Good things do not always come to those that wait for them. One must do more than sit on your posterior waiting for some kind of prosperity to smack you right between your eyes. It is not wrong to have some kind of hope for something better but what can you actively do to pursue this course of action without losing sight of the bigger picture.
With my loss at Ignite 200 in my debut had opened my eyes to what was always before me. This statement of truths is dedicated to my next match which in my own words of wisdom mixed with the wise ranting’s of those that live in a deluded oblivion within the confines of their clothing. Rants are not always eventful but when they come from the likes of some of those that work for New Edge Wrestling and it is always eventful but if you were on the end of one of them it was what was right for the new era of the promotion.
With my first title match coming up against the man that was trying to justify himself by clawing onto the New Edge Wrestling’s Trans-Atlantic Champion I need to be truly motivated to make myself seem more than a second class citizen in this match. I know people probably do not think that I deserve a shot at what some people claim to be the second tier title of this company but to get to the pinnacle of this industry it is anyone’s game.
The New Edge Wrestling’s Trans-Atlantic Championship belt will be around this waist of mine. Yes it will.
Live on Ignite 201 this dream can……no scratch that. This dream WILL become true. I am more than a dream to those that stand side by side against someone like me. I am more than a mere nightmare that has those that hold the power quaking in this boots. Can they have someone from that wears a mask representing their company? Has a luchador ever held a belt in this promotion? I will win this for those masked wrestlers that have come and gone.
Al Envy believe’s himself to be the greatest Trans-Atlantic Champion of all time. Maybe for length he has it but it’s not all about the length of the title reign but about what you do with that title.
To say that these last few weeks had been a mix of ups and downs would be an understatement for Kaupena Yoon aka the Dragon. He stood at the dark hotel room's covered window, one hand parting the drapes only an inch or two as he surveyed the streets outside.
Chicago, Illinois is where the Dragon was now stationed. He was away from his island and it was strange for him. The New Edge Wrestling promotion was back home as it had been having money troubles. Kaupena had mixed emotions of the last few months as he had not only left his home but had come to this cold, windy city to further his career.
Nothing moved along the streets; only a tomcat on prowl for rats. There had been no vehicular traffic for the last several minutes.
He caressed his mask as he straightened his t-shirt. He had just got back from the NEW Arena where he had been running through some stuff for his match with Al Envy. If you had asked Kaupena about being in the main event of an Ignite show for the NEW Trans-Atlantic Championship belt a few weeks ago Kaupena would have probably told you to take a running jump off of a big cliff into a lake of man eating Piranha. But this was actually happening, and this was going to be fun once again. Kaupena had come all the way from Hawaii for things like this. And to wrestle one of his childhood heroes was going to be fun.
He glanced down at a side street four floors below. A Chicago Police car was slowly cruising along the alley, its headlights blacked out. Kaupena smiled to himself ever so slyly from behind his mask.
Having lost his chance to main event the Demented pay per view to Austin Impact was been quite an eye opener to him. He had been not been used to all these gimmick match in Hawaii. The nearest he got to a gimmick match in hSw was when Osiris brought himself a cage.
Yes, it is true. Last week with his chance to become the man to challenge the NEW World Champion at Demented he had let himself down by trying to make a good impression on the New Edge fan base. He wanted to go into the match this week for himself this time. He was going to bring the NEW Trans-Atlantic Championship back home to his waist. This time was his time.
Al Envy thinks that because he is the longest running Trans-Atlantic Champion that he has the god given right to insult someone like me. He seemed to be hanging onto the notion that he is going into the match at Ignite as someone with someone that does not even stand a chance. Sorry Al, but you know it is coming. You know that disrespecting mem was the worst thing you could have done. You think because you go under the little moniker of the Show Stealer that you are still relevant in industry.
Al Envy had once been depicted as one of the most talented pound for pound wrestler in this industry but that was then and now he was just a washed up veteran who hung onto his spot by any means necessary and he was doing whatever he could to stay there. It was pathetic really how the mighty have fallen from the pinnacle of this industry to just being one of those guys.
Kaupena looked at the woman who was in the same room as him; Kassidy. She was one of the valets that had left hSw for the big times with Kaupena. She was dressed in something that can only be described as some weird combination of Victorian high fashion and some kind of strange Fetish wear.
Humming an almost imperceptible tune, Kaupena continued to stare at one of the women that would be standing in his corner when he defeat’s Al Envy and brings the New Edge Wrestling’s Trans-Atlantic Championship around his waist, the hint of a sneer curling across his lips behind his mask as he thought about the prize.
So the devil’s in the detail. Kaupena couldn’t believe that Al still had the drive to compete in the squared circle anymore. He had competed with the likes of the washed up XXX and Ryan Pugh but at least they had the notion when to get out and not become weird caricatures of themselves.
Allowing the drapes to fall back into place he returned to the couch.
“Are they joking with me Kassidy?” Kaupena asked. “Do they think that someone of my wrestling talents should lower myself to wrestle a man that’s body is about to give out on him? He doesn’t belong in this promotion any more. I did not think we were one of those promotions. He just needs to call it a day, Al Envy what is his major malfunction? This guy thinks he stands a chance with someone like me? I do not think so. He is actually putting giving New Edge a bad name for that.”
Kassidy just nodded at him but did not say anything in response.
Kaupena turned and looked directly at her. She seemed to be a lot calmer than the last time he had seen her. He stroked the side of her face, combing the hair out of her eyes.
“So are you and Yolandi going to be at my side?” he asked. “I don’t trust the wily fox to not have something up his sleeves to try and cheat his way through it. He needs to keep his hands on the title belt as it is precious to him.”
She smiled, “Yes Kau. I know what you mean. We will be in your corner brah. We have got your back. Can I ask you a question?”
“Yes?” Kaupena answered her whilst he went to sit down. “You know that I am always here to listen.”
Nervously Kassidy approached him.
“Your question?” Kaupena asked. “I do not bite, especially through my mask. You should know that Kassidy.”
Kassidy nervously stands next to him. “I know you will be doing your thing for the Hawaiian nation but I think that Al might have some ulterior motive to keep that gold strap. I don’t trust him far enough for you to punt his ass.”
“True,” Kaupena mused at her little rant. “I know. You should know that is what motivates me. I know that the golden days of Al Envy are no longer around but it is only the start of things with me and New Edge Wrestling. Ignite will be interesting times for us.”
He motions for her to sit down.
“Starting with this week’s Ignite,” Kaupena said. “This is where it all kicks off majorly. When I beat this old timer it will be the Age of the Dragon.”
Kassidy chuckled, “True; But what you going to do about this week’s Ignite? Al is in the same league as Hunter Valentyne and Roger Wright. Those old timers need to get gone and leave this promotion to the next generation.”
“I remember watching New Edge when I was a kid, you remember that?” asked Kaupena. “It is all connected. They so need to just move on and let people like Valora and myself take it to the next level once again. Now with Father Nathan as World Champion that is a step in the right direction.”
“I know Kaupena,” Kassidy said. “But do not underestimate Al otherwise you might end up with an embarrassing defeat.”
“If I need to sort out NEW from the bottom upwards that does not even rate on my scale then all good.” Kaupena said. “When it comes to this week the Trans-Atlantic Championship is going to be mine. But if I need to sort NEW out first then that is all going to be fun. In some promotions yes, the corruption is evident. The owners line there fat pockets with the money of the pathetic fans that give it away to them. But this company seemed to have a little bit of ethics, not a lot. Maybe Jesse will surprise us all. You see most wrestling promotions in this country would probably have buried me for years before giving me a chance in a main event.”
“You shouldn’t underestimate Al Envy just because he’s not in your league now Kaupena.” Kassidy said. “He does deserve to be utterly destroyed for having the audacity for still wrestling in the squared circle to sort out and in due course you will get to him.”
Kaupena caressed his mask. “This is going to be an intriguing time for the company. Especially now that the Dragon flies within its ranks. People better stay out of my flight plan, ‘cos this brah’s not gonna stop for nobody. And you saw what happens to them Kassidy?"
Kassidy shrugged, “I know that you are going to make an impact. If New Edge Wrestling is to move on it needs to be moulded in The Dragon’s image. You will bring in a new era of your making in to it.”
“We all have our curses it seems, “ Kaupena said. ”I just see people like my opponent at Ignite walking around with his chests puffed out. Does he really think that pride of being the longest reigning NEW Trans-Atlantic Champion will be good for him? Does he want to underestimate me?”
Smirking Kassidy leaned in, “You do Kaupena. But you are the future of this wrestling promotion. And then there will be peace.”
“No one has achieved peace without fighting for it.” Kaupena said. “Behind every peace, there's a river of blood, sweat and tears. But if we avert our eyes from that history and abandon it, then peace might as well be a piece of Dog Crap..........But I shouldn’t be going on about this here. When I beat Al Envy this week; and I will beat him. I will become the greatest NEW Trans-Atlantic Champion ever.”
