Valora stood in her apartment with Samantha and sighed, clenching her fist. “You know, I’ve killed people for less than this fucker has done. He just happens to be hiding in the bathroom in Kronin’s office? Who the fuck has a bathroom in their office? Now you’re telling me that he was at my doctor’s appointment and she’s teaming with him and I somehow managed to not notice him?”
Samantha nods. “It would seem so, yes. Apparently you’re opponent is James fucking Bond.. Good news is I found his contact in the NSA… I can eliminate him as a problem but it will require a price.”
Valora sighs. “Going back active with the CIA,”
Samantha nods. “If you do, I can immediately have his security clearance revoked for risking exposing the identity of a CIA operative.”
Valora nods. “And the NSA can and will respond by reviewing my file and possibly trying to issue a Burn Notice on me. The CIA and NSA do love their pissing contests and I have enough problems at the moment. How bad is my False Flag?”
Samantha sighs. “The FBI is aware someone is impersonating an agent. They know it’s in the Chicago area. The ID isn’t worthless yet with me having you listed as an undercover agent, but I’d suggest we not use it in any official capacity for a bit until the heat cools down a bit. Let them decide the report they got is wrong.. in the meantime, someone’s been tracking you. Couple of amatuer hackers trying to dig up information. I let them think they have something, then talked to a few friends of mine at NSA’s cybercrimes division. They’re be getting a visit from some very unhappy government agents.”
Valora shakes her head. “No. Let’s not make this official yet, I assume you have their IPs?” Samantha rolls her eyes. “Please.. I’ve been hacking since before the CIA recruited me.. you’re talking to the girl that shut NORAD down with a laptop to prove how vulnerable our government systems were to the right kind of attack, to the woman who owns the fucking supercomputer that the government is using to not only try to fix said problems but collect data and share it more efficiently with law enforcement. They’re good, but I nailed their actual ips.. then, because I knew you’d want it, I dug up info on them. They work for New Edge, both on Lights Out. Malloy and Ralphie. Interesting note on the latter, he seems to be a total fanboy of yours.”
Valora smirked. “That has potential. For now, it’s time to pay Kronin another visit and this time, he’s really not going to like it. We can meet later to talk again.. find out what the Agency would want me to do if I sign back up,,, I might not have much choice…”
Valora sighed as she turned to the window. It had been a long time since she faced off against someone seemingly as skilled as she was in the world of covert ops. Valora had many advantages.. she had been a freelance assassin, she had been a government spy/assassin. She was now trying to survive as a wrestler. Ryan Elias clearly had some of the same experiences as she did. That engendered both a certain degree of professional respect from her, and a increased her desire to beat him to a bloody pulp as in her world, much like wrestling, there was always jockeying for position to be done. Everyone trying to be the best. Currently, only one person in the world could legitimately claim to be better than Valora, the woman who had trained her in the CIA, who had since disappeared off the face of the earth and was now causing Rob Riot troubles, which had led to him recruiting Valora which had then resulted in their current relationship, which had resulted in Valora using her unique skillset, which had led now to the current standoff of each trying to learn about the other. While Valora would only admit one person as her better, and that by being forced, she was rapidly being forced to admit Elias might be near her level.
After parting ways with Samantha for the time being, Valora made her way over to New Edge Corporate HQ, once more walking into Kronin’s office and pointing to the door to his bathroom. “First things first, open the door and then tell me why you have a fuckin’ bathroom in your office, you elitist prick.”
Kronin smirks and stands up slowly making his way over to the door and opening it to reveal the room is empty, Valora verifies this by walking in and checking it out for herself, making sure there are no other potential hiding spots in the bathroom or the office before turning to Kronin. “Bugs?” Kronin shrugs and shakes his head. “Paranoid much?”
Valora shrugs. “You’re obviously giving your buddy an edge in our match, or maybe it’s a coincidence he was here in the bathroom listening to our first meeting or that he happened to know which doctor you sent me to?”
Kronin sighs. “Valora. Believe it or not, and you should believe it, because I’ve only spent my entire career proving it, I’m here to do what’s best for whatever company I’m in. In this case, that would be New Edge. You’re a bona fide superstar, a legend, probably one of the best wrestlers to ever step into a ring. Explain to me how screwing you over helps me or the company in the slightest? By the way, I also got on Ryan’s case about Rob Riot and he assures me that is done now. If Ryan was less than honest about that, he’ll pay for it, but like him or not, he’s a soldier and we have a certain code. As for Ryan being here when you showed up, I can’t predict what you’ll do, for instance, I couldn’t predict you’d risk your World Title shot and your job just to put 5 security guards in the hospital so you can take a shot at a rookie. I also hinted that you were interrupting something. Not my fault you missed the warning.”
Valora sighs and shakes her head. “You avoided my point about the doctor and you consider ‘I need a secretary’ as a warning I was interrupting something? Wow. That’s a stretch even for you. As for your ‘code’ Ryan has done the same kind of work I did, both freelance and on behalf of the U.S. government. I can recognize one of my own and he’s cut from that cloth and in that world, there’s only a few codes. Once you take a job, you do the job, no matter what. And you win. The End justifies the Means. As for the security guards? Not my fault you decided to protect the precious little rookie.”
Kronin leans back in his seat and listens to Valora as she goes on and nods. “I didn’t give Ryan any information about sending you for a psych eval. However, I’m sure he overheard me tell you as much while you were here last time. Given that we don’t have too many doctors on staff, it’s not the hardest thing in the world to find out who you went to. Hell, for all I know, he might have done something you would do and asked someone in NEW Corporate if he could see the doctor we use for psychology.”
Valora nods. “I thought about that, but you never ordered me to go to one of those doctors so I chose one not affiliated with New Edge specifically to avoid these kinds of Shenanigans. So once more, how did he find out?”
Kronin shrugs. “Seems like that’s your area to figure out. Maybe he followed you. Maybe he’s running recon on you. I honestly don’t know how he found out.which doctor you chose to see. I’d suggest you filter out all other distractions and focus on Ryan Elias. He’s a dangerous foe after all and don’t forget the winner of this match moves on to Terrordome. There is a lot riding on this match, after all…”
Valora nodded and headed out. She had some plans to make, a fight to prepare for. And some business to take care of before anything else became a possibility.
