The gentle breeze swept through the area as gently as the kiss of a newborn baby as boats glide across the water at low speeds. On the dock surrounding Cedar Creek Lake you see fathers and sons, daughters and mothers all casting their lines out hoping to score one of those infamous channel cats the lake was so known to produce. It was your typical day at the lake. Clear skies and a bright sun only added to the appeal of the scene that was spread out in front of your eyes. Happiness was abundant as families enjoyed their day at the lake.
Well...everyone wasn’t really happy.
Standing on a small hill just off the shore of the lake stood Al Envy. His glare cover over the water and in all honesty there was nowhere near the joy that others enjoying this day. Al Envy loved being at the lake as well, yet a prior incident came up that reminded him of a terrible accident. At a recent family get together set up by his girlfriend Shelby a revelation was spoken by his cousin Chris. What shock right a family get together involving Al and his relatives goes south right? Yet this time Chris went way too far as he spilled out a dark secret that very few knew about Al Envy.
Al had a little brother, sadly the key word there was.....had
Michael Webster was around a year and a half younger than Al was. It seemed like the second Al was popped out of his mother dear ol dad went back to work to give little Envy a sibling so he wouldn’t grow up an only child. So on July 3rd 1982 Michael was born. Of course Al didn’t remember that day he wasn’t even fucking two years old yet. However from the time Al could remember he was really close to Michael, even though as Al recalled it seemed to him that Michael got a whole lot more attention than he did.
Gee a brother getting more attention than his sibling, sounds familiar doesn’t it Matthew Carter. Oh and Envy was just like you were Matt, always trying to find reasons to put himself ahead of his brother and failing, not as bad as you have but yeah in a lot of ways Michael outshined Al. He was a better little league baseball player, better in school, stronger, faster, and just overall the favorite of the family. Shit as Al thought about it he didn’t even remember Mike ever getting a fucking switch. Then again he doesn’t even recall Mike ever getting in trouble.
So you have to understand Matthew that Al getting thrown in between this whole thing between you and Roger Wright, who oh by the way is the special guest referee in this match for some fucking reason, already fucked with Al Envy’s head in the first place well before his cousin reminded him that Michael had a tragic accident, on this very lake and blamed Al for allowing him to die, even going as far as calling Envy a murderer.
Yet you see Matthew Carter even though Envy didn’t care for Michael getting all of that attention over him he didn’t hate his little brother. He was proud of him and the accomplishments that he achieved with so few years slated in his life. You on the other hand are an ungrateful little bitch. I will have to admit that that was one thing that made me jealous of you, the fact that you had your brother your entire life so far. I always think what if Michael would have stayed alive. Would he have became a pro wrestler like his older brother did. Would I be just like you and right now be living in hs immense shadow due to all the success he could have had?
Yeah I know its hard to believe that there is someone on this fucking planet that can outshine Al Envy. However 9f there was anyone that could out do the show stealer it would have been his brother. Michael was a genuine soul let me tell you. Unlike Matthew Carter Michael had charisma even at 7 years old when he died. Everyone in the family knew he was destined for great things, then it all tragically came to a screeching hault.
When Chris mentioned Michael to Al even though Envy never forgot what happened that day, he had done a pretty damn good job to suppress that memory and only remember the good times. But since the family get together disaster the memory of that tragic day has replayed in Al Envy’s mind on a continuous loop. Standing there with a Shiner beer in his hand and a stone cold look on his face staring out at the lake once again that horrible day played through his mind once again.
=======================================
“Got dammit I am not calling you boys again!! Come get your fucking burgers dammit!!”
Al and Michael’s dad was standing over a hot portable grill sweating his ass off. You have to understand that this was July in Texas. The heat from the grill plus the fact there was no breeze and it was 98 plus humidity you had to feel for the old man. So him yelling at his 8 and 7 year old sons could be a little understandable. The boys father brought his boys out for a day on the lake. Their mom couldn’t make it because of her job which was as a bookkeeper for Cash America whose corporate office used to be stationed in Downtown Fort Worth.
Out from the lake Al and his little brother come running up to their dad. Looking irritated at them for taking so long to get their asses back to their picnic spot you could tell their dad was having a blast. He had had a hellacious week at work yet he wished his wife would have been there. Yet it was a busy week for her so she had to work overtime sadly to catch up. Yet he was there with his two boys, and just that alone made him feel that all the bullshit he dealt with at work was well worth it just to earn this moment he had right now.
Al and Michael downed their fathers dry ass burgers (he was a shitty cook when it came to grilling) drank their thermoses of water and sat back and looked out towards the lake.
Dad: You guys need to wait 30 minutes before you go swimming. Can’t swim on a full tummy of such good food there boys.
Obviously dad thought he was a fucking pit master and because neither of the kids or their mom wanted to hurt his feelings none of them told him otherwise. But Al and Mike were getting anxious to get back to what they had been doing. They had found something really neat down by the far shore of the lake that they had swimmed out too earlier.
Mike: Hey dad if we promise not to swim can we go out to the shore and just play?
Sucking down that trademark Marlboro Red cigarette that he used to smoke three packs a day of (He would have a massive heart attack just a couple months later) their dad who was now reading the sports page of the newspaper just nodded his head. The two boys jumped up.
Al: Race ya..
Even with Al cheating a little and taking off before Mike was ready Michael easily beat his older brother in the race. Feeling a little frustrated Al finally arrived back to where he and his brother made their discovery.
Mike: I wonder how long this thing has been here??
It was a skeleton of a large animal, or in the eyes of seven and eight year old boys a large animal. Both of the boys were thinking it was the fictional Goat Man that was a legendary story that they and so many others were told. The skull was shaped like a goat, or so they thought. So hey maybe these two kids made the discovery of the century!!
Al: I am telling you little bro its the goat man. Uncle Ben told us that he shot him once remember??
Mike: Yeah he did.
The two brothers looked at the skeleton with a little more intrigue. Finally big brother Al had an idea.
Al: Lets carry it back to dad and show him.
Mike: No fucking way dude!!
Mike clasped his mouth and looked around hoping someone, especially his dad didn’t hear him say the f word. Al looked at his little brother and laughed.
Al: Let’s just forget it bro. Let’s go swimming.
Mike: But has it been thirty minute yet?
Al: Its been close enough. Come on we are going to have to leave soon. Dad has to go to work early tomorrow.
The two brothers run into the lake and start swimming. One thing Al was better than his brother at was swimming.
Al: Swim race back to the shore?
Mike: Let’s do it. I will get you to Envy me one day big brother
So the race began. Al like I said was a better swimmer. He had a pretty good lead and looked behind him. His brother was nowhere to be found. Al started yelling for Mike which caused a crowd to gather around on the shore. Al dived under the water and that was when he saw his brother caught on a piece of wood debris. It was a sizeable log and somehow Mike had gt his foot caught in it when he was swimming.
Al floated under water for a second. He was too stunned to know what to do. He watched as his little brother was struggling for his life, to break free but little Al just floated there staring. Finally he got the sense enough to try and help Mike but before he got there Mike went lifeless. Suddenly two sets of hands reached in and grabbed him. He was brought back to the surface as another man dove in. After a few second the man brought up the lifeless body of Michael Webster. Al Envy would never forget his father screaming Michael’s name as the man carried Michael up on the shore. They tried and tried to resuscitate him but he was under the water for too long.
Dad: Oh God Oh God!!! MMIICCHHAAEELL!!!
Al watched as his dad clutched and rocked back and forth with his baby boy. He stared into his oldest boys eyes and Al just stared back. Tears streaming down his face as the hot Texas sun rained down on the back of his neck.
=======================================================
That happened just about 25 yards from where Al was standing right now back in 1988. He opened his eyes after once again reliving that horrible day that happened in the year 1988. Things were never the same after that. Hs dad became a recluse and started drinking. Every time Al got in trouble or did something stupid he was always told would Michael had done that hell no he wouldn’t have. Al remembered one time after a big fight with his father his dad said that he always thought the wrong son died that fateful afternoon. And he was convincing enough for even Al to believe that.
He went his entire life without his brother abd always envied the ones that still had theirs. So that is why he felt so close to this whole situation between Matthew Carter and his brother Roger Wright. It was more than Roger being one of his best friends too. It was the fa ct that Matthew Carter was lucky enough to have his brother his entire life and has the audacity to speak so negatively of him and treat him like a piece of shit. And why is that? All because his brother was better than him. All because instead of being a little bitch like Matthew waiting for shit to fall into his fucking lap Roger went out and earned everything. Hell where would Matthew Carter be without Roger Wright. Everyone knew the answer to that except apparently Matthew himself.
Al took one last glance out at the lake and took a deep breath. He wiped the tear out of his eye and turned around. He locked eyes with a man who was standing right behind him. His beard had grown longer over the years and was as white as snow. He started walking towards Al who just stood there.
“Hey hoot…”
Al smirked and turned his back on the man standing in front of him. He looked back again towards the lake. He was only called that name by one person and his kids, who were at Al’s house the other day
Uncle Clyde, his mom’s little brother, walked over to Envy and stood next to him. For a few minutes they didn’t say anything to each other. They haven’t seen or spoke with each other since Al’s mom and Clyde’s sister was laid to rest. That was where once again Al was blamed for something out of his control by the very Uncle standing next to him. Somehow Al introduced the cancer she kept secret till the week before she died because he was blamed for her death. So let’s keep count...Al killed his brother and his mother, why is he not in jail right now?
Uncle Clyde: The water is up…..thats good the lake was below……
Al Envy: What are you doing here?
Clyde kind of cleared his throat. He looked at his nephew and seemed a little nervous speaking with him.
Uncle Clyde: I try and come out here as much as I can. Usually to pay respects to Michael since his ashes were spread out her.
The name of Michael once again dug into Al’s side. He started rubbing the back of his neck.
Al Envy: I thought maybe you just wanted to come back to the scene of the crime, well according to your son the scene of the crime.
Uncle Clyde: Yeah I heard about that. Its the reason why I went to your house but your yard guy told me you were heading to the lake. Ad since well this is the ony lake any of us have ever gone too I knew it was going to be easy to find you.
Al Envy: If you came t apologize just fucking don’t ok. You are not responsible to fix your son’s mistakes. Or do you think he is right, you think I killed my mother so what is that sme kind of father son thing between you and him?
The conversation wasn’t going as Clyde hoped it would. Things were starting to get tense.
Uncle Clyde: You didn’t kill you brother Alan. It was a horrible accident and you were too young and confused at the time to react. What killed him was those logs he got his foot caught in because he sank a little low. Chris was out of line with that. I hate to admit this about my own son but his jealousy sometimes makes him out to be a complete asshole.
Even though Clyde was saying what Al wanted to hear he just really didn’t care anymore. He was done trying to reconcile with his family. Al ws tired of the disrespect he received from them.
Al Envy: You know….he isn’t the only one jealous you know. You are too aren't you?
Clyde looked at his nephew in a sad way. He started shaking his head in disagreement.
Al Envy: You see you are jealous because your sister’s son went out and made a name for himself instead of one of your kids. All my life I heard it from every single one of you motherfuckers oh what if Michael wouldn’t have died how great Michael would be at this and that. You assholes reminded me each and every single day how special Michael was. I fucking knew how special my brother was. I didn’t need you or dad to tell me that. I didn’t need anyone in this got damn family to tell me that! I FUCKING KNEW IT!!
Clyde started to sweat a little and shift in one spot.
Al Envy: You know what. Michael is gone. He has been gone 27 fucking years. I am tired of hearing the what ifs. What if Michael survived. What if mom would have told us about the cancer sooner, what if it was Matthew Carter that had all of the talent instead of his brother. I am not about fucking what if’s anymore. I haven’t been about them in a long time. That is why I am where I am at in life and why you and your cock suck kids are plugging away at 25 thousand a year barely paying their rent.
Al could tell his Uncle was getting angry. Good he hoped the asshole did.
Uncle Clyde: You know what Alan…..yeah I do think the wrong nephew died.
Al immediately shoved his 60 year old Uncle down to the ground. He got up quickly but all of a sudden had a hard time breathing. He started clutching at his chest and crashed back down ti the grass. He looked up at his nephew with fear. Al just stood there like he did when he just floated when Michael was so helpless. The difference was he was at that time in the water frozen with fear. Right now he did it because he just didn’t give a flying fuck.
Uncle Clyde: help…...help me….
Al stepped away and placed his Oakley’s over his eyes. He smiled at his uncle who was starting to stop breathing by now.
Al Envy: See you around Clyde.
Al turned his back on his uncle who was now unconscious. He looked back out towards the lake as he walked away and thought about the happy times with his brother once again. He suppressed that bad memory deep down once again as he made his way back to his Chevy Silverado.
Al Envy was done worrying about what his family thought about him. For years he has regretted that he dedicated so much to pro wrestling and seemed to put them on the back burner. Finally he realized that he made the right choice in the matter. Al had finally realized that he didn’t need his family anymore and and as far as they were concerned he would never speak or see them again. He had his career, his life, and Shelby Taylor to keep him happy.
Unlike you Matthew Carter who needs his brother to keep himself relevant. At Ignite in the main event, something you have never earned before unless your brother was involved, you are going up against the face of New Edge Wrestling. Al Envy has a mission...he is going to kick your ass and earn his way into Terradome, the match he fucking invented, and get the world title for the third time. When Al Envy wins it finally it will be the title it i supposed to be.
You sit there and talk about how I am also in the shadow of your brother because you still have to justify to yourself that you don’t really suck. Well Envy would like to think he had a hand in creating the legend of Roger Wright. It was Al’s idea of Terradome where Roger placed himself on the map by winning his first world title in. It was his matches with Al Envy that molded him into the champion that he became. Al Envy helped make Roger Wright along with the hard work he himself put in. That is why he and Envy have the respect they do for each other.
You call Envy the king of being second rate or something. Well its better to be second rate than some loser that is only a champion right now because once again his more talented brother helped him win. And the only fucking way you are beating the show stealer at Ignite is if your brother as special guest referee in the match actually chooses to help you, and with the way you have treated the man that helped you earn what pathetic success you have earned I just don’t see him doing that. But if he did then I would have no problem taking up my grievance against Roger for that.
At Ignite Al Envy continues the win streak. He is going to prove once again that he is the show stealer, once again he is the greatest TA champion of all time, once again he is the bonafide fucking face of New Edge Wresting, and the future World Champion.
All you are going to prove is that you will be nothing more than Roger... Wright’s... little... brother...
Well...everyone wasn’t really happy.

Wright’s... little... brother...
