May 15, 2015
The studio audience is ready as the news had leaked out that the special guest on The View for the day would be none other than Liz Smalls. Usually, multiple women host the show but today, there are two chairs on set. One, is being used by Whoopi Goldberg and the other is empty. The camera's begin filming as it zooms in on Whoopi.
Whoopi Goldberg: Good morning everyone and welcome to a special edition of The View. Normally, I'm not alone but today is different. Today's guest personally requested that only one of us interview her and I just so happened to be the lucky one.
The audience watches Whoopi intently.
Whoopi Goldberg: Now, some of you are probably wondering why in the heck would we give into demands made by one of our guests, well, its simple really. Our guest today is someone who is known worldwide and we simply did not want to pass up the opportunity to get to know her a little bit. I guess I can stop playin' around and just introduce her. The guest today for our show is professional wrestler Liz Smalls.
Saxophone music is played as Liz Smalls walks out onto the set. Liz has a smile spread across her face as she shakes Whoopi's hand. Almost immediately after Whoopi turns to head back to her chair, Liz reaches into her Michael Kors bag and pulls out a mini bottle of hand sanitizer and rubs it over her hands. Finally, both women take their seats as the studio audience applauds.
Liz Smalls: You guys can keep clapping, I won't ask you to stop.
The audience laughs at Liz's comment before finally settling down moments later as Whoopi looks out towards them smiling and the back to Liz.
Whoopi Goldberg: Okay, you're going to have to explain something to me. You walk out here and you're young, beautiful, smiling...why do people hate you so much?
The audience erupts into laughter, prompting a smile by Liz.
Whoopi Goldberg: No, I'm being serious. Reading all of the comments on social media today before the show, I thought I was about to come face to face with a devil girl, but then you walked out. Why do you have such a negative reputation?
Liz Smalls: I don't know, I think you would have to ask those people that call me a devil. I certainly don't believe I'm evil. I'm all about entertaining people. Whether it be in a wrestling ring, on tv, in movies, photoshoots, social media, whatever. We're in a business, a business where being irrelevant means you make less money. I don't want to lose money, so I constantly keep myself relevant, no matter the cost to myself of my opponents at times.
Whoopi Goldberg: Come on Liz, you're this little blonde, cute girl. Surely you've had to do more than keep yourself 'relevant' than just entertain people. I see your name in all of the blogs for multiple reasons. Open up to the audience about why that is.
Liz Smalls: Ummm, its because I don't always have a filter. Like, if I think you have ugly hair, which I do, I'll say it.
The audience 'ooohhhhs's' at Liz's early attack on Whoopi. Whoopi smiles as the light glares off her glasses.
Liz Smalls: Liiike, don't misinterpret me...what I meant was...
Whoopi Goldberg: Okay little girl, I'm all for freedom of speech and staying relevant however you want, but don't come on my show and-
Liz Smalls: I was talking, Whitney.
Liz blurts out sternly as the audience shouts at her that the name is 'Whoopi'.
Liz Smalls: Before I was RUDELY interrupted....
Liz flips her blonde hair arrogantly, playing up for the cameras.
Liz Smalls: I was saying that I have no filter. I speak my mind, and not everyone can handle the truth. People have no issue flinging insults around, or spreading lies, but when it comes back on them they cry foul. Oh well, I don't apologize for anything I say and I never will.
Whoopi Goldberg: We won't even get into all of that right now then. What I understand from my research is that you come from some kind of wrestling family. Is that how you got into the business as you call it?
Liz Smalls: My late daddy was a wrestler. My half brother wrestled. My uncles wrestled. Me being a girly girl growing up, I never had any intentions of wrestling actually. I was fine being the one who went and competed and won all of these beauty pageants. I was totally content being in commercials for everything from toothpaste to nail polish. I loved the photoshoots. Then I heard about the money involved in wrestling, the ability to springboard you to bigger things and I decided to give it a try. Eventually, I fell in love with it. Do I love the paychecks I receive? Of course. But it's not entirely about the money at this point. This is about proving to everyone that a pretty face can kick a little butt too.
Whoopi Goldberg: But do you think that sometime people more so associate you with your antics on social media, over what you might have accomplished in a wrestling ring?
Liz Smalls: Sure, but that's how people are right? I mean, America loves a good story. If you watch the news at night, more times than not its all negative. They talk about murders, or drugs, or whatever. They won't put a story on the news about someone starting a fundraiser in their community in order to build more houses. That isn't must see tv. Its the same thing in wrestling, or any field actually, the negativity gets more of the spotlight than the good. Liiike, okies, I might be a little rude to some people, but what about my Coast 2 Coast Charity? That gets no press and when it does, its from annoying little weirdo's that photoshop fake news articles saying that I rip people off when I would NEVER do that. So, they can talk about whatever as long as they keep talking.
Whoopi Goldberg: What about your accomplishments? It seems to me that people tend to overlook those, does that bother you?
Liz Smalls: It does and it doesn't Whitney.
Whoopi Goldberg: It's Whoopi, Liz.
Liz Smalls: O-M-G whatevs! Whitney, Whoopie, same thing. Anyyyways, it does at times. Whenever I wrestle somewhere, the fact that I'm a former World Champion seems to mean nothing, or people say 'but the place closed down when you won the belt because you suck'. Ummm, no. I was NOT the reason it closed, and if I sucked I wouldn't have beaten 4 people in one night to win the title. So yeah, its annoying but people make themselves look stupider when they ignore what I've done.
You know what does bother me though? Why someone like me, a former world champion, former tag team champion is the underdog to someone like Vixen.
Whoopi Goldberg: Can you tell the audience who exactly Vixen is?
Liz Smalls: Vixen is my opponent on May 19th in Madison Square Garden. I'm doing a guest appearance for a wrestling company that I think really highly of, New Edge Wrestling. They are paying me GOOD MONEY for the match, I can't get into the details of how much, but, yasss...I'm excited. Vixen is someone who has hardly any experience, but because she curses a lot on twitter, and acts like this bad a-word chick, everyone gravitates towards her. I'm pretty sure she'll rehash all of the things about me that everyone does. How companies close because of me, how what I've done in the past means nothing even though I've done way more than her. Its really the same old thing. She's BASIC.
Whoopi Goldberg: Basic? What do you mean by that?
Liz Smalls: It just means that she's not on my level. I'm not one to ignore what others have done elsewhere, but she's a follower. She's latched onto attacks directed my way from other wrestlers and that's the entire reason she hates me. Whatevs. As much as I loved ACE, this isn't the PLACE for that. This is New Edge. This is Madison Square Garden and she's stepping into the ring with a former world champion. I've been in big matches, this is going to be a shock for her.
Whoopi Goldberg: So you think that because its Madison Square Garden, the pressure is going to hurt your opponent?
Liz Smalls: DUH!
Liz looks annoyed at the question from Whoopi.
Liz Smalls: Not only just the fact that its MSG, but the crowd is going to be much larger overall. Its easy for someone to get on twitter and talk tough, its entirely different when we step in the ring and have to deal with thousands of eyes on us. When she looks at me across the ring and realizes that this isn't Phoenix, this isn't a few hundred people and that i'm NOT just some make believe monster from social media, that I'm a REAL WRESTLER, reality is going to SLAP her in the face. Or maybe that will just be me slapping her, but, yasss. You get the point.
Liz crosses her legs in her chair as she continues.
Liz Smalls: I've wrestled around the world. In this country, out of the country, title matches, non-title matches. In my first year in wrestling, I've literally been at the bottom and the top. I've experienced everything in between. That experience is going to help me defeat her on Tuesday night. As bad as people want her to beat me, she won't because she's not ready. She needs to get some experience outside of ACE before she tries picking a fight with someone like me. Its not just what moves you know that win matches, its how you react to everything around you. The pressure, the fans shouting things, the ability to NOT get nervous when all of those eyes are on you. I have the experience dealing with all of that and that gives me a serious edge over her.
Whoopi Goldberg: Well I'm no expert in wrestling, I'm the first to admit that but surely experience doesn't mean you are automatically going to win. Have you ever thought that maybe her hatred and aggression towards you could be enough to beat you?
Liz stares at Whoopi blankly for 15 seconds. Whoopi smiles and looks out at the audience and then back at Liz who is still just staring at her with a sneer of arrogance across her face.
Liz Smalls: You're right, you aren't an expert in wrestling. Luckily for me, I am. The aggression you mentioned that she probably has, can actually be her downfall. The thing about me, when I'm in the ring, I protect myself, I wrestle smart. A smart wrestler will beat an emotion driven, aggressive wrestler nearly every time.
Whoopi Goldberg: Why is this being promoted as a 'Special Grudge Match'? What makes it so personal that you guys get that special title attached to the match?
Liz takes a second to ponder the question before responding.
Liz Smalls: Because we don't like each other. I come from a different world than she does. I'm who she wants to be. I'm one inch taller, yasss I'm bragging about that. I'm prettier, people pay attention to me more, I have more experience, I've won more than her...its jealousy on her end. Call it petty or whatevs but its true. She doesn't like what I represent and I don't like what she represents. Not only that, but do you know how important this match is to both of us?
Liz pauses as the audience is now intently focused on the more serious than usual, Liz.
Liz Smalls: If Vixen can beat me, she gets the biggest win of her career. Forget beating Keegan Hightower, forget her other wins, social media will explode if she beats me, which gives her instant attention. She goes from being a name that some people know, to being a name that everyone knows and it starts her New Edge career off in the biggest way possible. And me? Why do I need this win? Because if I lose, I lose in the most famous arena in the world, in front of a huge audience. I myself have just signed a full time contract to the biggest company I've ever worked for, and New Edge having me is amazing for me too because the company is huge. I have to prove that I can beat people where it matters. I have to prove that key matches, like this one are one's that I show up prepared for. Its fun having big matches with a lot of buzz, but I've lost a lot of the really big ones. This is one that not only do I want, but I need.
Whoopi Goldberg: You mentioned being a former world champion, but looking at my notes here, it appears that Vixen has held a championship of her own. Is it possible you may have overlooked that?
Liz Smalls: No, I didn't OMG. I know she was the ACE Southwest Pacific champion, the first ever champion that is, but I was the FIRST and ONLY Uncensored Inc world champion. WORLD champion, not some southwest pacific regional thingy. That's the big difference in us. She's regional, local and I'm worldwide. We are in different categories. I respect her and what her future holds for her, but right now I'm not willing to lose to her. I can't, I WON'T lose. Oh and can you believe she wants me to fear her Vix kick thingy? Ummm why would I when I have the World Prettiest Dropkick?
The audience laughs for the first time in awhile at Liz's statement, which was much more traditional Liz than usual.
Whoopi Goldberg: Worlds Prettiest Dropkick? I won't even ask. We're almost out of time. I wanted to wish you good luck and remind everyone New Edge Wrestling Ignite featuring Liz Smalls against Vixen is this coming Tuesday, May 19th from Madison Square Garden. Is there anything else you wanted to say?
Liz Smalls: I would like to thank everyone who has been supporting me from day one. This match at New Edge is one of the biggest things I've ever done, and it only goes up from here. You won't be disappointed on Tuesday night, I can pinky promise that. I hope everyone tunes in!
Liz smiles as the audience begins to clap as the show fades out.
