The weekend had been a total bust as far as Blitz Price was concerned: despite squashing Tek the Wildcard with one deft move, he saw himself disrespected by both commentators, the ring announcer, and the fans in what wound up being little more than a light workout for the second generation NEW star. Things didn’t really bode any better for him later in the evening when he finally got his opportunity to confront Jesse Styles regarding his father’s disappearance as he and fellow NEWcomer Jacob Neal fell for one of the oldest tricks in the book: the quick retreat to set up a backstage ambush. A rookie mistake sure, but a costly one: he led his only friend in the entire company right into the lion’s den and both men were torn apart by Jesse Styles and KOP’s counterattack.
Despite all of these things, there was something, rather someone, else burning on his mind………..
"Kodiak" Kody Gordert.
“Why Kody, why?” Blitz continued to ask himself as he flew back to Knoxville late Sunday night. He had barely disembarked at McGhee-Tyson Airport in Alcoa when he realized it was already Monday morning and that by the time he took a cab back to campus, he’d barely have time to shower and gather his books before his morning Criminology class would be beginning.
“Another groggy Monday morning! I just hope I can stay awake in class this time……….”
The grueling pace of his triple life was swiftly taking a toll on the young college student: class, football, wrestling, the search………..they were making a 21 year old kid feel more like a 71 year old man. Now he could tack Kody Gordet’s unprovoked assault onto that laundry list of things that was weighing down on him. Had it been one of Jesse’s goons it would have been simple: the guy’s just acting on The Boss’s orders. For it to be Kody though, a man Blitz nor his father had ever crossed paths with before, that was what made it so mysterious…………..
Monday morning swiftly became Monday afternoon before Blitz had even realized it: his professor’s lecture had went in one ear and out the other without even the slightest bit of information sinking in. His mind was still focused on Kody the Klepto and his unwanted post-match presence: everything else was just noise. With lunch time finally upon him, the younger Price thought that maybe a little fresh air would help him clear his head……….
After walking down the Cumberland Avenue strip, Price took a side trip down 15th Street to Volunteer Park: a local city park located on campus. Perhaps the innocence of watching health nuts try to jog away the pounds, yuppies walking their ankle dogs, and children at play would help him to ease his mind : that, and listening to a little Guns-N-Roses on his iPod.
Once he sat down on the park bench though, his body had other plans. The past few days had all been “go, go, go!” for him with little time to just sit down and catch his breath. From a Saturday afternoon Spring Practice, straight to the airport for Philadelphia that evening, a little nap in a hotel room, Ignite, and then back on the plane for class Monday morning. He never even got his iPod out of his pocket before he found himself closing his eyes and drifting off to dream…………..
Before he knew what was happening he saw a 7 year old version of himself out on his elementary school playground.
.........Little Mikey, Kody, Jesse,Hunter, and Parky all gathered around a huge jungle gym preparing for a dangerous game of King of the Mountain.
“The rules of the game are really simple.” Young Jesse said as the game was set to begin.
“I’ll climb up the monkey bars and be King first. Kody and Hunter will be my guards and one will climb halfway up the front and the other halfway up the back. Mikey, you and Parky have to climb up, get past my guards, and push me off the top and then you get to be the new King.”
“How do you win?” Parky asked. The four boys didn’t really care much for Parky and thought he was too much of a whiny little bitch to play anyway. Unbeknownst to him, the only reason they even included him in the game was for a chance to push him down and make him cry like a girl.
“I JUST TOLD YOU, PARKY!!!!”
“For the last time, my name is Mikey!!!”
“We already HAVE a Mikey, so you’ve gotta be Parky or you can go back to playing by yourself on the baby swings!”
“FINE!!!!”
“Now, the last one to be King when the bell rings or the teacher paddles us is the winner.” Jesse finally replied.
Young Jesse began his ascent and in a matter of seconds took his perched position at the top, solidifying himself as the King. Once he was in position, his Elite Guard followed him right up: with Kody taking the front guard position and Hunter taking the rear.
“Okay wiseasses, if you’re man enough to overthrow the King, start climbing!”
“Wait a minute, Jesse……….” Little Mikey said as the new kid, Jacob, came running over toward the gang.
“THAT’S KING JESSE, PEASANT!”
“Fine! King Jesse, a new contender wants to challenge for the throne atop the mountain?”
WHAT?”
“Can Jacob play?”
“Fine…….may he who wishes to challenge for the Throne, make the climb!”
“Stick with me, Jacob. You can be on my team,” Young Mikey said to the new kid.
Little Mike Parky would be the first to attempt the climb. Although Mikey and Jacob insisted that the three of them all try to go at the same time, Parky pushed them away and let them know quickly that HE was going up that mountain first!! After scouting the structure for just a moment, he started up the front but then shimmied his way around to the back in an attempt to fake out both the guards. Unfortunately, his strategy failed: Hunter was waiting for him on the back side.
Little Hunter climbed up four rungs and kicked Parky in the forehead with all his might: forcing him to instinctively let go of the bars and clutch his throbbing skull. With his hands now off the structure, Hunter locked his feet in position to steady himself and gave Little Parky the shove he needed to force him to tumble off the twelve foot high jungle gym; hitting his head every third bar on the way downward.
“Boohoooooohooooohooooooo waaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! You just wait till………..sniff sniff, I tell Principal Hametic and Mister Brinegar!!!!!!!!!!!! You won’t get recess again for a whole year!!!!!!!!!!”
“Jesse!!!!!!!!!!!!”
“THAT’S KING JESSE!!!!!!”
“Fine. King Jesse, that little whiny bitch is gonna go tell on us!!! We won’t get recess again for the rest of the year!!!”
“Fine….Royal Guard Hunter, as King I hereby decree----------”
Not waiting around to hear the rest, Little Hunter hopped off the monkey bars and began to chase after Little Parky; who was still crying like a bitch.
“that you chase down and fetch the treacherous, conniving----”
“He’s already got him, your majesty!” Little Kody replied.
"It looks like Hunter's beating the daylights out of him!!!"
“Very well then, subjects. Doest anyone else wisheth to challenge for the royal throne atop the regal mountain?”
“Let’s do it, Mikey. Together.”
The team of Little Mikey and Little Jacob started up Hunter’s now unoccupied Rear Side, forcing little Kody to shimmy along the bars in much the same way Parky did.
Once he reached the back side, he was just quick enough to catch Mikey’s ankle, as Jacob had already passed him by. The grasp caught Little Mikey by surprise and was followed by a yank on his leg……….a yank which caused Mikey to slip and himself start falling off the mountain.
Once he hit the ground and landed flat on his back, he felt tears welling up in his eyes from the pain but refused to let his schoolyard friends see him cry.
The now enraged Mikey reached down into the soft ground and picked up a handful of mud, molded it into a ball, and nailed Little Kody right between the eyes with it! Once the blinded Kody, started losing his footing, Mikey began scaling the monkey bars with the speed and precision of a real monkey: climbing higher and higher until he reached the summit, where the new kid had already began trying to push King Jesse off the top.
“Hang in there, Jacob!!! I’m coming!!!!”
The two kids pushed and pushed but King Jesse pushed back with all of his might: doing his best to hold his own as well as his balance. After what seemed like an eternity for the three boys, King Jesse began to lose his footing………….
"Sir??? Sir? SIR!!!!!!! THIS PARK IS CLOSED! YOU NEED TO MOVE ON!!!"
Blitz awakened to see Campus Police in his face screaming for him to wake up and leave the park: treating him like a common vagrant. Not one to start a ruckus with Johnny Law, Blitz gathered his things and began to walk across campus back toward his dorm room. As he passed Rocky Top Books, the meaning of his dream slapped him in the face like an Asain chick in a Bukkake video:
When you're trying to climb life's mountains, someone will always be trying to push you off. When you do take a tumble, you can either cry like a little bitch, or you can get up, dust yourself off, and start fighting dirty!!!!
Upon finally reaching his dorm room, one more revelation struck him: his iPod was missing.
"Is Gordert in town? Did that little klepto bitch steal my iPod??"
Did Kodiak Kody take Blitz's iPod?
Will Blitz's search for PsYcho ever end??
Does 2+2 actually equal Potato???
If The Waffle House is open 24/7/365, why are there locks on the doors?
All this and more next week as we are........
..............to be continued.
Until that day, until all are one.
