Father Nathan couldn’t help but smirk as he reflected at how things had played out. A crucifixion match. Either Reya Serra had demanded it after Father Nathan crucified Paxar Vega at the last Ignite, or Jesse had ordered the match in hopes of giving the blood thirsty Philistines in Japan their pound of flesh. Either way, it didn’t matter. Nathan had gotten what he wanted and could move onto what came next.
Reya Serra had failed and her friend had paid the price for it. Such was the way of things. Now, if Reya Serra wished to continue being the martyr and savior, she would pay the price all would be saviors paid. Nathan had been reflecting on the trip over to Japan and he believed he had finally realized his fatal failing against Cera. He had hesitated a bit. He had yet to fully embrace things. That was gone now. Crucifying Paxar, listening to and promptly ignoring her pleas for mercy... that had been just what the doctor had ordered.
As he sat in his hotel room, overlooking the city of Tokyo, he heard a knock on the door. Turning to open it, he half expected to find an angry Dixie Clement standing there. He was due for a run in with the Texan sooner or later.. However, the visitor at the door, surprised even Father Nathan...
It was none other than Valora Salinas.
Stepping aside from the door, he let her in and closed the door, a smirk on his face. “Why, Sister Valora. This is a surprise. What brings you here today? I’m sure its not for confession.” Nathan said, looking over the newest member of UnStable. Valora, for her part, paced around the room and thought to herself before she sighed. “I saw Jade earlier. She seems to think I need to make a choice. Find my true self or some shit. I thought I’d drop by and see what you thought. I mean.. “ Valora sighs “I tried to be the heroine Nate. That shit got me nearly killed. So now... I’m me... and I’m still bein’ pushed to be the fuckin’ heroine. What the fuck?!”
Nathan leaned against the wall and listened. He knew most of Valora’s back story and had spent some time previously trying to help her. Now, of course, he saw she had better uses and decided to share what he had come to realize..
“Valora.. know what I came to realize? Society is bullshit. You see. You’re taught that to help people is good. Strong should defend the weak and all that. But look at you. You prove that wrong. You’ve had the deck stacked against you your entire life. You’ve stood alone, no help. Just you. Fighting the odds and its made you stronger. See... every time you help someone. You deny evolution the chance to weed out the weak. You deny them the struggle that will make them stronger. They’ll be grateful... at first. But after the gratefulness, comes the resentment. People secretly hate heroes. They hate needing to rely on others. The only thing people like more than a hero... is to see a hero fail. To see proof that a hero is human... just like them. That’s why they love you, Val. You’ve proven and prove every week that you’re human. You make the other would be heroes look human.”
Nathan smiled as he looked over the woman before him. It was funny. Just a couple months ago, he and Valora being allies would have been unthinkable. Now, here they were. Nathan continued making his point. “What do you want, Valora? I know Jade probably tried to get all Buddhist and insightful and what not. But its really very simple. What do you want?”
Valora wasted no time. “The World Title. THEN, a spot in the Hall of Fame. THEN I wanna be a fuckin’ legend.” Father Nathan smiled and nodded. “Then focus. You’re well on your way to those goals already. You’re the only person from UnStable in Terrordome. This match is your dream match. Unleash the violence and prove to everyone that you are the future of this company.”
Valora smirks. “And you? What do you want?” Nathan grins. “Well Reya Serra wants to imitate Christ. Apparently she believes Christ didn’t do a good enough job as savior and she needs to try again. What do I want? I wanna give her the chance to play Jesus. I wanna nail her ass to a fookin’ cross and hang her in the Tokyo Dome for all to see. But I’m a man of simple wants and needs.”
Valora grins again and nods. Part of her likely wanted Reya Serra herself. Father Nathan remembered all too well the fervor with which she went after religious types. It had marked several battles between him and her in the past. As Nathan watched Valora leave, he smirked to himself as he clenched his right hand into a fist and raised it, looking at the fist. “One Punch, Reya. Then you join your friend Paxar on the cross. Pray to God. See if he aids you. I’ll bet he doesn’t. Who will you blame when you fail, I wonder? Yourself? God? Your arrogant presumption at trying to act the role of Jesus? Who will be to blame when you hang from the cross?”
The Heart Punch. Nathan liked to call it the Left Hand of God. It was a move that Cera only barely managed to avoid it. Her Fraternal twin Reya... would not. Cera at least had at least a grasp on the truth. Relying on herself instead of some insipid Father Figure.
Well, if Reya wanted a Father to punish her... Father Nathan could fulfill that need.
