supposed to be the biggest show for them. I’d gone over there to see some of their house shows and you could feel the buzz in the building as every match and every in ring promo went down. It was amazing, how everyone worked with each other to make the best product that could be done.
And I was joining this family.
I sat there and watched people like Hunter Valentyne pondering by the ramp way as the main event was going on ready for his big return shot at the 200th Ignite, he had noticed me gawking, like some mark and smirked at me.
I have made it. I am a professional wrestler.
One of the back offices had come up to me and told me that when I was booked on the 200th Ignite I would be in a big time match with some big time stipulations.
Wow, they were giving me a big chance. A chance to get a shot at however the NEW World Heavyweight Champion is at their Demented pay per view. Now that was big. They have given little old me a huge match. Yes I said that right.
Demented.
Me? In a match that is worth it for the prestige and prize that comes from it.
So who did I get picked to face?
Seven other wrestlers trying to make an Impact, wanting that same chance as I.
Some of them have already been there and done it but cannot face the prospect of being without their spot but others are an unknown to me. When I had been growing up I remember watching Roger Wright wrestling on my television and he had been a part of what had brought me to this sport.
Devin Stone? I’ve seen his matches, I know who he is. I know who he thinks he is.
Legend?
Franchise?
Iconic Legend?
Is this guy for real? Or has he been smoking some real good shit. Or maybe he’s been stealing it from Johnny Stylez personal stash. Could be that by the looks of him; what do he think he looks like? Some hill billy trailer park trash who’s married to his own sister who just so happens to be his cousin too?
So I have to face this man that thinks he is this living legend in this industry just by being a journeys man like one of my other opponents, Dravaka Drimstone.
No disrespect to you Dravaka, but come on. I may be new to this industry but even I can see that you are a no talented bum who is only in this industry because of your size. You are not worthy to even to be in the same ring as us let alone be thought of being in a World title match my friend but knowing your reputation you’d probably enjoy it. This is a new NEW not one from the 1980’s. This is the re-launch of the NEW brand and it needs to go in a new direction. And that is to erase the old guard and let the next generation of NEW Superstars shine through. People like me will bring perfection to this company. Not like the old NEW.
That’s what killed it last time. Too many egos after their own spot were here and not trying to help the company get what it needed. Continuity; we need to move the brand onto the next level. And that is why I, Kaupena Yoon have been brought in.
I have seen the tapes, hell I watched them live on television with my cousin. I saw the cRu, I saw La Dolce Vita, I saw the Business, I saw Unstable, and it was good times. But like anything it had its time. Now other people had to rejuvenate a stale situation.
People like Matthew Haven, Impact, Vastrix and James are where this promotion should be aiming but instead of gimmicky matches like this Sears tower thing it should be concentrating on wrestling matches. I’m not some free-runner I’m a damn wrestler. I will give my last ounce of blood to make this match the highlight of the show but of all 200 Ignite also. Only the Dragon can Ignite…….Ignite!
This is a new beginning for NEW. It rises like a phoenix from the ashes and its people like me, Kaupena Yoon that will do that. Prove me wrong because I am the Dragon. So guys, do you really want to mess with all of this?
Do you?
Do you think I will let you?
No, this is a new era for NEW and you are now looking at the wrestler simply known as the Dragon. Battle 4 Chicago was mine to lose.
Come on, we all have those stories? Even a Hawaiian high flyer like me has a back story, skeletons in our closets. No pun intended.

I am not a free-runner
