“What the bloody hell was that?” Tera asked as she and Nathan left the funeral home. “You basically declared war on them back there and fookin’ last rites?”
Nathan said nothing at first and indeed, remained silent until they reached the car and both got in and Tera glared at him before he finally spoke. I needed a statement. Evidently, beating Nocturnal twice now isn’t going to be considered enough. So, I put them on notice. I’m fighting for the World Title Tera and damn it. I plan to make this chance count. Besides, tell me what I said is false? Look around NEW today. Cheaters and those who take shortcuts are held up as legends and those who stand for something other than their own egos and legacies are held back. I’m angry at Al Envy for taking advantage of Dixie Clement, but the culture of NEW made it possible by denying her a chance to advance. Valora has shown glimpses of trying to be something more noble than she currently is. A part of her truly wishes to be the heroine, I believe. But again, she’s denied that because Jesse wants blood and violence and he knows just how to push Valora to ensure she’ll give him what he wants..”
“I thought Jesse was an ally of yours.” Tera said. Nathan shrugged as he drove along to the next destination. “Jesse and I have common enemies. But I’ve got my own agenda. An agenda that has now presented me with the opportunity to punish three people who worship at the Altar of Pride. 3 so called legends. Hunter? What is he a legend at? Setting the record for most times he’s been fired? Setting a record for being such an arsehole that no other fed will waste their time on him? Oh, that’s right… he was a great tag team wrestler.. when Johnny Stylez was carrying his worthless arse.
Blair? Take out that thrice damned piece of technology of yours and check that damned social media shite…” Tera does so and turns it so that Nathan can see it. Nathan, glances at it as he pulls into the parking lot of a Church and smirks and shakes his head. “A close up of Valora’s breasts and a claim they’re fake. That was really the best she could come up with? I dunnae know if I should call her an idiot or what. But Valora’s fanbase just grew… see? That’s Blair’s problem. She cannae think. Cannae plan she just… reacts. “
Tera nods. “Well, I dunnae see a response from Valora.” Nathan shrugs. “Valora doesn’t need to respond and get into an inane argument about whose breasts are bigger or more natural or whatever. If I know Valora, she’s busy preparing for the fight. She wants that belt and will do anything, risk anything to get it. That is Valora’s mistake. In a fatal fourway match, her reckless nature will work against her and she is likely to remove herself from the match Hunter is always more obsessed with his own needs, desires and feuds than anything else. He won’t be able to let his feud with Riot go. If he doesn’t attack Riot directly, he’ll attack him indirectly by going after Valora. All in all, Hunter can be summed up in one word. Predictable.” Nathan says as he gets out of the car and walks around the back of the church to where there is a small graveyard set up. He makes his way to a series of three gravestones and smirks as he looks over them. Furthest right is a gravestone that says ‘Here Lies Valora Salinas. New Edge Wrestling ‘Legend’ She battled her demons and lost because her stubborn pride kept her from reaching out for help.
The middle gravestone says ‘Here Lies Blair Buchanan. New Edge ‘Legend’ She always had to be the center of attention and have the spotlight on her. Now all she has is this center spot in the grave and obscurity in Hell as one of the damned.
The gravestone to the left says ‘Here lies Hunter Valentyne. New Edge Wrestling ‘Legend’ A dick in life, a dick in death, he’s now in hell with Satan’s dick ripping his arse to shreds.” Tera looks at Nathan. “Okay, that last one was a bit juvenile.” Nathan grins. “Matches the lad, Tera… matches the lad. See with Hunter, one has to put things in a way his pea sized brain can understand. But his sins have been noted. I gave all three of them the chance to seek penance. None of them took it. Now, like the Angel of Death himself, I will punish them for their sins. New Edge has made it clear they don’t want forgiveness. They want sin. Well, it’s time the fear of God was put into this place and since what I did to Nocturnal didn’t do it, destroying three so called legends and taking the World Title will have to suffice.
It’s like I told them. The man is comin’ around and it’s time to send a message.”
Tera looks around and is about to say something when she pauses and thinks for a moment before asking. “Think they’ll ever regret things?”
Nathan nods. “People always do. Nature of Sin. It’s all fun and games at first, but it weighs on the soul after awhile. Valora is a perfect example of that. No, I think the question isn’t so much will they regret their sins as it is will they regret their sins in time.”
Tera raises an eyebrow. “Thought you said it’s never too late.”
Nathan smirks. “It isn’t. But it requires you to be truly sorry for your sins, truly repentant. Not just guarding against the possibility you might be going to Hell when you die and trying to find the loophole out of being a miserable human being all your life. But in addition to people looking to cheat death, you have people like Valora, who have convinced themselves that somehow whatever they have done makes it impossible for them to achieve forgiveness. I’m not sure what exactly Valora did that believes is so horrible, but from the few conversations we’ve had, it’s obvious there’s something there.”
Tera nods. “So, who’s the main target? Which of the three you goin’ for?” Nathan shrugs. “Whoever gives me the opportunity first. See that’s the big advantage of this match. Fatal four way rules. First one to score a pinfall or submission wins. For once, the champ has no advantage. I can beat Hunter and become World Champ. I can beat Valora and become World Champ. I only have to focus on that one pinfall. Whoever gives me the first chance to land the Left Hand of God is gettin’ it. I’ll let the Lord and fate decide who gets punishment first. Right now, I think we could both use a pint. Let’s go.”
Tera and Nathan head off towards a nearby pub as Nathan thinks about the upcoming match one more time. Soon, all too soon, he’ll learn if his bid to win a World Title will come to fruition...
