The stage was set! Well, in this case, it was the table that had been set. Back in the Buchannan Compound, things were looking very festive. Denise was supervising her small kitchen staff as they prepared a lavish seating arrangement in the formal dining room of her very spacious Baton Rouge mansion.
Denise Buchannan: “Everything looks perfect.”
She mused as the staff made their finishing touches before disappearing back into the kitchen. Denise stood there, dressed in a floor length one shoulder dress made completely out of tight fitting black lace, her eyes taking in the long traditional dinner table and all of its intricate place settings.
Joining Denise in the formal dining room was Simon Taylor, father of Tegan Taylor and Denise’s soon to be groom. Simon was outfitted in a simple cream tuxedo with a turquoise tie and matching handkerchief placed neatly in his chest pocket.
Simon Taylor: “I can’t believe we pulled this off..I can’t believe both of our daughters will be sharing a civil meal with us.”
Denise tilted her head and smiled before approaching Simon before speaking while adjusting his tie.
Denise Buchannan: “I guess miracles really do happen.”
Just then, a young woman’s voice was heard in the distance:
“Helloooooo? I’m heeeeere!”
Simon Taylor: “We’re in here!” He called out.
Footsteps were heard clicking against the hardwood floor, drawing more and more near until Tegan herself made her entrance into the formal dining room.
Tegan Taylor: “Daddy!” She said before warmly embracing her father with a hug. After releasing it, she turned to Denise and smiled before approaching her and then the two of them hugged as well.
Denise Buchannan: “Oh thank you for coming!”
Tegan Taylor: “Are you kidding? I wouldnt have missed this for the world! I’m just sorry i’m so late.”
Denise Buchannan: “Oh it’s alright….”
Denise motioned for everyone to have a seat, and they all did near the end of the table.
Tegan Taylor: “What? But dinner was supposed to start an hour ago.”
Denise Buchannan: “I can’t say i’m surprised….i’d be shocked if she showed up at all.”
“Well then you better hold on to your socks….”
As if on cue, Blair made her way into the dining room at the opposite end of the long table. She was outfitted in a long white fur skinned coat, dazzling silver shimmering high heeled stilettos, and large black sunglasses.
Blair Buchannan-Valentyne: “Oh please, don’t get up.”
Tegan Taylor: “We...we weren’t going to?”
Simon Taylor: “Oh good, Blair, you made it. Why don’t you come have a seat with us so we can get dinner started?”
Blair Buchannan-Valentyne: “Ohhhh that isn’t neccessary...I won’t be staying long.”
Denise Buchannan: “What do you mean? Blair you said you would have dinner with us. Stop being so childish.”
Blair Buchannan-Valentyne: “I said I would make an appearance, which is what I am doing. Besides, I need to prepare for one of the most important matches of my career where I figure out a way to beat that little twit when she’s got my ex boyfriend on her side as the ref...I’m pretty sure that trumps sitting down with the likes of you three and pretending to be some perfect nuclear family.”
Simon Taylor: “Nobody is asking you to pretend...we just want our family together before your mother and I exchange vows.”
Blair paused for a moment as if she were thinking over what Simon had just said.
Blair Buchannan-Valentyne: “Hmm..You’ve got a point...family IS important...it’s everything wouldn’t you say so mama? Which reminds me….I hope you don’t mind but I invited a guest….ahem.”
Blair cleared her throat then. Moments later a very tall, caramel skinner man dressed sharply in a three piece suit. He looked oddly familiar, like he had these large brown eyes that reminded everyone in the room of someone they knew. Simon and Tegan looked puzzled but as Denise got a better look at the man it was clear to her that she looked as if she were seeing a ghost. The mystery man took a seat at the opposite end of the table, a seat where normally the patriarch would sit.
Mystery Man: “...Daddy’s home.”
XOXO
