Kronin turned and grinned, seeing Kief enter with the steel chair. The big man was getting frustrated and Kronin was about to make him pay for it. Kief lifted and swung for Kronin, but the crafty Veteran moved out of the way and a split second later, the chair rebounded off the ropes and cracked Kief in the face. Kronin smirked. He had the man now. Booting Kief in the gut, he heard the chair land on the mat. A few seconds later, Kief’s face was driven into the steel chair as Kronin improvised instead of using one of his normal finishers.
Three seconds later, Kronin had his first ever title in New Edge Wrestling.
Of course, the downside was that as soon as Kronin got up, he could hear Lilly yelling. As he turned around, the last thing he saw was an angry KOP swinging a steel chair, the blow catching him right in between the eyes. Then he saw the lights as he landed flat on his back. He was sure KOP said something but hell if he could make out what. He saw KOP hold the TV title belt up and drop it on Kronin’s chest. that message was clear. Lilly came in a few seconds after he left and Kronin rolled over and got up, picking up the title and narrowing his eyes.
“Mr. Andrews wants a war. Time to give him a war.” He said as he and Lilly went to the backstage area. Of course, Kronin had struck back, escalating the war and costing KOP a match. As Ignite ended, Kronin sighed and walked out of the showers to find Lilly waiting there with her arms crossed over her chest.
“So... do you sneak attack people now? What happened to your codes and honor? What happened to the man who’d rather lose a match than cheat?” Kronin grabbed a towel and dried himself off, sighing again. “Jesse and KOP started this war. I’m getting tired of being pushed around. In a war, surprise attacks are fair game. Its time KOP learned to look over his damn shoulder a bit.” Kronin said as he walked over and began to get dressed. As he packed up his gear bag, turning to look at Lilly, he saw her with a concerned look on her face as she looked over her client and boyfriend. “Babe... just be careful. Its a slippery slope and I just don’t wanna see you sacrifice who are to get ahead in this business.”
Kronin paused and glanced at the floor deep in thought. Finally, he sighed and nodded, Lilly had a point after all and no one knew that better than Kronin. Putting his hand on her shoulder, he smiled and nodded. “Don’t worry. I needed KOP to know his actions have a consequence. I need to put him on the defensive and see how he reacts.” Lilly nodded and the two headed out of the arena and into the night..
A couple of days later saw Kronin and Lilly in New York City. Lilly was out in Times Square preparing things for Kronin’s arrival at a New Edge sponsored event. As for Kronin, he was doing his best Batman, standing out on the Empire State Building, looking out over the City of New York. Over his shoulder was the New Edge TV title belt. It was amazing. After a year of fighting, he had finally gotten his first title. His thoughts on more were interrupted as he glanced over his shoulder and noticed Father Nathan walking up next to him, a smirk on his face and Nathan’s right hand playing with a coin, rolling it around in his knuckles as he looked to Kronin. Kronin sighed in annoyance. “What do you want?!” He said. Father Nathan smirked and shrugged. “That’s what I was going to ask you. What do you want?” He waves his hand over the people walking around below. “How many of them do you think are worthy of your codes of honor and conduct? Do you know how many of them would laugh at your codes of honor? There’s a woman down there. She drank coffee two tables away from me and within 5 minutes talked to both her husband and the man she’s cheating on her husband with. Will you be her champion?
What about the rest of the hypocrites, Kronin? You heard Brother Seth. The same man you’re facing this week? You heard what he said about these people? They’re enablers. You think they care about you? I’ve fought Seth Iser before. He nearly killed me. How many people do you think cared? Sent cards? Any of that shite? Not. A. Damn. One. See Kronin... that’s the secret. You’re only a hero as long as you win.. and every time you win, they continue their enabling. Adding more pressure. Sooner or later, even the strongest foundation crumbles under the pressure. Once you do.. those ingrates down there will turn on you.”
Kronin looked out over the city. This was an argument that he had heard before. Many times, in fact. And every time he heard it, it proved to be bullshit. Finally, Kronin took in a deep breath and glanced at Nathan. “We’ll see. In the meantime, if you don’t plan to help me, I suggest leaving. If Dixie visits and sees you, she’s liable to throw your ass off this building.”
Father Nathan, for his part, smirked and nodded. “Brother Seth, like myself, is upset with the hypocrisy and oppression of so called civilized society.. You, as a former soldier represent everything he hates. Conformity. Law and Order. More than that, you’re a hero. The sheep cheer for you and make you their champion. He will come at you with everything he has..” Nathan points to the scar on his neck. “Everything. As for Sister Dixie... Perhaps she should remind herself that the path I’m on now is the same one both of her treasured mentors, Audrie and Eric, have walked. Maybe she should reconsider where she wants to be.”
Kronin raised an eyebrow and looked the man he once called friend over. “Won’t Seth have a problem with you helping me?” Nathan smirked. “Maybe. But its not exactly like I gave you the playbook to beating the man. If you can find a way to beat him from what little I gave you? Fair play to you. Think about my question. What do you want, Kronin?”
Kronin frowned as he looked out over the city of New York and sighed. “KOP and Jesse Styles. I want to teach them a lesson in humility and where their limits are. I want to help my friends in United. Got a plan to help with that?”
Father Nathan nodded. “In a way. Just remember, that the people consider you a hero and everyone from the Greeks to the Romans to the Vikings and a host of other cultures have made it clear that heroes pay a terrible price to be what they are. Ask yourself, my friend, are these... rodents really worth the time and effort?”
Kronin nodded. “I’ll pay the price. Tell your buddy to get ready for me.”
Nathan smiled and nodded. “As you say. See you later, Brother Kronin. Hopefully not at your funeral.” He says as he backs up and leaves. Kronin watches him leave and smirks as an idea comes to him. Looking back out over the city one final time, Kronin pats his belt and nods, turning and leaving as well.
Kronin made his way to Times Square and met up with Lilly. He smiled and waved her over and nodded. “Get the cameras ready. I got something to say.” Lilly gave Kronin a confused look, but went ahead and readied the cameras for whatever Kronin had in mind. Kronin, meanwhile, stood and prepared himself mentally for what was coming. It was time to announce his arrival as one of the power players in New Edge Wrestling.
As the cameras came on, Kronin smiled and adjusted the TV title on his shoulder. Behind him, stood the famous landmark of Times Square. He glances behind him and takes in the view for a moment before looking back into the camera and smiling.
“Hello New Edge Fans. I believe a certain loudmouth asked me who the hell I am? Well, my name’s Kronin and I’m the New Edge Television Champion. I’m also a member of United. KOP? Not so fun when you’re the one being ambushed, is it? First and only warning... KOP and Jesse Styles... I’m comin’ for you. You two are caught up in a war that you can’t win.
But I have something planned for this show for you two. More immediately, let me talk about my opponent this week, Seth Iser. Jesse has run out of little bitch moves to pull on me so he’s hoping Seth Iser, the so called monster that is Seth Iser, can soften me up for KOP at the Pay Per View. So... I suppose I’ll address Seth Iser.
Seth, you claim to hate civilization. These people. The way modern life works. But while you’re pulling your own version of Phantom of the Opera sans beautiful girl and... likely sans a good singing voice too, wandering around the sewer with your pet rats, you forgot something. We’re not in the Matrix or anything like that. Your perception of reality doesn’t make it so. Okay, you had a bad childhood. Guess what? So did I. Difference between us? I grew up and moved on. You? You’re like the little kid in the supermarket, throwing a temper tantrum because he can’t get that toy he simply MUST have.”
Kronin pauses a moment and thinks for a second, coming up with a better metaphor and smirks.
“Actually, you’re like that little emo kid whining and crying. You whine and cry and make a bunch of noise but do you even know what you’re whining about? We get it, dude. You’re different and some narrow minded people where you born didn’t like that. It sucks dude. No doubt about it. But rather than handle things like... say, an adult. You bitch and moan, and go looking for trouble. You like to insult people for being heroes? Well...”
Kronin glances at his title and nods, turning to look back to the camera.
“I happen to be a champion. I also happen to dig the people here. Jesse Styles, I suppose is trying to play into your stereotype, using you to do his dirty work. That leaves you with a question. Do you play the hypocrite and be his hired thug? Do you do the same thing but claim you’re cool and your own person, Raging against the Machine? Or do you truly think for yourself and the two of us meet in the ring and find out who the better fighter is? If try to take me out... you’ll find that my people are good at killing monsters and it’ll take more than a human skull and sewer rats to scare me. Think long and hard about this, dude. This is one of those choices that’ll have repercussions. Make the wrong one... and you’ll find out why they call me the German Suplex Machine.”
The camera segment ends and Kronin walks over past Lilly who stops him. “Whoa. That was awesome, babe... where’d that come from?” Kronin shrugged and smiled. “It needed to be said. I might win this match, I might lose. But win, lose, or draw... Seth Iser will know he was in a fucking fight!” Kronin said as they headed to their hotel room. Lilly following behind. “You know Jesse still isn’t paying for our hotel rooms, right?”
Kronin grins. “I know. Our money will hold out for a bit longer.” Lilly nods. “Babe... if Jesse keeps this going much longer...” Kronin sighs and glances at the TV title. “All the more reason to hold on to this belt... we need all the money we can get...”
Three seconds later, Kronin had his first ever title in New Edge Wrestling.
Of course, the downside was that as soon as Kronin got up, he could hear Lilly yelling.
