Walking down the streets of Uniondale, New York on this mild Wednesday Morning alongside Alisha, I try to gain my bearings, having just flown into Uniondale from Toronto at about nine thirty p.m last night. My body is still somewhat sore from the events that occurred at the previous IGNITE card, but that's something to be expected whilst I'm still getting used to the wrestling business.
It's not easy to recover from a physical encounter like the one that I had against Morgan, Cassidy, Denny Doods and Ms Usa and I don't think anyone would expect me to be 100% only a couple of days after the fact none the less.
Alisha's black tight-fitting singlet, black gymnastic style tights and white converse shoes are a contrast to my white shirt, white gym style tracksuit pants and black Nike shoes and have gotten her a few looks from guys, but she has given them all the "cold shoulder", considering the fact she's loyal to me and uninterested in anyone else.
Jacob: "It's all a blur to me still."
Alisha looks at me, her facial expression showing that she doesn't quite know what I'm talking about, still being a blur to me. I look at her, with a slight smile to try and show her that I mean my first ever NEW match.
Alisha: "It would be, Jacob. You went through a lot physically during the match and almost collapsed into my arms at the end. You may not have gotten the win, but you definitely proved that you are the future of the wrestling business. Not just in Canada, but the entire world."
Jacob: "Not just that, but also the fact that I managed to make an impact on the NEW alongside my new friend and stable mate Blitz, when we attacked Jesse Styles. It's an amazing feeling and gives me even more motivation to go out there and show everybody that I'm not just "one and done", but here for the long haul."
Alisha looks at me, with a look that shows me that she's just as happy for me, as I am for myself after manging to make an impact in what was my first ever professional event.
We continue to walk, both trying to get our heads around the sights and sounds that Uniondale has to offer, whilst knowing that we're only here until the event finishes before heading off to the next event's location.
It sucks, but it's a part of being a wrestler.
Alisha: "Not just all of that, but the fact that Tess had her first baby on Monday and the flight to and from Toronto would've taken a lot out of you too. It's something that we'll have to manage during your career, but I know that we can. There's no one that I know that's as motivated and driven to succeed as you are, which is a trait that you've always had. It's something that attracted me to you when we first met."
I can't help but smile and laugh at that comment by Alisha, but deep down: I know it's true. I push myself to mental and psychical limits in order to attempt to succeed, and wrestling is no different in my eyes.
Jacob -laughing-: "Yeah, flying to Toronto did take a bit out of me, but it's nothing I can't manage. As Chris told me though: if you're not trying to succeed, then why are you even trying at all? Success should ALWAYS be the ultimate goal, no matter what it is you're doing."
"No matter how successful I want to be, I know it won't come easy. That's why I'm always pushing myself and testing my own limits," I think to myself, knowing that is indeed the case.
Alisha: "This week won't be any easier for you in the ring though, considering that you're booked in a fatal-four way, against TEK, Samuel Sampson and Steve Thomas, who are all very talented wrestlers."
I look at her, slightly nervous but trying to hide it behind a smile.
All I can think of is "Challenges are what make people stronger. They're what give you the best chance to prove yourself, so you have to take them as they come,".
Jacob: "Yeah, I know it won't be easy but it's something that simply comes with the job. Wrestling isn't about the easy wins, because they don't prove much in the end. It's what you do in the challenging encounters that defines who you are and last week was just the beginning of me showing that I belong here. I managed to fight and battle during the match, and despite not being able to win the match, I KNOW that everyone knows now, they have to look out for me in the future and I can promise you that TEK, Samuel and Steve will be studying me and trying to work out how to best combat what I do in the ring, just like I'll be figuring out how to best counter-act what their strengths are."
Alisha: "I know, and that's something that is easier said than done though. All three men will be looking to prove a point, just like you'll be looking to prove a point and they will go to any limits in order to prove that. Even if it means seriously injuring you in the match."
I look at her, nodding slightly and knowing fully that he will go to any limits he deems they will need to, in order to get this win and continue on their path to the championship gold that we all crave.
After all, every single person who steps between the ropes, wants to become a champion at some point in their career. Steve, TEK and Samuel is no different, just like I am no different.
Jacob: "Yeah, and it's a risk that I have to take if I am to win this match. Weakness is something that I cannot show, if I intend to stand a chance against opponents like Samuel, Steve and TEK, and I hope that they know that they can't show any against me either. I might only be eighteen years of age, and in my second professional match ever but that won't stop me from giving them more than what they can handle when it comes to a fight. It won't stop me from going out there and not just dictating the terms, but isolating them and ensuring that there's no way back into the match when I take control."
Alisha: "That's smart thinking Jacob, although all three men are good enough athletes to go out there and and can dictate the terms of the match. That's something you will have to quickly combat if you're to stand a chance at defeating them this week. You also have to deal with the Jesse factor, as he might look to influence the outcome in one way or another."
I slightly swallow my saliva, as I nod, knowing that Jesse could easily try to come out and interrupt me at some point during the match but that's something I'll deal with if/when it happens.
It's no use worrying about that now, when it hasn't even happened yet.
Jacob: "I know that, but it's something that will only stand as a road block. Something that I'll ensure doesn't deter me from gaining this victory, so that I can see the surprise on Jesse's face when he realizes that I might just be stronger than the "little kid" that he believes I am."
Alisha smiles at me, not one bit surprised at how confident I am about dealing with not only my opponents, but Jesse too.
Alisha: "I know you can handle it Jacob, it's just about going out there and showing everyone else that you can."
Jacob: "I know."
We then keep walking past everyone else and deep in discussion about the match.
Talk can be cheap.
Actions are forever.
Game on.[/b]
