The cars whizzed back and forth down the busy Cincinnati street as Drake Blake watched from his hotel window. He had his forearm pressed against the glass to support his body weight. He watched all the people on the sidewalk scurry around like little ants. The power of the Sickness was corrupting his mindset. He was beginning to have more and more sadistic thoughts as the days went on. The scary part to him was that he was starting to enjoy them, instead of fearing them.
The thoughts and feelings were so strong that they were beginning to cause Drake to suffer from a horrible case on Insomnia. He had not had a good night’s sleep in a week. The crow’s feet under his eyes were starting to set in heavily. Dark rings were beginning to settle around his eyes. He was exhausted on the inside, but the raw power of the Sickness was keeping him going. It was like fuel to his empty soul.
Drake could feel himself getting colder with every passing minute. It reminded him of his old self before meeting Patrick, Dave, or Franco. A time before he learned how to suppress the demonic being within him. He enjoyed feeling like this. The coldness took away the worry of having people like you, the worry of having to please everyone. This attitude helped him reach heights in his career that he could never do while trying to please everyone. This was a good feeling; a relieving feeling. For once Drake would not have to worry about looking after his partner’s back, he would not have to worry about keeping the crowd happy. He would only have to worry about himself for once.
Drake continued to look down on the people walking on the sidewalk. From the height of his hotel room they all looked like tiny insects on the ground. “I could squish all of you with ease,” Drake thought to himself, “They wouldn’t stand a chance.”
Drake’s strange thought was suddenly interrupted by a knock on his door. He had no idea who it could be. The only person that ever came to see him nowadays was his partner Patrick, but they had an agreement from when they first started wrestling together that when they faced each other they would not see or communicate with one another for that week.
Drake pushed off of the window with his forearm andlethargically walked over to the door. To his surprise the visitor was indeedhis tag team partner, Patrick Jones. Drake’s eyes squinted in a combined lookof astonishment and disappointment. “What are you doing here?” Drake said in acoldhearted manner unlike his usual joking personality.
“What, not happy to see me?” Patrick said making himself athome as usual as he pushed passed Drake and made his way to the bed. Patrickplopped down and crossed his feet with his arms behind his head for support.
“What happened to us swearing that we would not communicate,in any way, with one another on the weeks that we were wrestling each other?”Drake said shutting the door.
“Well when you didn’t talk to me for a week after yousnapped at me, I thought we could have a little chat,” Patrick said in a moreserious tone than before. Patrick was clearly worried about Drake, but The SickOne did not seem to care much about what his old friend cared about at themoment. “What’s going on Drake? Talk to me.”
“What is there to talk about?” Drake said going back to hisperch at the window and staring at the busy street.
Patrick could get the feeling that he was not wanted, butthat has never bothered Patrick before. Patrick was known for sticking aroundplaces where he was not liked. Patrick actually enjoyed that feeling, but notwhen it was his best friend. “What’s been up with you lately? You’ve just beenacting weird, like you’re hiding something. And do not try and act innocentDrake, I’ve known you too long to know when I am being lied to.”
“Excuse me for wanting my rightfully deserved spotlight foronce! Sorry I’m not going to be protecting you like I always do this week! I’msorry that I am going to be doing my own thing from now, without you,” Drakesaid as his eyes started to flare, but he took a deep breath and suppressedthem back to their normal blue state.
“You know you can’t make anything of yourself in thiscompany without me,” Patrick said staring towards Drake with a grin.
Before Patrick had a chance to even react, Drake lunged fromthe window grabbing Patrick by the collar of his shirt and slamming him upagainst the wall.,but that was just what Patrick had wanted, because Drake hadfallen for his little ploy. Patrick’s grin quickly faded when he looked intothe eyes of his friend. Drake’s eyes were glowing with blood red instead of themixture like it was last week. The Sickness was slowly spreading on the insideof Drake. Now Patrick knew for sure it was the Sickness because of the glow inhis eyes. The glow had always freaked Patrick out, but he needed to see them tobe sure.
“I don’t fucking need you!” Drake yelled in rage. TheSickness was amplifying his emotions, especially his anger
“The Sickness!” Patrick yelled as he pushed Drake away.“Give me back my friend! He had already defeated you once!”
“What do you mean Patty? I am Drake. There is no possessionlike the last time the Sickness sparked up. This is all voluntary,” Drake saidwith an evil grin.
Patrick’s eyes widened in horror, he could not believe thatDrake would let the Sickness overtake him voluntarily. “You’re a liar! I knowhow manipulative you are, but Drake would never let you out!”
“I would and I did. At first I was headstrong about ignoringthe Sickness and leaving it in the back of my mind, but then we had a conversationand began talking more and more. Over the past few weeks the Sickness has beena better friend than you have been in the past few years! The Sickness hasgiven me power and with this power I will be unstoppable in my career,” Drakesaid sadistically.
“Drake? Why? You were dead set against him earlier! Don’tlet him trick you. Don’t let him take over,” Patrick pleaded with his friend.
“Shut up! You’re only afraid of my true potential with thispower. I can feel it surging through me. I will be unstoppable soon, and thereis nothing you can do about it,” Drake said before laughing maniacally.
“I helped you stop it once before and I can do it again. Iknow this is not the real Drake that I know, the one who had helped me in theworst of times and the one who I have helped as well. We are a team Drake!”Patrick yelled in anger. The Sickness was taking his best friend away from himagain and he could not stand it any longer. “Damn it Drake! Come to your sensesalready! You are not evil like that demon inside of you, he is onlymanipulating you.”
“You’re wrong Patty,” Drake said demonically, “This hasalways been me…I have always been a demon that has been locked inside of hiscage and couldn’t get out because I was too busy doing what I was told to do,but no more! I am done listening to anyone. I am only here for destruction andsuccess…Nothing more.”
Patrick was at a loss for words for the first time in hislife. He could not believe that this was actually his friend. Yes the Sicknesswas manipulating him, but at the same time this was still Drake’s truefeelings, or so it seemed. “We’ll see about that, Drake…I’ll stop you in thering. I’ll even take out Lost in Time by myself if it means having you one onone.”
“Lost in Time…That poor soul. He has never been in the ringwith a power like mine. I do not care how much experience he has. Nothing cancompare to facing the power of my Sickness for the first time,” Drake said withan evil grin. “Now get out Patrick…You need to prepare. You need to prepare forthe worst experience of your life! You thought Sick was bad by himself…Now weare combined. Now are one. We are unstoppable.”
Patrick’s eyes were staring dead straight into the blood redeyes of his friend. He was afraid of the fire growing inside of Drake, but itseemed it had already turned into a wildfire. That was fine by him…Drake’s firehas already lit a fire in Patrick’s heart. Patrick needed to save his bestfriend and he was not going to quit until it killed him…Which it just might, but Drake was like a brother to Patrick and Patrick would do anything to himback. “See ya at Ignite,” Patrick said sternly before calmly walking out of theroom.
As the door slammed shut, the Sickness came back to theforefront of Drake’s mind, “So…What is your game plan for this match? I knowyou want to run in guns blazing, but Patrick will be expecting that from youand you have never faced Lost in Time before.”
“I don’t know…I would say get rid of Lost in Time so I canfocus on Patrick, but he is going to be a hard obstacle to budge. He’s biggerthan both Patrick and I. Patrick is going to have the same idea as me…I know hewill want us all to himself,” Drake said as he was trying to think about whatto do.
“I say let those bastards fight it out themselves. We canjust wait in the background for the victor of those two, and sneak into thevictory. It will be easy,” The Sickness hissed in Drake’s mind.
“You know that I can’t do that…I live for the action and adrenalinerush. I can’t just sit and watch them go at it and then slip in with anInfection. I thought you wanted destruction and pain anyway,” Drake questionedthe Sickness.
“I promised you victory in exchange for working together,Drake. This is a way that I can fulfill my promise, but as you wish. But, weshall take out Lost in Time first because I want to see that tiny insect,Patrick Jones, squirm in pain by our doing,” The Sickness said evilly.
“There is one problem with that,” Drake said as he went tothe window and leaned on it again looking down at the street, “Patrick knowsall of my moves like the back of his hand and he knows exactly when I want touse them. We have studied each other endlessly and we seem to have this bondwhen it comes to wrestling that we just know what one another is going to do…Itis why we were such a good team.”
“I have an idea about that, but you’re going to have totrust me,” The Sickness hissed slowly.
“What is it?” Drake asked hesitantly. The Sickness has beentrue to his word lately, but trusting him was not Drake’s forte.
“Let me take full control during the match. Patrick knowswhat you will do, but he will never know what I will do. He knows how you work, but not me. And don’t worry about me not letting you back out. I am not strongenough to hold you back at the moment. This can only help you. If you don’tlike something that I do then you can jump back in the driver’s seat. This planis fool proof,” Sick said energetically.
Drake was not sure about this. Drake was pushing it byletting the Sickness’ power out, but letting Sick run rampant? “I don’t knowabout this,” Drake said nervously. Drake had enjoyed being in control of thepower, and he did not know if the Sickness could fully be trusted outside.
“Don’t you want to crush Patrick? Don’t you want to defeatLost in Time? Don’t you want to go to Terrordome? Then you have to let me be incontrol just this one time!” The Sickness yelled in Drake’s mind. “Remember whocause you your sufferings lately…Patrick Jones. He is the one that cost youyour second match in NEW, he broke your ankle in the past and it was tweakedduring your match! Remember who has been taking all the credit for your hardwork and is calling himself the captain of the team! It is Patrick! No one caninflict the pain and suffering on him that he deserves like I can. Let mefinish him off once and for all. You will never have to hear the name PatrickJones ever again!”
The words of the Sickness started to flutter around Drake’smind. The Sickness was right, or so Drake thought. The Sickness was trying tomake Drake angry, because the power of the Sickness amplified Drake’s emotionsand if Drake was angry enough he would do anything to rip Patrick to shreds. “It’sa deal!” Drake said confidently as he slowly tilted his head up towards thecloudy Cincinnati sky.
“Then let’s do it!” The Sickness said, ready to transfer hisbeing into Drake’s body. Drake screamed in pain and gripped the sides of hishead. The room started to shake from the sheer power of the Sickness. There wasa crash behind Drake as the lamp fell off of the table, but Drake wascompletely oblivious to anything at the moment. The pain was almost too muchfor the hardcore maniac to handle.
After a few moments Drake’s screams stopped abruptly as hefell to his knees. A devilish grin formed on his face as he looked back uptowards the cloudy sky. Drake started a high pitched yet demonic laugh as herose to his feet. “It’s been so long since I have been able to move freely inthis world!” Drake’s body said. The voice was not Drake’s…The Sickness hadtaken control of his body. Now Drake was in the mental prison that the Sicknessusually stays in, except the difference was Drake had the key to it. Drakecould over power the Sickness and take control at any moment. For the first time…Drakefelt safe with the Sickness. “This is going to be fun!”
The Sickness took Drake’s body and opened the window of thehotel room. He leaped out and caught himself on the ledge of the building nextto it. As he heaved himself up he began running and leaping from building tobuilding. The Sickness was finally free and had its sights set on PatrickJones, and if Lost in Time tried to get in the way he would be annihilated.
