The year was flying as April was fast approaching. The life of Renegade was becoming more and more hetic each day that they were simply not enough hours to cover everything. He had media events, ranging from interviews to promoting New Edge. He'd begun negotitating with New Edge regaridng some Renegade merchandise. He's been spending time with his ever increasingly happy family, which was still his biggest concern, no matter how busy he got, he made sure to find the time to spend with them, although he certainly paid for these instances after falling asleep in a number of strange locations, including a back of a taxi and one unfortunate time when he somehow managed to fall asleep in the elevator, spending the next few hours, moving up and down between floors.
Sleep wasn't just the only thing on Renegade's mind at the moment, after getting a very public dressing down by Jesse Styles during Ignite, Renegade had somehow wrangled his way into an improv class which he certainly wasn't looking forward to, but for the most part, he seemed to be on good terms with Jesse and he wanted things to remain that way. It was always nice to stay on the good side of the boss, no matter what your job was. Renegade as due to start this improv class later in the afternoon, but for the time being he had another matter to attend too.
Renegade was in hospital, but for once he wasn't a patient. His bruises were healing up and surprisingly he felt fit and healthy for once. Renegade usually hated hospitals but he had to admit it was a nice feeling knowing he didn't have to stay and he was there off his own free will. He was hoping it would be a quick visit, he just had to check on someone, scanning round, it took him a few minutes to find the person he was looking for, a doctor who he'd met a few nights earlier when he accompanied a woman he'd found.
"Doctor?"
"Can I help you sir?"
"Listen, a few days back I came here with a woman. Kate her name was, Cuts and bruises, I came in the ambulance with her, I'm just wondering how she is."
"Ah yes I remember you now. The young lady was discharged yesterday."
Discharged, that wasn't good, he wanted at least to see if she was okay. He took a glance at his watch. Wondering if he had the time to go and see her, wherever she was
"Did she tell you where she was going. I want to know if she's okay."
"I'm afraid I can't tell you anymore. Patient confidentiality and all that. I'm sorry."
"I know its confidential but she was in a real bad way and she wouldn't say what happened to her"
"You're not a relative or next of kin, so I'm sorry again, but I can't tell you anything. More than my jobs worth."
This guy was a total jobsworth. To hell with confidentiality. Renegade was the one who found her, If he hadn't off anything might of happened to her. Surely he derserved a little bit of peace of mind. Renegade was getting slightly frustrated. Another look at his watch.
"No I'm not a relative but I'm the one who found her on the street. Who knows what might of happened to her if we hadn't of got her here. It was scary."
"Again sir, I'm sure the young lady is very happy you brought her in but as I mentioned, I can't tell you anything."
"Okay okay I get it you can't tell me but atleast, tell me, was she okay when she left. Everything cool with her."
"As far as I could tell, yes she looked better, had a few days to heal up and she was on her way. Now, if you please excuse me, I have other patients to attend to."
"Yeah, thanks doc."
Well that was a total waste of time in which Renegade could of spent elsewhere, Perhaps even in the gym preparing for his upcoming tag team match. He had to admit he wasn't fond of teaming. He worked much better by himself where his fate was in his own hands, he didn't like the idea of relying on other people. Renegade turned, making for the hospital exit, still annoyed witht he jobsworth doctor not telling him a thing. He pushed threw a set of double doors, into the car park. Making his way to his car, his phone began to ring. Looking at the caller ID, he would answer as he entered the car.
"Any word on the girl?"
"Nah mate they wont tell me anything cuz I'm not family. I just hope she'e okay. She looked a right mess when we found her."
"Don't worry about it mate, ya did the right thing in getting her to the hospital, after that your done. Now don't forget mate you have that class to attend, shouldn't you be on your way?"
He was only doing this to keep Jesse happy. In all honesty it was something he could really do without doing. Time could be spent better than trying to be entertaining. Why couldn't Jesse just let him be Renegade? A solid wrestler who was doing his upmost to have a credible X Core title reign.
"Honestly I don't even feel like doing it man. Complete waste of time. So Jesse is pissed and he says I'm losing ratings, I'm not a showman, never have been. I'm more about getting my job done. If the fans and viewers aren't taking to me, what am I supposed to do. Change myself to appeal to others. Then I wouldn't be Renegade, would I?"
"What can ya do though mate, just make the effort at least, try the class once at least, you never know you might even enjoy it."
"I feel like I'm gonna walk in there, see a bunch of idiots all sat in a circle, and I'm just gonna walk out. Wasting ma time with this shit. Just want to finish it quick."
"Well hurry up and get there mate, the teacher will be calling the register."
"Huh, not funny mate."
"And just you remember, if the bigger boys start picking on you. Make sure you tell the teacher okay."
"I'll damn well start picking on you when I get home."
Renegade hung up, started his car and went on his way, the short journey to his improv class, the words from his friends serving some much needed humour although his jokes weren't that funny, Renegade had been the butt of many jokes over the past week after news of the improv class was leaked. In all Renegade counted several hundred jokes which had been made at his expense over the past week. In the past he may have acted negatively to these happenings, but these days Renegade was of the philosophy that "If people are talking about him, it just means they aren't talking about anybody else."
It was only a five minute journey so a short time later, Renegade found himself in yet another car park outside a bulding, he put on a cap in hope fof keeping a low profile before entering the building. Inside he went were a group of around twenty people were already inside. He took a quick glance around, looking for an empty spot to sit. Thankfully the corner was free. He hurried to his feet barely getting time to sit down when he heard the door open again and a familair voice.
"Afternoon class, I'm Kate and I'll be teaching you today."
"Heh"
Renegade turned around and to his surprise, it was her. Kate. The woman who he escorted to the hospital just a few days earlier. Well at least she looked better this time. The bruises had healed and she wasn't shaken. She actually looked rather pretty, but this had to be one of the biggest coincidences of all time, after thinking he's never see this woman again, here she was about to teach him how to improvise.
"So before we begin, I'd like to take a second to go around the room and ask you all why you're here and what you hope to achieve from this class. Let's start with Leo, can you. Is he here?"
"Yup I'm here."
She turned a bright shade of red, now noticing who indeed Leo was. Renegade played this cool, like it was the first time they met, the last thing he wanted to do was to embarass her, afterall she was a teacher and he for the next hour at least, was a student
"Ooooohhhh, there you are, so err....errrr yyyeah, why are you here and what do you hope to achieve?"
"I'm here becuase my boss practically told me I'm boring and I had to do something to become more entertaining so I guess I'm hear to learn how to entertain."
"Oh....okay well I hope you can achieve that here."
As she took the rest of the names of the class, Renegade couldn't stop looking at her, how stunning she looked, how graceful she walked and talked, such a change from that other night when she sat on the curb, bloody and bruised, cold and disorientated.
"Well lets try something then, I need a volunteer. Anybody."
"I guess everyone is a little shy today, I promise I don't bite.
"I'll do it."
Renegade didn't think she truly wanted him to volunteer, but it seemed like nobody else would so he decided to help the lady out, thats what a gentleman would do.
"Okay what I want you to do for me is this, I want you to tell me a story, but not just any kind of story, I want this to be improvised, totally unique story individual to you."
"Errrr okay."
"Okay, quickly, you need a character, What is your characters name?"
"Errrrr....Renegade."
"Oh I like that and what does Renegade do for a living."
"He's a wrestler. Quite a good wrestler. He's a champion."
He wasn't sure if this was cheating or not. Some would call it drawing from life experiences.
"Is he happy?"
"Sometimes he is yes, but othertimes he can be unhappy."
"What makes him unhappy?"
"Having to team with people, his name is Renegade after all."
This wasn't so much of a story then, more like Renegade just telling the truth to a bunch of strangers who seemed to be buying it.
"Having to team, so we have another character here too, so who does Renegade have to team with?"
"Some guy called Drake Blake, Renegade doesn't like him."
"Why doesn't Renegade like him?"
He could of ranted for hours about this, but he only actually had about an hour of the lesson so he decided to keep it rather short.
"He's a little bit crazy, he talks to himself quite a lot. He's quite unbalanced. Renegade feels like he's not reliable as a tag team partner. Renegade feels he'll let the team down and cause the other team to win."
"Another team, so more new characters. What are these people called?"
"Jake Youngblood and Emily Koresh."
Now even Renegade admitted this was blatantly cheating, but he never was good at this improv gig and afterall all those great writers always say write what you know.
"You have a good way with names, anyone would think you know these people already."
"Yeah, imagine that."
"So these people, what does Renegade know about them?"
"Hardly anything. He doesn't assoicate with them. He doesn't like the fact that he doesn't know them."
"Does Renegade think he can win against them?"
"Yes he does, but he doesn't trust his partner. Renegade beat him last week, he's not sure how his partner would take the defeat, but as a champion, Renegade is meant to look good. Losing is bad for Renegade."
"It seems Renegade has problems to overcome, how is he planning to do this."
"By winning of course, its a simple as that, a win is a win. He'll make sure he wins one way or another."
"What if Renegade's partner does indeed let him down, what would Renegade do."
"Renegade wouldn't stand for it. He beat him up once, he'd do it again."
"What if Renegade loses. What happens then?"
"Renegade tries to quickly forget about it, but it's hard to forget, it plays on his mind for the next week. Puts Renegade into a bad mood."
"Well that's enough, that was really well done, I can't believe your boss said you weren't entertaining. What do you do if you don't mind my asking."
"Oh I'm a professional wrestler. My boss said I was boring so I checked this place out. I'm Renegade by the way, Hi."
And with that Renegade simply waved bye and left the room, so much for improv.
